Codemasters reveals F1 game details

Recommended Posts

Now that is some news, the last time I played a F1 simulator on PC was what, Grand Prix 4 I guess.

Same here - I loved, loved, loved GP4 (& 3) and I've been looking forward to a new F1 game for a while, here's hoping this'll be good, and more importantly, that it'll play on a NetTop Computer :)

Yes it much more boring now Ferrari are getting their own way less and less

2007 - was extremely close and tightly fought till the end 1 point decided it

2008 - was extremely close and tightly fought till the end 1 point decided it

2009 - looking to be a very interesting year bringing closer competition across teams

Oh yes they are definitely the 3 seasons where F1 has felt dead??? When did you even last watch formula one? The early races this decade were the bore or racing decided mid season. And then there's the controversy and bore of Schumacher leading into final races and "accidentally colliding" when someone only 1 point behind is about to pass and the handed wins early in the season.

Let me guess you are a Ferrari supporter?

The Reason F1 is dead is because it's no longer F1. F1 is supposed to be the Ultimate racing, The fastest and best cars man can make and race, with drivers willing to risk their lives to take first or be chickens and stay back in the field.

With the rules and limits on F1 now, you may as well watch F3000 or Cart racing. If you want a standardized sport where everyone is equal and race practically the same car, then F1 is not the sport you're looking for, F1 is supposed to be the cutting edge. There's no cutting edge anymore. With the new rules, we'll see very little new innovations from F1. Whereas F1 used to be THE place to find new developments for the auto industry. Now the only place we'll see innovations from is GT which is a lot more interesting than F1 anyway(at least now, and as long as you ignore the prototype cars).

And while I'm a Ferrari supporter I'm not hardcore, generally I think Ferrari are one of the teams who deserve to win since they actually make their own stuff and use their own parts, and they do(well did) a lot of innovations. Them and McLaren where pretty much the only ones technically at the top. The new rules are made simply because the other teams suck to much to keep up.

on the other Hand I also like the Toyota and Red Bull teams. I've been cheering for Toyota ever since they joined even when they where constantly last.

----

on a More on topic note, I don't think old F1 made a very good game to start But neither do I think Codemasters are the ones to choose if you want to make a sim racing game, certainly not a high end racer in the F1 series. Of course the only two good alternatives, are either Microsoft or Sony exclusive studios. Well there are the GTR devs I suppose...

Sorry straying off topic still, but the racing you describe: risking lives and fastest/"best" (presumably referring solely to speed round a track?) died maybe 50 years ago and was never really the spirit of formula 1, focusing on engine development is not revolutionary.

The word formula in f1 is specifically about complying with rules and regulations. F1 also currently is far more cutting edge than ever, building better cars is not about just shoving in bigger more poweful engines. Its also about brakes/aero/tyres/safety etc. development and engine development (not just bigger and therefore faster).

All teams must develop certain parts on F1 cars - engines are not one of those parts clearly as you can purchase them from other teams, this is primarily because engine developments is one of the things we really do not need to continually develop these days, whereas brakes/aero/tyres/safety etc. etc. are.

GT is not revolutionary as you suggest - rather just implementing auto developments before they become economically viable - as cars must be road legal GT relies on things that have been tested hugely and thoroughly. GT is more in-line with engine development - which some seem to believe is the sole making of the best cars, I myself do not, and formula one is also not solely focused with such things.

If you want a standardized sport where everyone is equal and race practically the same car, then F1 is not the sport you're looking for

If you actually look at the cars and take a brief moment to explore the differences between different car designs you will soon understand they are radically different. Yes they all have 4 wheels, front wings and spoilers (but don't most cars in some form) - even if you just look at the nose on all f1 cars they alter dramatically - and that's just looking at them and visible aero packaging. If you then understand differences in brake ducting, callipers, suspension detailing just to name a few things it becomes a completely different car. GT on the other hand i doubt explore any of these things significantly.

If you prefer GT racing over F1 maybe its because you do not like the spirit of F1 as it is completely different to GT (its not trying to be the same just bigger and faster) , rather that saying the sport is wrong maybe take a moment to think what its really about and why restrictions are in place where they are?

EDIT:

I think its fantastic "the manufacturers" are getting a run for their money, teams with fractions of the budgets of the big teams and doing a better job than what Ferrari and McLaren can do with huge budgets is good for the sport. Effectiveness of budget is important in the development and if you can do better with less then why not. Also the engines supplied by manufactures are generally "lesser" engines and less refined. Maybe Ferrari and McLaren need to take a step back and thing maybe we don't just throw money at something to make it work. But think all rounded about development - something which Red Bull have done with their unique front suspension design changing the car completely: meaning they won a race without a "magic diffuser design" and they don't plan on adding one any time soon - whereas some teams think is the only way to get a car to go round a circuit well. Red Bull however are one of the most competitive teams at the moment.

F1 engine recording

We've now had a couple of successful engine recording sessions with a number of F1 teams, so I thought I'd release a brief recording from one of those sessions.

Sorry about the old Commodore Amiga backing music I wrote, but I had to add something to make the recording unusable for anyone else......

http://www.madfiddler.co.uk/temp/F1_2009_V8_Engine_01.mp3

And no, please don't ask me which team/manufacturer this is from.... still... it's a nice sound isn't it (even if it isn't a V10!)

Enjoy,

this is a recording of an F1 engine NOT the game playing back the recording...

:D

wow

Would rather have seen a new TOCA or something. I always found F1 games to be too unforgiving. In TOCA you could mess up badly and go in the pits and be at the back of the grid, but you could make it up again. With F1 games if you had a few minor incidents you were ****ed.

[Podcast]Codemsters Talk about F1 Games @ Gamespot

http://uk.gamespot.com/pages/features/ukpo...topslot;thumb;1

They mention the technical limitations of the Wii PSP, how Codemasters and Sumo Digital work well together, SD is also working on the Wii and PSP versions of DIRT 2. The Wii version of F1 2009 will have a variety of ways to race, from controller to racing wheel (they mentioned 'Mario Kart style'). They also talked about how the PC/PS3/360 versions deserve the extra year of development time to really make them shine/stand out. last, but not least, they said there is a good amount of effort going into the front-end/interface/menu system, just like previous CM games.

    • Microsoft resumes forced Copilot app installation on some Windows PCs by Usama Jawad Late last year, Microsoft planned to begin the automatic installation of the Microsoft 365 Copilot app on certain Windows PCs. However, in March 2026, it disabled this process due to a technical issue and informed customers that it would let them know when it would resume. It seems like that was only a temporary respite, as the Redmond tech giant has started the forced installation of the app on eligible devices. In an update on its Message Center for IT admins, Microsoft has informed customers that it is resuming the automatic installation of the Microsoft 365 Copilot on commercial Windows PCs that have Microsoft 365 apps already installed. What this means is that if you have Microsoft Office apps like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and more installed on your Windows PC through a Microsoft 365 license, you'll likely see the Microsoft 365 Copilot app pop up in your Installed Apps section soon, too. Fortunately, IT admins do have some control over this rollout. If they choose to opt out, devices in their tenant won't automatically get the dreaded Copilot app. However, phased rollout via feature flags has already begun and is expected to be completed by the end of June: Feature Flag1: started Jun 4, expected to finish June 10 Feature Flag2: expected to start on June 11, expected to finish on June 17 MSGraph schema rollout: expected to start on June 18, expected to finish on June 24 Feature Flag3: expected to start on June 25, expected to complete by July 1st Microsoft hasn't detailed what the process is to toggle the feature flags in its Message Center, and its public support page does not seem to mention it yet either. The Redmond tech giant has encouraged IT admins to let users know beforehand so they aren't caught by surprise to see a new app seemingly installed without manual interaction or their consent. Users who already have the app installed or are based in the European Economic Area (EEA) are unaffected by this move, which Microsoft has understandably flagged as a "major change".
