I have a problem: GTA VC restarts my PC on random locations, while I'm driving... I have XP no sp1, G-FX 5200

The solutions I've seen to this of varying success include:

* Updating graphics drivers to latest stable version

* Changing the audio mode in GTA:VC's options menu, the hardware acceleration mode tends to cause a few crashing issues

When I had the problem (I'd get in cars and the game would stall but sound would carry on playing) I simply upgraded to the latest Catalyst drivers which were released shortly after GTA:VC, and the problem disappeared. You might notice it on the opening cutscene of the game, it gets to a scene where a group of SWAT people are about to swarm on the drug deal, then it just... freezes. With the latest Catalyst drivers this doesn't happen, so try upgrading to the latest Detonator drivers for your card?

Washington state bans sale of violent games to minors

Gary Locke, governor of the state of Washington in the USA, has signed into law a bill banning the sale of certain violent videogames to minors - including Enter the Matrix and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, both of which depict violence against law enforcement officials.

According to US law, a minor is anyone under the age of 17, so this isn't even on the same level as applying an 18 certificate to a videogame here in the UK (although admittedly a lot of UK retailers aren't exactly stringent in their enforcement of the age certificates on games).

However, the Interactive Digital Software Association has thrown all its toys out of the pram over this issue, with president Doug Lowenstein slamming the bill as "patently unconstitutional" and the organisation taking the state to court over the bill.

"We're confident that our position will be affirmed in court," according to Lowenstein, who goes on to criticise the state for diverting "critical funds" to defend the bill at a time when the state apparently faces a "massive budget deficit."

Obviously Lowenstein has the moral high ground here - after all, he's only using IDSA funds to defend the right of publishers to sell incredibly violent and mature content to children, which is clearly a far more worthwhile endeavour than a state attempting to protect kids from this kind of content without impairing the ability of adults to enjoy it.

With the industry apparently prepared to go to court in order to defend this "right", is it any wonder that politicians and many parents regard videogames as such a negative influence on society?

yeah this happened like last week didnt it? soooo lame but IMO itll get overturned soon enough.

I might not be understanding the full story, but from what I can see (a brief glance) they're legally stopping miners buying the game. Well they work their asses off getting coal from underground, getting their faces dirty, carrying pick axes around... and that's how they repay them?

Oh... minors. Darn.

Well, yeah, I agree, minors shouldn't be allowed to play the game, let alone buy it. If the game is rated so that only those aged 17 or above should play it, then that should be the case.

I think its stupid Its a game christs sake, oh no ive shot a copper in the face with a sub machine gun ooooh loads of blood thats gonna make me go into the high street and start gunning ppl down

It is aaahhh (sarcasm)

What thick person thought of this bill, Fair enough if it was a video cus your seeing REAL life ppl getting "shot". But a game Do ppl in real life have boxy type heads, can a real person carry about 7 different guns, grandes rocket launchers etc with a full load out of ammo. No youd get an hernia if ya tried

This is whats wrong witht he world were going crazy over stuff that aint that important. Lets spends millions on banning a 17 year old from buying a "violent game" Oh theres ppl starving out here who cant even afford a bar of soap Oh well they can hang on cus our situation is Far more serious.

Those ppl make me sick.

BTW im 21 so can buy it and ai live in the UK anyway so that doesnt affect me cus i dont wanna buy it cus id never play on it. Im too busy playing on Earth and Beyond what a quality game.

PS. if you buy and play it Stick me down as your referral. EA account name: montagano bay

what they're doing is making it illegal to sell an M rated game to anyone 17 or younger. Its like all other age regulated things, you can get away w/ it if you ask the right employee but if they're caught they get a $500 fine.

I have this wierd bug that whenever I try to get the payout from Sunshine Autos the game crashes. The payout is at the full $9,000 and it's the only payout that crashes... It's no big deal, cause of the other properties, but it's annoying when I accidentaly hit it going into the dealership.

Anyone else seen or heard anything like it?

Oh, and BTW, the game ROCKS! :D

you also have to finish the side missions to complete the game... that means you have to complete all the unique jumps, collect all 100 hidden packages, go up to level 12 of the vigilante, paramedic, and firefighter missions and up to level 10 of the pizza delivery mission.... you also have to do a few more things but i can't remember off the top of my head....

jsut search on google for a gta vice city 100% completion guide

    • Google reportedly set to lose two key Gemini and DeepMind researchers to Anthropic by Karthik Mudaliar Google is reportedly preparing to lose two more prominent artificial intelligence researchers, with Gemini contributors Jonas Adler and Alexander Pritzel planning to join rival AI developer Anthropic. According to a report from Bloomberg, both researchers are viewed internally as important contributors to Google’s flagship Gemini model family. Adler worked on Google’s AI coding efforts, while Pritzel was involved in the process used to train AI systems. Neither company has publicly confirmed the moves. The report also does not say when the researchers will formally leave Google or what positions they will hold at Anthropic. Training a large AI model requires decisions covering its architecture, data preparation, distributed computing infrastructure, and post-training methods that shape how the finished system behaves. Researchers with experience operating at the scale of Gemini are consequently difficult to replace quickly. Both Adler and Pritzel have previously contributed to Google DeepMind’s scientific research as well. They are listed among the authors of the company’s work on expanding AlphaFold protein-structure predictions across entire proteomes, alongside AlphaFold researchers including John Jumper. The reported departures arrive shortly after another important change within Google’s Gemini organization. Gemini co-lead Noam Shazeer is leaving Google for OpenAI, after returning to the search company in 2024 through its deal with Character.AI. Shazeer is particularly well known as one of the authors of the Transformer paper, whose architecture became the foundation for most modern large language models. Anthropic, meanwhile, has been recruiting recognizable figures from other leading laboratories. OpenAI co-founder and former Tesla AI director Andrej Karpathy joined Anthropic’s pre-training team in May. His move, followed by the reported recruitment of several Google researchers, suggests Anthropic is strengthening the research teams responsible for the core capabilities of future Claude models rather than concentrating solely on product and enterprise sales. The competition is complicated by the companies’ extensive commercial relationships. Anthropic competes directly with Google’s Gemini models, but it also relies on Google as an infrastructure partner. In April, Anthropic announced an expanded agreement with Google and Broadcom covering multiple gigawatts of next-generation Tensor Processing Unit capacity. • Google adds built-in computer control to Gemini 3.5 flash by Karthik Mudaliar Google has added Computer Use as a built-in tool in Gemini 3.5 Flash, giving developers a single model that can reason about a task and operate graphical interfaces across browsers, mobile devices, and desktop environments. The feature is available through the Gemini API and Google’s Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform, although it remains a preview feature for now. Computer Use enables an AI agent to examine screenshots and return actions such as mouse clicks, scrolling, and keyboard input. A developer’s application must execute those actions, capture the resulting screen, and send it back to Gemini, creating a continuous loop until the task is completed. Google says the integration can be used for activities including repetitive form filling, application testing, research across multiple websites, and longer enterprise workflows. Gemini 3.5 Flash can work with browser, mobile, and desktop environments, whereas Google’s earlier standalone Computer Use model was primarily positioned around browser interaction. The main change is consolidation. Computer control was previously offered through the separate Gemini 2.5 Computer Use preview model. As Neowin reported when that model was introduced, it was designed to interpret a visual interface and generate actions without requiring a website-specific API. Google later brought Computer Use to preview versions of Gemini 3 Pro and Gemini 3 Flash in January 2026. The latest release now incorporates the tool into the stable Gemini 3.5 Flash model rather than requiring developers to select a specialized model solely for interface automation. Gemini 3.5 Flash itself was announced in May as Google’s latest fast model for coding and multi-step agent workflows. It supports a one-million-token input context window and up to 65,000 output tokens, along with adjustable thinking levels that let developers trade additional reasoning for lower latency and cost. Google also added that Gemini 3.5 Flash received targeted adversarial training for computer-use scenarios. The company is also offering safeguards that can require user confirmation before sensitive or irreversible actions and automatically stop a workflow when suspected prompt injection is detected. Its developer documentation describes configurable protections for areas such as financial transactions and changes to sensitive records. Google isn't the first to bring Computer Use to its platform. Anthropic has made computer control available through Claude, while OpenAI has continued improving computer-use performance in its recent models. Microsoft has also applied the concept to business workflows, including a Computer Use capability for the Researcher agent in Microsoft 365 Copilot.
