Indeed. A pre-order perk being early access to a DEMO just seems odd to me. I'm not sure why companies or customers like it. But I digress that I don't get a lot of things people do.

Agreed, It also makes zero sense to me is I was always under the impression a demo is to help try and convince people to actually buy the game. We live in different times I suppose.

You can still play the demo later on in November apparently. Still at least Valve do decent pre order bonuses, like, discounts on the price. Rather than other publishers methods of locking content ON THE ****ING DISC and making you pay for it if you bought it late or second hand.

Hi Forza. Ignorant console owners to thank for that I guess.

Hype sells games a lot better than Demos. Players play a demo, if they don't like it they wont get it, if they did like it there is the possibility that they play the Demo so much that they tire of the gameplay and decide not to buy the game.

This is why a lot of developers have decided not to do Demos until the game has actually launched, in the case of valve they are willing to give it to people who already ordered it, that way they wont lose any sales and anyone who was on the fence might pre-order just to get early access. They are very clever.

Makes me think about Gamestop's crappy pre-order unlock codes for weapons, cars, etc...

Vice, can people cancle a pre-order on steam (before release date) if they dont like the pre-order demo?

Has anyone played the 360 demo yet? I believe codes are been sent out to people who pre ordered, or you can download and burn it to a DVD-R.

The demo lets you play locally with bots or co-op on Xbox Live.

I love the melee weapons, I don?t think the chainsaw is in the demo though!:shiftyninja:a:

When does the demo hit on the PC?

I just pre ordered it today, figured it was better to spend $45 on it and also the option of Mods just once again makes the PC version the better deal, just as I felt with L4D. I will rent it for the 360 to play with my friends who also have it, but definitely feel this is a better game on the PC. But I have the demo on PC preloaded already, so just wondering when I can check it out.

Valve seriously needs to fire the retards in charge of coordinating releases. This crap happens all the time whether its demos or final games. the set reckless release dates and try and do all the work to get it out on day of release.

They should have it all completely setup days before release and than people would praise them for releasing on time early rather than this outrage everytime their pre-orders are inevitably delayed for hours/days on steam.

SUPPOSED to be 8pm gmt today but it keeps getting delayed

Cool thanks. Will see what happens but if it comes out at that time then I will be checking it out tomorrow then. Oh well. Thanks again.

I have just accepted the fact I will have to check out the PC demo tomorrow.

Yeah, I'm not pre-ordering from them again.

Well the one main thing with the pre-order, and the reason I did it, was 10% off is 10% off, that is the way I viewed it. And no tax is a good thing as well.

I don't know what happened, I was really hyped about it, right until they made it available for purchase, then I just thought "Ehh, I can wait a while".

Apparently the Australian version sucks though, there's no gore and the bodies instantly get removed (Which is strange really, I haven't seen other FPS games get those kinds of restrictions)

i guess thats one of the big reasons theres a modding scene for l4d ... well in this case if there wasnt such a big reason, there is now

Ouch! That sucks for Aussie gamers. Anyway, I went ahead and pre-ordered it. :ermm: The new Left 4 Dead campaign (Crash Course) brought back some good memories. Now, I'm going to try my best to convince my friends to buy it too.

Looks like the PC demo is available now. I see a couple of my friends playing "Left 4 Dead 2 Demo".

Thanks for the heads up. I am calling it a night soon and already had myself convinced I would not be playing it tonight, I will check it out tomorrow.

Australians are really missing out, the new gore engine is amazing.

Here is a comparsion version for you all to see if you wish to see how crappy the Australian copy is...

deeeefinitely will be trying to get an import/workaround, it's just not even entertaining knowing what i'd be missing out on

(i also love in the clip they just stop comparing and just play the uncensored copy cause it's actually interesting)

    • Frankly, I blame whoever is writing such articles. "A big improvement/update and/or new feature is now available to everyone! Also, use this unofficial tweak tool to enable it because it actually isn't available to you yet officially and might not in fact even be entirely ready or whatever, hence why it is perhaps not enabled for you*. But it's great and you should enable it!" I mean there's nothing wrong with sharing info about some feature you might need to enable via unofficial means, of course. It's just that these articles tend to essentially end up being two news pieces in one, and one of them tends to be a bit misleading. (*Yes, yes, the "it's a controlled rollout!" thing. Not a fan of that one either. The argument, not the actual rollout.)
    • Thank you. Will do. I read in the release notes that editor config might be at play here.
    • Actually, I think even Microsoft doesn't know how to control it
    • OpenAI is making Codex more useful in Chrome and the cloud by Pradeep Viswanathan OpenAI's Codex now has more than 5 million users, up nearly 4x from earlier this year. To further accelerate Codex's growth among developers, OpenAI today announced that it has agreed to acquire Ona, a company that builds secure cloud execution and orchestration technology for developers. Ona will enable developers to run Codex with persistent and controlled cloud infrastructure for long-running agentic workflows. Right now, most Codex execution happens locally on developers' laptops and PCs, and the agents work continuously for hours. Through Ona, OpenAI aims to make Codex agents keep working for days without being tied to a user’s local machine or an active session. This will be an important capability for enterprises that want to deploy AI agents in production while maintaining control over infrastructure, data, security boundaries, credential scope, logging, and review workflows. Like any acquisition, the deal is still subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals. Until the deal closes, OpenAI and Ona will continue to operate as separate companies. After closing, Ona’s team will join the Codex team to improve developer workflows. Alongside the Ona acquisition announcement, OpenAI today introduced a few Codex updates. Developers can now save Codex rate limit resets and use them later instead of losing them when they are not needed immediately. OpenAI is also adding a referral option where users can invite a friend to Codex and get a saved rate limit reset. OpenAI today also announced a developer mode for browser use in Chrome and the Codex in-app browser. With this mode, Codex can use the Chrome DevTools Protocol to debug web apps, inspect pages, and work more directly with browser-based development workflows. Developers can use this when they want Codex to profile JavaScript, inspect console output and network traffic, examine web page states including the DOM and applied styles, and more.
