think it starts with 9 points deduction but then if they are wound up (which I highly doubt will happen) they will just disapear from the EPL I suppose...never seen it happen.

im not too sure, i know they dropped out of the Champo places, then they went into administration through bankrupty through not getting the champo money

which means they were given a -10 start to the next season

this coupled with selling all their (good) players led to them getting relegated?

correct me if im wrong as this is all info that ive picked up since then

After a financial implosion and mass sale of players, Leeds were relegated from the Premier League and also relegated from The Championship three years later.

The club steered its way through administration, albeit receiving a 25 point deduction in the process. Now, the club are financially stable and are looking to win promotion from League One at the third time of asking.

Portsmouth FC's 'shock' at HMRC wind-up petition

Portsmouth Football Club has said it is "shocked and surprised" by the winding-up petition by HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) against the club.

HMRC applied for the petition on 23 December, but a full court hearing will not take place until February.

If the club is unable to strengthen its financial position by then, it could go into administration.

Portsmouth said it disputed the amount of money owed and expected HMRC "to withdraw their demands forthwith".

If it does not, the club said it anticipates "a hearing being held in early January 2010 during which we will request that the High Court order HMRC to withdraw their demands."

It added the VAT, PAYE and National Insurance contributions owed to HMRC had been paid, were about to paid, or were being disputed.

The Premier League said it was monitoring the situation at Portsmouth closely and hoped the situation could be resolved without the two parties going to court.

Not our toughest game of the season, I don't know what Wigan expected by playing like that. They made us so easy for us to score. Our very good start maybe played a part but still, no reaction whatsoever from the players. Anyway, we see some good football tonight. Valencia and Rafael were terrific, Rooney and Fletcher as usual, brilliant.

Bolton set for bitter fight with Burnley over Owen Coyle (Mirror)

Bolton Wanderers want old boy Owen Coyle to be their next boss - but face a bitter fight with Burnley to take their manager.

Chairman Phil Gartside and owner Eddie Davies have gone through the candidates and realised rising star Coyle ticks all of the boxes for them after axeing Gary Megson.

Coyle is still loved by the Bolton fans who turned on Megson - they even serenaded him when the sides met last week - and his exciting style is also in contrast to what Wanderers have played in recent years.

The former Bolton striker has not shut the door on the move as he tries to focus on the FA Cup tie with MK Dons today, but growing whispers and a betting frenzy yesterday revealed the truth.

Burnley have yet to be approached by Bolton but they will fight tooth and nail to keep Coyle from their neighbours, who are also crucially rivals in the fight for Premier League safety.

Coyle is under contract at Turf Moor and has a 'transfer fee' in his deal. He is also the best-paid boss in their history, so Bolton will have to dig deep to make the deal happen.

However Gartside, who paid Megson a small fortune, and Isle of Man-based Davies have pumped in cash before. Wanderers have a payroll that is THREE times as big as Burnley's.

Coyle is in the dark about a move until Bolton come in officially, but he could be tempted as the frustration of keeping Burnley going on a shoestring has come into focus with the opening of the transfer window.

The enthusiastic young boss has admitted he is looking at loans and frees - with even Championship players on more money than his amazing gang of players whose top earners are on ?12,000-a-week.

Coyle is ultra-confident he will win the relegation fight at Burnley where their attacking style has won them many admirers. But the scope for future development is greater down the road at the Reebok.

Burnley money man Brendan Flood, who recruited Coyle from St.Johnstone and dubbed him the 'new Bill Shankly' will hope the emotional ties between the pair will make him stay.

But the tug-of-war is a hard one when Bolton - now an established Premier League club - must be fancied to pull off the coup and have Coyle in charge soon.

Bolton are under the caretaker management of Steve Wigley and play Lincoln in the FA Cup today before facing Arsenal on Wednesday and then a crunch trip to Sunderland.

Gartside wants a new manager this week and if Coyle is not landed he could turn to out-of-work Alan Curbishley who is available and a proved relegation fighter.

Gartside has said he wants a British manager with Premier League experience, so other outsiders include Peter Reid and Paul Jewell.
