[Official] Batman: Arkham Asylum

I got another question.

How do you take down the titan infected guys without a baterang? It is a trophy. :p

Not sure if this is a spoiler, but i'll do it anyway. If you have the explosive spray, just lay one on the ground and line yourself up so that he runs straight into and either detonate manually, or if you have the proximity detonation it will blow up automatically. When he's stunned, lay into him with the fists.

So I finally got a chance to play the game for more than one hour today, my prior two attempts were both under an hour, so I was not really to get involved with the game and as a result I was still up in the air about it. Now that I have played a fair amount, all I can pretty much say is it is a really good, solid game.

The whole game world itself is really thought and flushed out well. From the Riddler's Challenges, to just all the attention to little details, it is all done really well.

The visual are fantastic. They may not be the best out there technically, but the overall style is absolutely fantastic. As funny as this sounds adding something like Detective mode actually does not do the game any justice, as you wind up using it so frequently you really do not get a chance to appreciate the non detective mode visuals, and they are done really well. I think they really did a great job of making a comic book look without looking like a comic book. The game itself has a great color pallete, and again the stylization is just reallly well done. Totally helps to get immersed into the world itself.

I love the puzzles themselves. Some of them are pretty damn simple, but some of them do make you stop and think for at least a bit...

I would say the only shortcoming of the game is the combat. I just am not all that into it. While it has some depth, truth is it really is not all that deep at all.

The one and only thing I feel is a bit weak is I wish you had a little more control when you are either running or gliding. It seems like when you do one of those, the controls just get a little stiff. That is really just me nitpicking and pointing out what I feel would make this game truly overall perfect.

Finally, I love me some good creepy stuff, and so far the first encounter with Scarecrow is up there with some of the better creepy moments in gaming I have experienced. It was not like jump out of your chair creepy, but it just had a real sinister creepy vibe, especially with the audio they created.

So yeah, I can pretty much concur with all the major review sites out there, best comic book based video game to date. By far actually.

Looking forward to getting further along, but I can say right now I will NEVER come close to 100% complete, just way to much to explore and since these days my time is limited I just want to beat games.

Last scarecrow sequence

I love it when video games break the fourth wall. This is definitely up there in one of my favorite video game moments, similar to psycho mantis. I really thought my xbox was going to Red Ring. I was screaming WTF!?!?!? Then the cut scene entered and I really thought I did something wrong because it was game over. This part was so creative."

Aaaaagh. I didn't intend to get this originally, but I traded in a load of games the other week and thought I might as well get it. I loved it. Generally speaking I'm not a fan of comic book/superhero stuff, so I was apprehensive going into it. However, you don't need me to tell you how stunning this game is.

Anyway, I was going along through the game at my own steady pace, got up to the (first?) part where you enter a room where a load of gargoyles are booby-trapped with bombs.. Got bored, then left it for a few days.

I went back to have another bash the other day, only to find that my save is corrupted. I now have to start all over to get near that. Which I cannot be bothered to do. It looks like this is a pretty common problem after doing a quick google, yet I haven't spotted any mention of it here. Pretty annoying, but I'm just going to let it gather dust until Fifa10 comes out then I'm trading it in...

when I first read your post I was thinking to myself...this is probably part of the game, and the scarecrow is just messing with you LOL

what does it actually say when you try to load it?

Too bad I played the game on normal, should have played it on hard... it was far too easy :(

Great game anyway, the only thing I missed is more complicated puzzles. There were all about finding hidden stuff, it would have been cool if there were some actual puzzles rather that just riddles pointing to some item or place. Or some chained puzzles where solving one would give you hints about the next one, maybe using also hints from audio records or bio data from characters  dunno, something more complex.

I'm not that much into hack & slash/combo games to begin with, so I never really memorized any of the combos, even if I unlocked all of them. I just find myself mashing the X button during every fight and hit Y every once in a while when it prompted me to counter

Well there is not even much to memorize, after 8 hits A+X throws and if you get the other upgrade B+Y does an unblockable counter move. Really is not deep, so yeah, I am just smashing away on X like a mad man and pressing Y when I see the lines above heads, that is still my one and only biggest beef with it. Honestly a game like God Of War's combat is much, much deeper, and I would have loved it if they just copied it.

So if anyone who has been holding out for the PC version, and you also may happen to need a new video card, EVGA has a deal right now if you buy one of their GeForce video cards from certain etailers you get a copy of Batman on the PC for free. More info here for anyone who might need a new video card and wants Batman for the PC.

My ONLY gripe with this game is how restricted batman seems to be on using his grappling hook. It's like only if the spot is a gargoyle or meets certain conditions. I just feel like I can't be batman if I can't grapple to almost any ledge :/

ok some one help me how do i get in to the crocs room ?

im @ the start that has the 1 sniper on the ledge with about 5 or 6 pods ...... how do i get the sniper and get in to the building lol

Try to sneak on to one of the watch towers directly across from the building. Use the zip line to go across to the sniper's balcony and quickly beat down the sniper. You might even want to batarang the sniper before you zip across if you're afraid he's gonna shoot you.

Yeah I was just telling Massiveterra the other day how I keep forgetting about the line zippy thing, and this is a perfect example. I was lost for a good 10-15 minutes then it just dawned on me.

Platform Exclusive

(ATTN: As confirmed by Sefton Hill of Rocksteady, the Joker will only be playable on the PS3 and will not be playable on the 360 at anytime in the future. It is a permanent PS3-only exclusive. This is due to an exclusive deal that Sony has for the video game.)

    • There is a default resolution setting in Settings > Display that can be changed with a click. You can also change the settings on a per-game basis. No CLI needed. Also, Steam has countless games that are not "[perpetual] alpha/beta games", so no need for the straw man. Plus you can use other stores as well. And console games (e.g. PS5) cost a fortune, which itself more than negates the price subsidy on the system, unless you plan on exclusively playing 1 or 2 games. It's true that you shouldn't buy a system that doesn't support the game(s) you want to play, but I think that's kinda obvious, and applies to every console as well as PC. I don't game in the living room and have no need of a Steam Machine, but there is a clear market segment that would find it useful.

RSS Guard 5.2.0 changelog: Added: Feed auto-fetch can now also be delayed while Feral GameMode is active on Linux and startup auto-fetch is skipped when GameMode is already active. (#2265) WebEngine builds can now use RSS Guard generated proxy auto-config (PAC) rules so article/web browsing follows per-account and per-feed proxy settings more closely. (#2273) Generated PAC rules now also cover related subdomains and use Public Suffix List data, so feeds such as feeds.bbc.co.uk can also proxy resources from images.bbc.co.uk. (#2273) Standard feeds can now define extra proxy domains, useful when article images, stylesheets or other page resources are loaded from a CDN or another domain that should use the same feed proxy. (#2273) RSS Guard now asks for proxy credentials when a WebEngine page needs proxy authentication and can fill credentials from the current feed proxy when available. (#2273) Network settings again include an option to ignore all cookies, which clears stored cookies and prevents new cookies from being accepted. Standard RSS/ATOM feeds can now individually ignore cookies while downloading feed data. Stored cookies can now be deleted from the Tools menu. Custom skin colors can now override the feed list article count color separately from feed titles, including a separate highlighted color. (#2275) Settings dialog can now search across available settings and highlight matching controls. (#1754) Standard RSS/ATOM feeds can now optionally be reported as broken when they are valid but contain no articles. (#2039) Standard RSS/ATOM feeds can now override the application-wide feed connection timeout per feed. (#1023) Tray icon can now use a custom background color and unread-count text color, with an option to reuse the generated icon as the application icon. (#1973) Support for more benevolent parsing of Gemlog entries (#2295). Article list can now show when an article was received by RSS Guard. (#947) Feed deep discovery now actually scrapes all links found in the website and checks if they are feeds or not. This greatly enhances usability of the deep discovery mode and discovers many more feeds than before. (#2306) Search boxes now show a small dot when the feed or article list is hiding some items because of active filtering. (#873) Articles now have a shortcut-assignable action to open the homepage of the feed they belong to. (#2060) Fixed: Parallel feed updates no longer crash when multiple update results are processed at the same time. (64cf521) Links in WebEngine articles opened from feeds such as Kill the Newsletter now open correctly instead of being swallowed by the embedded page. (#2272) Relative article URLs resolution was kinda broken. (#2282) Clicking article URL did not work when the URL had "fragment" set. (#2293) The default proxy setting now uses Qt/system default proxy behavior instead of forcing no proxy. (e0263ad) WebEngine article loading now keeps the current feed context, so feed-specific proxy credentials remain available while the article page loads.
