how rubbish that all the diff versions hav edifferent images, vista was so much mor econvenient for IT Techs, 2 discs in your bag and you had vista covered.

the iso can be manually modified so you can install all editions from just the one disk. the info you need is buried in this thread somewhere. (search for ei.cfg)

Vista was like that too. Everything on the Iso but Ei.dll identifies the edition. Again, remove it, and you're set.

I think they put up some new download links in the "Top Downloads" section of TechNet's subscriber downloads. The speeds were very good. It pretty much maxed out my Internet connection.

When I click downloads in my technet subscription, I no longer get the little bar at the top with "my product keys" and "top downloads" and such... Anyone know what's up with that?

Update: Weird it seems on the en-us site it works fine, but for en-ca it doesn't show the bar below the tabs... Odd...

Weird, yea the en-us site works just fine, but the en-ca downloads site doesn't have that bar, but the rest of the en-ca site does, just not the downloads... And when I try to load the site, IE8 gives me that little yellow triangle with the exclamation mark to show it didn't load properly...

I'm actually surprised at how easy it was to install and use Windows 7. I backed up the drivers for my Dell Studio 1535 with the intention to install them one by one. However, Windows Update covered pretty much everything. My wireless Internet connection worked before I even booted to the desktop. With Windows Vista, I had to manually install the drivers otherwise I would be Internet-less.

Perhaps it has something to do with installing Windows 7 over Windows Vista. Unfortunately, I'm experiencing a weird issue with my main PC. I could notice a bizarre delay whenever I minimize windows with Aero enabled. It's as if the frame rate drops dramatically every time I minimize a window. Previously, I ran Windows Vista Ultimate x64 w/ SP2 and I performed an in-place upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate x64. I uninstalled and reinstalled my video card drivers and that didn't help. Is anyone else experiencing this?

so to the subscribers when you get the rtm, do you also get a product key as well? i mean rtm is the final version basically right, no more changes? so if you have the download and a key provided by msdn then you don't have to buy a retail or oem copy in ocotber? or am i way off base here?

sorry for the noob question but im curious!

I had the same experience when I did a clean install on a Studio 1737.

Frankly, I was shocked when it was showing me available wireless networks during setup.

You can generate up to 10 product keys for each edition of Windows 7, and each product key can be activated on up to 10 unique machines. In a sense, you don't have to purchase Windows 7 in October. I mean, why would you? :p

Yeah, it definitely was a shocker.

Short answer: Yes and RTM means it is final, and will be exactly the same as if you purchased it off the store.

Long Answer: MSDN and Technet EULA says you can only use their products for Development (MSDN) and testing purposes (Technet), but not in productive environment, but let's face it: How many people actually follows that?

Vista and Windows 7 does a great job handling drivers during installation, I've never had to take out any driver CDs for anything since vista.

Been running RTM for a few days now. Running excellent.

I've been getting requests from people for product keys - sorry, I can't do that.

Thats funny, its like handing out cars from your garrage :p

    • It's time to say goodbye to Edge and switch back to Firefox. There's no way to disable the ugly rounded corners that appear everywhere. Not even on the page frame. No one uses screens with rounded corners, you idiots.

    • Gen Atlas is the next game from Shadow of the Colossus creator, this time with giant robots by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe The mind behind widely well-received games like Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, and The Last Guardian, Fumito Ueda, showed up at Summer Game Fest today, and that was to reveal his latest project. Being developed by genDESIGN, Gen Atlas is incoming with what looks to be plenty of mech and robot action. Watch the reveal trailer, which makes not much sense, above. The game will have players waking up on an abandoned planet where deserted facilities and grand designs from the original creators remain. Soon, they will stumble upon a colossal robot, from which players gain access to the power to change the world. "Across an endless expanse of time, the remnants of those forgotten constructs begin to move once more," adds the studio. The gameplay snippets seen in the trailer show the player character climbing giant robots (as expected from the creator), while also controlling these titans somehow as well. This is a fully single-player open-world adventure. “The team and I are grateful to all the fans who’ve been eager to learn more about our game,” says Fumito Ueda, CEO and creative director of genDESIGN. “Their passion and enthusiasm has always motivated and inspired us. We hope to share an experience that inspires moments of quiet wonder and discovery.” Before gaining the name Gen Atlas, Ueda first announced this project back in 2024 with the codename Project Robot. Interestingly, this will be a project being funded and published by Epic Games, which should mean that a Steam release is out of the question. Gen Atlas will be releasing on Epic Games Store, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. A release date has not been announced just yet.
    • How backwards can you have it? Yes, Linux was gaining because of Linux handhelds and the push for gaming compatibility, but that's not desktop users, it barely converts anyone who owns a SteamDeck, though it helps for those who wanted to do it, but anyways, the AI+RAM debacle helped Linux because people can't easily upgrade their PCs easily and many hate AI so they'd be incentivized to try Linux.
