[Formula 1] 2010 Silly Season

I'm not too keen on the new Ferrari. The nose is a carbon copy of last year's Red Bull, which may be effective but is quite ugly. The livery... what were they thinking by making the wings and barge boards white? Ugh. I would have preferred them to be black.

lol

all are saying f10's nose, sidepod... looks like copied from redbull+bmw+braw. :D

anyways, f60 & f10 compared

f10 is clearly loooong :p

Ferrari calls off F10 shakedown

The Ferrari team has been forced to call off the shakedown of its new car due to the poor weather conditions at the Fiorano circuit.

Brazilian Felipe Massa was scheduled to give the new F10 its first run today after the car was unveiled in Maranello this morning.

However, the Italian circuit was covered with ice due to the low temperatures and Ferrari has been forced to postpone the run.

The team said it will carry out the shakedown as soon as the weather allows it.

what if Ferrari repeats a BMW of 2009 in 2010? :p

ferrari f10 launch (watch from 6.00)

i love the color it seems they have gone back to a darker red again. the car itself looks like a redbull copy to me. will that be ennough? sure it will be fast, especially in felipes hands, but i expected a little bit more. lets see what mclaren shows us tomorrow.

Wonder if F1 will ever adapt some form of boost button. They have that in some US racing leagues, and last year the KERS did provide a boost for those using it (but it also came with design penalty).

I've read that drivers will be able to adjust the fuel/air mixture themseves to give a few extra bhp, which should act as a kind of boost system. The trade off being extra fuel consumption which could be interesting with no refuelling.

The extra difference of the large fuel tank is clear on that overhead comparison, the longer wheelbase is going to make the cars tough to handle at slow tracks. Apart from copying Red Bull's nose design I don't really see much different from last year's car, I guess we will probably see more aero parts when the car takes to the track though.

It does seem a bit strange. ?I thought the white was there because I thought the santander logo was red. ?But the logo is infact white letter on red. ?So they could have stuck with red and stuck nice big white letters on. ?Perhaps the red on white is better looking?

Ferrari: Schumacher return a misdeed

Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo says he never expected Michael Schumacher to drive for another team, the Italian labelling the German's return to F1 with Mercedes as a "misdeed".

The Ferrari boss also said he was responsible for making Schumacher feel the desire to return to Formula 1 after his retirement in 2006.

Schumacher spent 13 years at Ferrari before he decided to quit three years ago. This year it was announced the German would join Mercedes GP for at least three seasons.

"I like Schumacher and I'm this misdeed's author," di Montezemolo said during the launch of Ferrari's new car in Maranello.

"It was me who woke his desire to come back to racing and honestly I never thought I'd see him in a car that wasn't a Ferrari.

"He's a competitor, an opponent, like many others. I'm not worried about the possibility that he might have taken material from our development."

Di Montezemolo also praised his own drivers Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa, who he reckons will form a strong partnership this year.

"When Ferrari decided in 2005 to take Raikkonen the alternative was Alonso, who now finds himself in a fundamental moment of his life. He's matured, young and strong; he has won two World Championships, one in 2005 and one in 2006, beating us 100 per cent," he added.

"We don't have any problem as far as our drivers are concerned. We have Massa, who is back with further enthusiasm, we have Alonso I just told you about and then we have Fisichella as the third driver and two very experienced test drivers: Marc Gene and Luca Badoer."

Seriously, what the hell could he have taken to Mercedes? The last time Schumi raced, in 2006 the cars where radically different to the 2010 cars. None of any Ferrari data schumi had would have been any good to them.

And honestly, LDM is just moaning for the sake of it. Can't remember which of the Ferrari guys pointed it out, but drivers are just employees like everyone else, and you can't get attatched to them.

Enzo Ferrari told his that to his son :p

The Ferrari vice-president went on to relate a story his father told him regarding drivers: "He always said that we must never take love for pilots, because they are either killed or going to run for other teams, we must always treat them as employees, though very important."

McLaren always produce such beautiful looking F1 cars. It is also interesting to see them go with the connected shark fin design, in the past they had always said that their car was so good under yaw that they didn't need it. Also it will be interesting to see what it looks like when the wraps come off their new diffuser design for the first time, and if it infers them any lap time advantage. Also looks like the wheelbase is a couple of images shorter than that on the Ferrari, I feel it may give them a small advantage at tight and twisty circuits like Monaco.

Now that the teams have had a year to get used to the regulations, it is interesting to see what they are coming up with

Look at the comparison image above - the McLaren has a longer wheelbase.

I don't like the connected shark fin design at all. Efficient as it may be, it's still ugly. Really, really ugly.

Wow, They are all going for long wheel bases this year? Any reason in particular? Space for bigger fuel tank maybe? i thought shorter was better in handling?

A shorter wheelbase makes the cars more nimble, and they turn in more sharply, making a car faster at circuits like monaco. A longer wheelbase makes a car more stable, and give up better grip in high speed corners, like Turn 8 at turkey or turn 3 at Barcelona

Will the wheelbase make that much of a difference between the two cars? ?After all aren't Ferrari's meant to rely on aero where as the mclaren is more mechanical for speed?

Time will only tell.

The difference doesn't seem that great really, Couple of inches, Don't think it will make too much difference but things like aero, wing placement and diffusers will play a big part in cooperation with the wheelbase

The difference is only miniscule, so I can't see the difference being massive like it was in 2007 with McLaren nearly 1s per lap faster. And yes, McLaren do generally tend to fare better at circuits that are more dependant on mechanical grip, and Ferrari do generally design better Aero cars, but if McLaren have stolen as much of a march with their new diffuser as they think, it could make life hard for Ferrari as the noises coming out of their camp indicate that they may have been a bit too conservative again.

    • Unofficial script lets you install unreleased Windows 11 features without Microsoft Account by Sayan Sen Microsoft has been steadily evolving the Windows Insider Program over the years, introducing new channels and testing paths that allow enthusiasts to experience upcoming and yet-to-be-released Windows features (some interesting hidden ones too) before they reach the public. However, one long-standing requirement has remained largely unchanged as users are generally expected to enroll in the Program and with a Microsoft account. That's where a third-party tool called "OfflineInsiderEnroll" can help. OfflineInsiderEnroll is said to be a lightweight script that enables access to Windows Insider Program builds on systems that are not signed in with a Microsoft account. Essentially the tool configures the necessary Insider settings locally and hence allows users to select and switch between available preview channels while continuing to receive builds through the normal Windows Update channel. If you are wondering how it manages to do so, it is made possible by a Registry value known as TestFlags. When configured to"0x20", Windows stops communicating with Microsoft's online Insider enrollment services thus preventing locally configured Insider settings from being overwritten. This allows the script to apply its own channel configuration directly through the Registry as Windows Update does not verify whether a device has been officially enrolled in the Insider Program or not. Previously the utility has had already supported the traditional Insider branches including Dev, Beta, and Release Preview. However following Microsoft’s recent restructuring of its preview channels, the script has now been updated. The latest OfflineInsiderEnroll version, 2.6.6, adds support for the newly introduced Insider channel lineup. As such, users can now choose from several Experimental channels in addition to Beta and Release Preview options. The update also retains tools for refreshing the Insider cache, resetting Insider settings, and completely stopping Insider enrollment when needed. Keep in mind though that will need elevated privileges when running the script (run as Admin). You can get the latest version of OfflineInsiderEnroll from this page on its official GitHub repo.
    • The "Classic" Outlook has done that for a few years as well. The option to even change that is really hidden away too... It really shouldn't be hard to respect user defaults. Sadly we are the product now, not Outlook. To change in the Classic Outlook: File > Options > Advanced > change "Open hyperlinks from Outlook in"
