[OFFICIAL] Xbox LIVE Preview Program: Zune, Facebook and Twitter

Recommended Posts

So I got the beta invite yesterday, but when I turned my xbox on, I got nothing about an update.. Still haven't gotten it today.. Anyone know why or how to force it to update?

why can't us Aussies get last.fm on the dash if i can pay for an account to listen through the site? this is silly! there can't be a licensing issue as i am already paying for the content...so what's the difference?

Yeah but people find it annoying that MS have taken it upon themselves to define that someone that merely buys their console is basically a peasant and deserves nothing, only people that pay them further money in a subscription deserve any loyalty at all.

You've gotta love that someone that pays out hundreds of dollars or pounds is deemed not to be worth of anything, not even demos at the same time as everyone else.

Hey Lives awesome for gaming and all that jazz, but MS have a seriously overly harsh view of some pretty basic apps/services at times. The difficulty with gamer perception is they have most of the people on Gold believing what they believe, only Gold members deserve anything. Some of you guys act like MS have invented Facebook/LastFM/Twitter and Silver users should be laughed at for even asking for these things.

You don't have to be an online gaming nut to want to stream some music at a party when you're friends are over, there should be reasons for people on Silver to actually want to have their 360 hooked up to the internet.

Yeah I just don't get why company's do that, I mean I paid for a luxury car but I would expect that car to run like reventon and have interior like maybach  . I don't like some of the MS's tactics but this one works for them and I do like there service for $50.00 a year, which I don't mind paying for.

oh crap I found out why I haven't received the update yet...

ATTENTION: We detected a problem with the Console ID you have submitted to us. Most likely this is caused by entering the wrong number for your Console ID when you signed up.

Please locate your console ID and resubmit it to us using this survey. We will try again to validate your Console ID. When we have validated your Console ID, this message will disappear. Check back in 3-4 business days, and this message will be removed if/when your Console ID was corrected.

Guess thats what I get for getting my 7 yr old to call out the numbers to me while I put them in. Oh well I fixed it now, will see how long it takes for it to be updated.

Is the update live for everyone now? I just got prompted for a dash update, and I didn't sign up for the preview, and I'm currently on a Silver account right now. Taking forever to DL though as I've used up my bandwidth for the month, so my connection is slower than dial up until the end of the month :p

That was to add WPA2 support to Wi-Fi and stuff for the Wireless N dongle I think.

  • 2 weeks later...

I just streamed my first movie as a test last night, worked fine, but I couldn't use my credit card to purchase the movie like they said in E3. does anybody know if they're just doing this for the preview program or did they decide to exclude the use of credit cards in the live release as well.

Until they allow last.fm ingame (which will probably require another update), there is nothing special about the new dash. You can wait ;)

Well, that's all just a matter of opinion, it seems quite a few people like and want to use the FB and Twitter parts as well.

Major Nelson says:

Here is how to find 'em: Facebook and Twitter will appear automatically on your dashboard in the new My Community channel, Zune Video is in the Video Channel and Last.FM will be found under the Music Channel.

Can't try it myself until I get home from work.

Pretty snazzy we don't need to download an update (Y)

Looks like MS are keeping up their promise of minimal downtime for updates etc etc

Essentially you already downloaded the necessary updates in the past.

There's been one or two Live updates that didn't actually do anything, just prepared for the social apps. I remember one being about 100mb? Brad had a hissy fit about that :p

Seems he was the 360 forums Ricardo for the day

    • Maybe it's just my old-school soul talking, but I’ve always felt that games aren't 'real' games until they hit the PC. Leaving the PC community out at launch just doesn't sit right with me. That being said, I'm probably going to buy the PS5 just for the fun of trying it out.

    • Rockstar confirms Grand Theft Auto VI pre-orders begin next week, unveils cover art by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe The release date of Grand Theft Auto VI has moved quite a lot since its original announcement in 2023, but it finally looks like the game has found its final launch slot. Rockstar today had a new video upload on its YouTube channel, and while it wasn't a new trailer for the game, the company revealed two things. This was the pre-order kickoff date for Grand Theft Auto VI as well as the game's official cover art. The company revealed that June 25 is when fans of the series will be able to pre-order their copy of Grand Theft Auto VI. Pre-orders will be available both digitally and in retail stores. The newly unveiled cover art shows off the two new protagonists, as well as a few more characters that are probably vital to the campaign storyline. Shots of vehicles players can use like a light helicopter, motorcycle, sports car, and speed boat are also seen here, alongside a shot of a crocodile. "Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them," says Rockstar describing the campaign's protagonist duo. "But when an easy score goes wrong, they find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, in the middle of a conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida — forced to rely on each other more than ever if they want to make it out alive." Grand Theft Auto VI is coming to Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 on November 19, 2026. A PC version has not been confirmed yet, though it's expected by many to land after the console release. When asked about this, the Take-Two CEO says it considers the core audience for the Grand Theft Auto franchise to be on consoles.
