[OFFICIAL] Xbox LIVE Preview Program: Zune, Facebook and Twitter

Recommended Posts

I'm pretty certain the last update released was for the Wireless N adapter. Everything recently related to the dashboard itself has been on the fly (Halo Waypoint etc)

Preview program excluded as that was based around invites (and backed because non-invitees didn't need to update today).

There's been a few updates, one of them definitely was preparation for social apps.

Check under My Community. I had to go there to download facebook to the 360. Only thing I don't seem to have is Last.FM.

thanks! odd that it was not a system update.

^ that's what I'm saying. MS designed and promised that the NXE would allow them to change more on the back end without the user having to update as often/receive down time.

I quite like the Last.FM part :) Fairly addictive, nice little feature.

Facebooks is nice and simple. I havent used the Twitter part or Zune, but there seems to be a fair selection of films on there.

I haven't really been following this - can the Last.fm app run in the background whilst playing? If it can't, it's fairly pointless (as I guess if anyone wants to listen to music they're not going to turn on the 360).

Well since losing all my music on my HDD, i am glad that i can listen to it on last.FM even if it is only random tracks at a time.

So glad i signed upto Last.FM and scobbled everything.

Facebook is facebook

Zune looks cool but like the M$ films they need more up todate movies.

Facebook aap is pretty useless if it can't run in the background and recieve updates while your playing a game or watching a movie And isn't the point of Twitter to quicly jot down something small and in the moment? Makes sense in a web browser or on a phone but on the 360? In anycase I think both apps are useless without the chat pad anyways!

I imagine this is only the first stage for these apps. As time passes I wouldn't be surprised if the 360 gets a web browser and these apps get useful updates that bring them in line with the full web versions.

I could see them never giving the 360 a web browser and keeping live a walled in experience

Tried Last.fm, actually it's really good. Ads are currently just splash screens every 4-5 songs played but I guess those may change in the near future.

Facebook isn't too bad but seems to stuggle loading images within posts. Bit of an annoyance that you can't add friends who haven't got an Xbox Live ID.

I do like the added Xbox logo to posts posted from the Xbox. Personally I do prefer the iPhone version.

Loaded Zune, didn't really get it but I'm not a Zune user either. Looking at it, seems like they might mash this into the Video section on the dash or visa versa because it seems a tad silly to have two services by the same company that essentially are trying to do the same thing.

They'll fully merge the zune and xbox marketplace at some point, it's a pretty much given right now. Only thing is when the licensing goes through. I'm betting on later in 2010 though, maybe with another future Zune update as well (it's at 4.3 right now iirc, so maybe a 4.5?).
