[Official] Dragon Age: Origins

Awesome - that should stop my long-range characters going gung-ho. I can then easily micro-manage their distances to ensure they stay in range.

I have another question:

My scout currently wears light armour but I do have a matched set of medium armour he could use. Is it worth using medium armour or does it impact too much on his attributes and weaken his attacking/skills ability?

Let me put it this way. There's no one way to play this game. Yes, it is linear in nature but the gameplay is open ended. You can put the worst armor on yourself and still can manage to the beat the game. Do what you like and follow what you want to do. Don't be a completionist. Just enjoy the game and see how your personal choices affect the end of the game.

F5 and F9 are going to be your two favorite keys in this game. (Quick save and quick load)

Your exaggerating more than a little bit. Alot of the outdoor environments are very bland and also some of the indoor sections too. Many of the towns and indoor sections are actually very nice, with lots of detail and character all over them. Make sure you zoom in from the tactical view occasionally to appreciate the true scope of some of the castles/dungeons etc. as many have lovely roofs and lighting effects that you can't see from top down.

Considering the scope and the game, how many places there are to visit and how everything looks good together and nothing contrasts in different areas I would say the gfx are more than adequate for an rpg.

Definitely not worth buying an alien rig for though lol (not that any game is when their systems are so hideously overpriced!!)

I have changed my tune on the graphics now. I still wish some of the outdoor open envirions were a bit better tho. There are lots of mods popping up so its just a matter of time before some great texture packs are available. Now that Ive played for a while the gameplay, dialogue choices and especially the voice acting have really impressed me. I havent played a game like this in a long time, I thought these days were over. This is a good game.

----------HELP----------

Can someone please help me on how to get my party to follow me once again? They just stopped following me,did I Press a wrong button? I tried tweaking with the tactics menu for hours.

Thanks my fellow neowins

PS its on the STEAM version .

After some Google research I found out the answer to this issue, press h on your keyboard and they will follow once again!

Hope this can help out anyone else who has this issue.

I frigging love it when you have a dangerous encounter and, because you positioned your characters really well, you barely have a mark on you once the battle is over.

Sten is an absolute beast - you can generally just set him away to solo the main baddie while Wynne heals from distance, Alistair fannies about and my rogue dots about stabbing folk in the back.

Loving this game :D

Can someone explain to me why my potions won't work when I'm not in combat ? I choose lyrium potion through the radial menu... my char drinks it and nothing happens at all. my mana won't go up.

Now i'm at the golem quest and i'm trying to use flame blast and/or cone of cold and they are greyed out, even though I have enough mana.

Can someone please explain to me why this is happening... it's driving me nuts

Finally found what the problem was.

Fatigue.

It was at 70% and because of that my mana was not regenerating anymore.

Hm. I've done something wrong I think because my characters aren't using their tactics. Anyone know a good source if tactics?

I find tactics are a bit hit and miss to be honest. They especially have a tendency to go wrong if say your rogue switches from ranged to melee, and then obviously can't follow ranged tactics. Particularly if you are playing the PC version, you will almost certainly find it better to control all of the characters yourself, and set up basic tactics whereby if they are about to die they drink a potion and that sort of thing.

If they are obviously not working, make sure the cross is activated next to the tactic line in the menu. As for a good source, I don't think there really is one, given the enormous combination of spells and talents you can get. You could set up tactics to do spell combinations for mages I guess.

New Dragon Age Expansion Spotted

UK, January 4, 2010 - BioWare's RPG spectacular Dragon Age: Origins could be in line for a fittingly epic expansion with retailers leaking details of Awakening, a retail pack that's been listed for PC and Xbox 360.

Dragon Age: Awakening was spotted on online retailers by Eurogamer over the festive break, but listings have since been pulled. They offered brief details on the expansion, revealing it would introduce an all new character who would come complete with their own prologue and around 15 hours of play. :o

Awakening was listed as a March 19 release for the PC, with Kotaku spotting similar details for an Xbox 360 version – although no details on a PS3 version have been spotted to date.

Dragon Age: Origins was one of the highlights of 2009, a return to BioWare's high fantasy past and a fitting addition to the catalogue of one of the most talented RPG creators. In short, then, 9.2.

Love this game! I bought it when it first came out and played an elf mage all the way to the to the end then stopped. I stopped because once you get to the last series of "Blight" quests all your other ones just disappear & I wanted to finish the side quests first. Now I'm re-rolling a human noble two handed warrior & I mist say the combat is MUCH more fun than being a caster. This time I am going to take my time to do the side quests this game has a tendency to make me want to see more of the story all the time, hence me just steamrolling through the blight content and missing out on all the other stuff. So if your new to this game try to resist just seeing the main story line, stop and do some of the rewarding side quests as well.

Loving the game so far but not too far into it... Done sooo many side quests its ridiculous, but I find quite a lot of the dungeons to be a bit tedious... Like the one where you have to get to the Urn of Sacred Ashes was sooo long! It was literally just walk forward, meet a group of enemies, kill them, repeat with exactly the same enemies, and it went on for ages. There were a few branches off but still...

It is a really engrossing story though and I am really liking it. I love how many decisions there are and how non-linear it feels. There is obviously a fairly linear aspect to it, but it feels like it gives you way more flexibility than most RPGs I've played.

I have a tech support question for this game & if anyone has any ideas I would be greatly appreciative of your help. For some reason when I go to my Bioware profile I can see the achievments that I've earned but I can't see ANY character detal such as level, kills, and experience. Got any Ideas? Thanks!

Just started playing it. Bought it back when Steam had their first sale on the Deluxe version.

Glad I bought it for PC and not PS3. Mods make these games so much better.

Yea got it back awhile ago. Yet I have played maybe 10 minutes worth of it. Not sure why, it is awesome.

Nevermind, I guess it just takes 5 days to upload character data from my game to Bioware's profile lol

Release date:

NA March 16, 2010

EU March 18, 2010

I'm going to play it tonight :woot:

Its pretty good im really enjoyng the added layers of story involved. Feels like a good expansion can definitely see myself getting my monies worth - in terms of game hours - out of this expansion. After coming from ME2, seems strange not having the main character voiceover. But besides that fans should grab this and get to the pew pew, really enjoying the new battlemage

    • NVIDIA officially supports Ubuntu, as linked above with the GeForce NOW Hands on I did in collaboration with Paul Hill.
    • TO be clear I am not running linux today, however I keep thinking about it. And I want to make sure there are minimal obstacles if I decide to make that switch in the coming months.
    • Yes, I actually glossed over the Linux part from the OP. You could always go for a 9070 XT and if you really want to play Ray Traced games in the future, GeForce Now is pretty damn good on Linux https://www.neowin.net/news/nvidias-native-geforce-now-app-for-linux-bridges-the-gaming-gap-hands-on/
