Halo Reach Thread

Where is the gamplay video? Or are cut scenes rendered with the in game engine considered gameplay now? Bunge still might release the game at a much lower resolution than what is shown there, if the game isn't rendered in 720p at a bare minimum that will be pretty lame.

We don't have gameplay yet, but the trailer released is the showcase for the engine. Bungie can do a lot of things but that's why we can compare in one thread. As more information, screenshots and videos come out.

It would be pretty cool if you got to witness like a ship-to-ship battle while Reach is being bombarded, kind of like a tragic scene where you know you're going to lose and the only choice is to flee.

Maybe a couple months before its released it would be better to make one, but not now.

It is a couple of months. We are getting BETA in Spring that we already got the codes for with ODST.

And there, I took out OFFICIAL from the name of the thread.. does that make anything better now? Or should I not talk about Halo Reach at all, up until a month before it's release?

My two pence: BETA or Official game threads shouldn't be allowed until one month before confirmed release date.

Although, it's quite annoying when people post a new thread just to point out that the vicar who married the sound designer and secretary of X Game Developer has had a cold cup of coffee from Starbucks.

Getting back to the game, in a interview about the video, I forget who, but it was said that what they are showing is pretty much how it'll look at gameplay time, so that's very close to the level of gfx we should expect unless the beta shows us otherwise.

I have my doubts :/ I think the graphics will suck a bit - mostly the AA stuff. Overall I am not very sure of the "look" of the game. It's not very "Halo".

Well it looks more like MW2 style of graphics but in Halo universe. And if that's the case, I totally approve. It's more gritty, down the earth, soldier/army feel which Reach is about. I just hope they take away all the over-colored mess it was before. It just felt too cartoonish. This one feels more real.

This week's BWU confirmed that the trailer had extra AA applied (if anyone had doubts.)

They also mention that there will be flood of new content including information about many questions raised by the trailer "soon" ~ 2nd week of January when some unnamed magazines hit the stands.

Whew, just uploaded 28 screenshots for the upcoming Reach cover stories. You'll see them in a few weeks!

Well, touching up trailers and screenshots shouldn't really come as a surprise to anyone, seems like everyone does it these days.

Though, I am really excited to see some real gameplay or some proper screenshots as I'm really curious about the game but I have so many doubts.

Obviously it will.. maybe not 100% of everything but the fact they advertise it as "Falls 2010" it will be about what happens to Reach planet as described in the book and events that happened there. In Halo 3 ODST they yell in one of the missions "It's Reach all over again". So Reach is definitely going to fall in the game which will show the death of all Spartans but Master Chief who was dispatched to the secret mission leading to Halo 1. My thoughts at least.

Ummm they didn't all die...Kelly is on the Pillar injured, and another squad went underground and survived.

Well, ofc they do but they were pretty clear that the trailer shown was from ingame in the sense that it's not fully prerendered video but the game engine. Having a bit more AA in those is doable without any real hit to performance so why not use it? Either way I think the game will be a good solid improvment over Halo 3 and ODST on the gfx front. ODST being more of a halo3 expansion didn't really change much.

But that is what Halo is... Games shouldn't be so absolutely based in reality because they are supposedly an escape from it. Halo's approach to color and world design is one of my favorites. I don't mind a grittier feel, but MW/COD are in no way at the top of my list of artistic prowess. They look real because they are about real things. Halo isn't.

    • I'm not unblocking my camera for this crapola. Sorry, Google.
    • Ummmm that is what is it supposed to do. Just turn if off in settings if you do not want it analyzing your open tabs. Chrome does the same thing with Gemini. Sarfari will do the samething after Apple's AI and even more so with the release of their 27 versions that is now powered by Googles LLM/ML models. Understanding why it is doing it and how it can help you vs jumping to some conspiracy theroy is a much better approach. As long as it can be turned off, all is good. Yes the default should be off but the a lot of people would never discover these features.
    • Just another reason (aside from many others) not to use Edge. Firefox 153.0b5 DEx64 has a similar feature added recently in prior builds that I will turn off at some point when I get around to it. It's the new "Something looks suspicious" page that pops up here and there. It cleverly hides itself between web pages that I've actually visited; as a result, you know, of selecting a web page and telling the browser where to go. The interesting thing is that it does not produce these warnings from pages that I, as the only intelligent user of the browser in my system, have ever directed the browser to open! What seems to be happening is that the browser looks at all the goofy ad links on a web page I do actually open and selects one that "looks suspicious" and then creates the "something looks suspicious" web page, which is neatly inserted, as mentioned, between web pages my RB ("real brain") has directed the browser to load in a session. The thing is, I usually look at links I am considering to follow before I ask the browser to load them, and in cases I have noticed where the link does indeed look suspicious, most of the time I will choose to not follow the link at all. Doesn't everyone do this or something similar? I am picky about what I voluntarily load... (I don't like links that start off fine, with a site designaiton that seems normal enough but then is followed by indecipherable alphanumeric strings many, many lines long, etc. I tend to reject those because they look suspicious. They may not be, but I don't care... I'll stay with Firefox, of course, if for no other reason than they usually let you turn off the junk you don't like. And because it isn't Edge... But at some point Microsoft will come to realize that putting your bookmarks on the left side is a Good Thing for a lot of people, just as Microsoft discovered when it had the bright idea of nailing the Windows taskbar to the bottom of the screen, when for decades Microsoft browsers had left that placement up to the user. They have finally reversed the obscenity of that decision. Finally.
    • Google was using the old CATPCHAs data to train their LLMs. What is the say they won't use this camera data of users to train their LLM? these companies need some strict regulations!
