Halo Reach Thread

I was thinking Alan Wake would be the game of the year, but it seems like Halo Reach might take it based on the franchise popularity and the anticipation of this game.

I think right now if anything was to sway me towards buying a 360 it would be AW due to the fact I prefer that kind of game to FPS, but that's personal preference. I know what you are saying though and I think there is more chance that Halo would pick up GOTY due to the history that the franchise has.

Less swaying, more buying!

Same here. I am all about AW.

Found this on Ars' review. Assuming this is default, somewhat puzzled by the change in melee.

That's going to mess me up big time. I'm so used to using B for melee and RB for reload. Hopefully you can remap the buttons.

I just read through Ars Technica's preview: http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2010/04/refined-polished-punishing-ars-plays-halo-reach-multi.ars

Not a lot of new information, but it's still an interesting read. The new invulnerability time that they're adding to Juggernaut should it a little better (at present in Halo 3, you can shoot somebody even before they become Juggernaut, which makes it pretty ridiculous on small maps like Epitaph), but I would much rather have them do something about people getting kicked for accidental TKs. Juggernaut has become something of a joke within my group, since we always end up getting kicked because a stray grenade intended for the Juggernaut just happened to kill somebody else. And of course, the moron kicks without a second thought.

Can't wait for May 3rd :).

I saw the reviews earlier today, like in the AM and i was very happy. Im excited for this game. Also those controls dont look default.

But, totally ready for this game. Super 4, Skate 3, MoH, Ghost Recon(if its not on PC) and Halo will bring me back to playing my 360.

Possibly ;). I'm also the guy who gets to nine kills and then gets kicked because of a stray grenade, lol. I've lost track of how many times that has happened.

New ViDoc and information on the standard, limited and collectors editions posted.

Limited Edition and Legendary Edition detailed here: http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/22/halo-reach-special-editions-confirmed-including-150-legendar/

As much as I love Halo, I think I might just stick with the regular edition for this one (or maybe I'll take the middle ground and get the Limited Edition). That weird statue is just going to take up space in my closet like all of the other limited edition junk before it. That said, the flaming helmet looks hilarious. It would stick out like a sore thumb, but it's still hilarious :).

That Elite Armour is niiiiiiiiccceeee.

Bungie done good, the Legendary bundle really is just for those who want everything, moreso than H3 legendary.

I will be content with this Elite over a flaming helmet:

Elite Officer!

Who am I kidding, I'm gonna buy a japanese import of the standard edition cause I'm a student

Man the Bungie staff in the vidocs do talk some pretentious bullcrap sometimes...

To me they all seem so passionate and friendly especially towards one another. The part where they were describing how they keep some gameplay segments from a particular guy because it's his job to nerf it and he is essentially the joy killer made me chuckle :) If anything their vidocs make me think working at Bungie is the most awesome thing ever!

I know what you mean, everything about them suggests that they'd be a great employer and that the studios are a great work environment. But some of the stuff they say really is cringeworthy at times I reckon :shiftyninja:

Haha yeah I agree some of that stuff was just pure French cheese! Especially that Christian Bale looking dude. He cracked me up!

Looks like I am buying the limited edition when this thing comes out. :D Just saw the new ViDoc and wow I am really impressed.

The only thing I am confused on is how do you regain health? Is it like Halo 1 where you have to go and pick up health packs or what?

    • This looks awesome, I will request access via Steam later this afternoon!
    • Personally, I’ve found that it’s usually worth investing in the infrastructure you don’t want to replace later, especially cabling. Running Cat6A (or better, depending on your needs) during an upgrade is relatively inexpensive compared to having to re-cable a few years down the road. For switches I try to balance current specs with realistic growth. If my budget allows it Ill choose switches with higher uplink speeds which leaves room for expanding later on, but I don’t necessarily overspend on access ports if the endpoints won’t benefit from them anytime soon. One lesson I’ve learned is that planning for scalability pays off. It’s much easier to add devices, VLANs, or higher-bandwidth workloads when your network infrastructure already supports it than to replace hardware later.  What is your budget like?
    • I hate the term, "future-proof." We saw it back in the 90's / 2000's, if not before. You cannot future-proof anything, since there is no definition of how far into the future you plan on prepping for. Best idea is to tell us what you currently have and what its use is at the moment, and we can then offer ideas about some areas that might need an upgrade and other areas that can be left alone.
    • I can agree that it is being used in a small capacity. I worked for a company where their engineers still used XP, and when asked why it was because their sensor software wasn't compatible with newer operating systems and the software was discontinued so they couldn't upgrade the software. Given that the sensors were still in use by companies, they had to continue using XP to support the sensor, otherwise the price to the company would have gone into the millions or billions. Our response was simple: Ok, you can keep the XP machine. But we're removing it from the network. "But then it can't access the Internet or folder shares!" Yup, kinda the point. If someone wants to continue using an unsecure OS they can do, I have no problem with that. But it should be isolated. Simple. I had a fight with a guy in the engineering department for weeks before he finally relented. But we digress.   What do I plan on doing to commemorate the anniversary? Nothing. I have fond memories of the OS, but at the end of the day it's just an OS. If I had some time I might see if I could install it on my Raspberry Pi for a laugh. But my reflex memory with today's OS ideas would probably get me frustrated and I'd uninstall it after 5 mins.
