Halo Reach Thread

lol, do people really play on easy? I mean, I don't always start on the hardest difficulty, but easy just seems like tossing $$ out the window. But thanks for the answers.

I play almost every game I own on easy at some point. Generally I beat it on the hardest setting first.

Playing on easy is just way more fun, IMO. Never any frustration or worrying if you hit a checkpoint, you can progress smoothly -- it's just a no-hassle playthrough.

I never played Halo 3 and went straight to ODST. Am I missing out?

IMO ODST was crud compared to Halo 3, for campaign that is, ODSTs firefight mode was pretty sick.

May as well pickup Halo 3 if you've not played the trilogy they're all good n cheap?

I've found the Halo 3 campaign rather disappointing. ODST was more compact and diverse IMO. Reach beats both though. A lot!

Halo 3 was disappointing compared to ODST? Except for the level Cortana, I think all of them are real fun! In ODST you basically played each level twice - once in daytime and then at night!

I liked the atmosphere of the ODST campaign. A bit darker, and good story telling. The music added a lot too.

Of course Halo 3 was way more epic. But that's because it was the last part of the trilogy. But some parts just went on too long. That's what I liked about ODST. Just felt shorter and more diverse.

GOOD NEWS I just paid off

My Reach system + legendary edition

Just realized that the system still comes with a copy. Anyone wanna buy reach brand new sealed $45/free shipping?

If not its fine I'll find someone.

Ship to the UK? If you do I'll take it :D

Initial thoughts: Eh- it's still Halo. Not much has changed, it looks nice but is not 720p by the looks of it and the FoV is so small I'm getting motion sickness. Can't see my self completing this. I still don't understand the hype for this franchise.

I played this for an hour or two and it has already been said; it's just Halo.

I had expected them to do some underlying changes to the core gameplay mechanics, spruce the game up a bit and perhaps make the game a bit more 'sharp' so to speak. It feels exactly like Halo in every single way, features, the narrow Field of View, feels a bit like your waddling around in a permanent suit made of gum, the weapons feels weak and boring to shoot like they've done since Halo 1. They did however manage to screw up the Warthog driving physics. Back in Halo 1 / 2 / 3, I'd boot up the game just to race around that thing because the steering was so odd yet so fun. Now it seems like the direction of the car and the wheels have little to no correlation. Now it'll turn on a penny no matter what you're doing and it's now a massively generic experience.

Also as mentioned, this game can't possibly be running native 720p - Never seen so much texture blur and mush in my life.

Then again, I won't blame Bungie for not taking this in a new direction. Call of Duty does exactly the same and I have a secret passion for that, so of course bungie will stick to their recipe. All I'm saying is, there's nothing new to be had in this game, people who never really enjoyed the Halo series be it gameplay or story won't have to bother and die hard Halo fans will just get more of what they love. Just surprised it seems like Halo 3 + Halo 3: ODST mashed together and that's it.

I was considering pre-ordering the game as I know it'll be hype-fest of the year next to SC2 / Black Ops and most of my online friends would be buying it but I am thankful I got to try it, because it's certainly a big Skip 2.0.

A shame, I really want to like Halo as it's a quality developer that adds some great features I tend to love, I constantly have this faint hope that they will change the recipe a lil' :(

Not sure what you mean about the word "just" seeing as there really is no game that plays like Halo plays.

First off, I again am not really understanding why people refer to Halo is generic. As I said above, there really is no shooter that plays like Halo and Halo itself was vastly different than most FPS's at the time of its creation. You first sentance also confuses me. Why would they change a winning formula? Halo's formula is what makes it so great. The weapons in CE were also very strong in their feel. I agree the weapons felt weak in 2 and 3 but in Halo CE and even Reach the weapons have some more kick and the CE pistol felt like a sledgehammer. I can't say anything aboutt he vehicles. I have always been a foot-man myself but from what I saw in the Beta the vehicles were gimped a bit too much.

Also as mentioned, this game can't possibly be running native 720p - Never seen so much texture blur and mush in my life.

It is. I don't know what you mean by texture blurring unless you mean blurry textures, of which I saw very little of even in the Beta.

MW2 is extremely different than CoD4. In fact, the game's entire feeling and mood is different in terms of MP. The game is blatantly spontaneous and goofy in MW2 while in CoD4 it felt refined, direct and hardcore. I personally can't take MW2 seriously, not that I ever took Halo very seriously (although Reach seems to have made that much easier despite the armor abilities and loadouts).

While I haven't looked into Black Ops much, I instantly shut the game out of my mind upon seeing its announcement trailer and its complete mocking of the time period.

No offense, but it looks like you're trying pretty hard not to like it seeing as you think it "being Halo" is a negative but then at the same time you respect the CoD games for retaining their gameplay (when they didn't).

BTW - I'm fairly bored so I'm taking this a bit more seriously than I should... But that's what I get for replying to a topic which is discussing something I am admittedly a fanboy of and doing so on only three hours of sleep...

Because I give every new game the chance they deserve, the rest of the Halo games were pretty poor and I had expected Bungie to just tweak the recipe a bit, they didn't. ( Except they destroyed the Warthog )

And I see them everywhere in the retail product.

So you think the destruction of the single, go-to weapon, removal of Dual Wielding, addition of an entirely new mechanics such as loadouts and armor abilities (even the mere addition of sprint) doesn't mix up the recipe? What about the revamped Covenant arsenal, enemies and the return of the homing rocket in at least single player? I'm not sure how long or deep you went into the game but there is plenty there that has changed.

And I see them everywhere in the retail product.

I can't really comment on what I haven't seen. But I'll request an example. All the MP video, Beta gameplay and campaign video I have seen has yet to reveal anything significantly low in quality. In fact, I'm more than impressed with some of the texture/normal mapping Bungie has done on their models.

    • According to Microsoft, Cause: One of the drivers controlling the device notified the operating system that the device failed in some manner.   https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/error-codes-in-device-manager-in-windows-524e9e89-4dee-8883-0afa-6bca0456324e
    • This looks awesome, I will request access via Steam later this afternoon!
    • Personally, I’ve found that it’s usually worth investing in the infrastructure you don’t want to replace later, especially cabling. Running Cat6A (or better, depending on your needs) during an upgrade is relatively inexpensive compared to having to re-cable a few years down the road. For switches I try to balance current specs with realistic growth. If my budget allows it Ill choose switches with higher uplink speeds which leaves room for expanding later on, but I don’t necessarily overspend on access ports if the endpoints won’t benefit from them anytime soon. One lesson I’ve learned is that planning for scalability pays off. It’s much easier to add devices, VLANs, or higher-bandwidth workloads when your network infrastructure already supports it than to replace hardware later.  What is your budget like?
    • I hate the term, "future-proof." We saw it back in the 90's / 2000's, if not before. You cannot future-proof anything, since there is no definition of how far into the future you plan on prepping for. Best idea is to tell us what you currently have and what its use is at the moment, and we can then offer ideas about some areas that might need an upgrade and other areas that can be left alone.
    • I can agree that it is being used in a small capacity. I worked for a company where their engineers still used XP, and when asked why it was because their sensor software wasn't compatible with newer operating systems and the software was discontinued so they couldn't upgrade the software. Given that the sensors were still in use by companies, they had to continue using XP to support the sensor, otherwise the price to the company would have gone into the millions or billions. Our response was simple: Ok, you can keep the XP machine. But we're removing it from the network. "But then it can't access the Internet or folder shares!" Yup, kinda the point. If someone wants to continue using an unsecure OS they can do, I have no problem with that. But it should be isolated. Simple. I had a fight with a guy in the engineering department for weeks before he finally relented. But we digress.   What do I plan on doing to commemorate the anniversary? Nothing. I have fond memories of the OS, but at the end of the day it's just an OS. If I had some time I might see if I could install it on my Raspberry Pi for a laugh. But my reflex memory with today's OS ideas would probably get me frustrated and I'd uninstall it after 5 mins.
