Halo Reach Thread

Obviously if someone was any good with sniper to begin with. Remember, pre live the only way you knew people were any good were through lan parties. Live changed that.

Or the PC version >.> <.<

Is that for the special edition or after some promo? According to the CAG thread its only $30. Either way I'll probably still trade it in or sell it somewhere, I just don't see myself putting much more time into this game.

You were correct, they are only offering $30 for it, so I chose to hold on to it for a rainy day.

The Xbox 360 sure showed it's power off to me 2 nights ago. In Reach I was working on "farming" achievos that night. I downloaded a custom firefight file from a user from youtube to get the 1 million point and killionare. Game was set to Legendary on Corvette, and got into the bonus round, and there were just SWARMS coming out. I had the rocket launcher, bottomless clip and just went to town. HOLY CRAP, that place was getting lit up with stuff flying and enemies soaring, and explosions just off the hook. Just the number of enemies on the screen, and all the action, amazing. Not a drop in frame rate, nada.

yup I have noticed that too on Overlook with swarms of Elites piling on me!

I am not surprised to be honest, the hype train is riding off into the distance!

It's the same as the other halo's, only difference is you can change your armor

On a different note anybody see the XIM3 device ? Looked it up yesterday from hearing about it, allows for mouse and KB, lol, heck I'll get it, I suck on a controller

Yea I had that happen with cupcakes custom game, so i swapped the rocket for the mini gun, bottomless works on that also, but i was on ONI base for my game, and just stood at the top of the ramp and mowed them all Jessie Ventura style

Yeah, thanks man. I was actually using that video :(. I gave up after about 15 tries. I guess I will just keep at it. I haven't even assassinated him yet. I just fall right behind him and die.

Same here. Usually I just fall and die, sometimes I'll somehow manage to kill him without an assassination at all, and once in a great while I'll actually assassinate him without getting the achievement. One time I even punched him in the back and nothing happened.

indeed, I did that a while ago lol.

How is everyone's experience with matchmaking in Reach?

For me, Halo Reach matchmaking is the worst I've ever experienced. 95% of the time the game has to pause while someone leaves, even before the game starts. And it'll often pause again so someone else can leave.

I've just tried to play now; The first time I try the other team leaves one by one within 5 minutes. The second time I try again 2 people leave before the game even gets started. Then a third person leaves. And, before the last player on the other team can leave, the game crashes...

I don't understand how so many people will just leave games so often. I am assuming it's because they don't like the map or game type.

It is no different than Halo 2, although when this happens in Reach you are certain it is from someone leaving. Halo 2 had a "Blue Screen of Death" where you'd be suspended in the "Reconnecting to Host" screen and upon re-entering the game discover you were A) By yourself B) 20-30 points behind the other team or C) Ejected from the game. On top of that Halo 2 lacked a veto system and was also filled with multitudes of other kinds of cheating I would say Reach is definitely not the worst matchmaking experience. It is the community more than the system that ruins the game which is an unfortunate quality of Halo online multiplayer.

I definitely have to echo that sentiment. I was so excited for the new voting system when I was reading the previews, but in practice it just doesn't work well at all. It almost seems as though people get disgruntled when their choice of map/mode doesn't win, and they end up leaving out of spite. I have had instances in which nearly my entire team left on Invasion. In one particular instance, I was the sole player remaining on the Elites. Needless to say, it didn't go well...

This has already been mentioned before in this thread, but being able to join games in progress like in Call of Duty wouldn't be bad in my humble opinion. I know that some people don't like that feature, and I certainly understand why (i.e. in 95% of instances you join a team that's getting decimated), but perhaps if they just gave people the option of joining games in progress, that might alleviate the problem to a certain extent.

Over 1800 replies and I haven't given my two cents? :p

I'm really starting to enjoy this game. The group of people i'm pair up with are still a decent challenge for me, i'm not looking forward to the people who absolutely rape at this game :(

Just gone through two team slayer matches where my team bailed on me. 4v1 is not fun.

Same thing happened to me today, and another time the entire opposing team quit.

I still absolutely hate the bigger variants of the game modes. I've been playing quite a bit of Rumble Pit and the smaller scale slayer, and it's far more team-oriented than the big battles. The big battles (and Invasion) are just a complete mess, and it's pathetic how exclusively it relies on vehicles.

Can't wait for 343 to take over.

I did not like this game, the single player was ok but the multiplayer sucked due to the rubbish banning system. I have be banned serval times for quitting because I have had to go out. Bungie need to stop trying to be so autocratic.

Good, I love bungie for this. btw, several times?

I have been banned three times, these bans are only short but I still think It is stupid. Some people have lives and have to go out to do things, then come back and find they have been penalized for not playing the entire match. Maybe after nearly living in their big office 24/7 they have lost touch with the rest of humanity and have forgot people still need to live their lives, hail medal of honor.

I believe you only get banned for quitting three times, and then it's a short ban or something.

Not that i am condoning this but you could just betray someone on your team and get booted. It does not count as a penalty for banning.

    • Well, it's good to know that they have found a workaround to a problem that they helped create, I guess...
    • Meta is reusing old DDR4 RAM in its servers instead of buying new hardware by Ivan Jenic Image: Meta The global hardware shortage isn’t exactly news, as the entire world has been struggling with rising component prices for quite some time now. And while big companies certainly aren’t as affected as the average consumer, even they aren’t opposed to the idea of saving a few (million) bucks. Meta appears to have found a way to spend less on new hardware while also putting its outdated infrastructure to use, essentially killing two birds with one stone. The company has built a custom chip that lets it reuse memory from retired servers rather than buying new hardware. The chip is called Vistara and allows for connecting old DDR4 RAM from obsolete servers into new servers that rely on DDR5. The problem Vistara solves goes back to a basic mismatch in how long hardware lasts. Meta replaces its servers every three to five years, but the memory modules inside them are good for seven to ten. When a server gets decommissioned, perfectly usable DDR4 RAM goes with it. Meta is presenting the new method at today’s ISCA symposium, but The Register has got hold of a paper that explains how Vistara works. It's a custom ASIC that bridges DDR4 memory to newer processors via aCXL 2.0/1.1 interface over PCIe Gen5 x16. Meta pulls DDR4 sticks from old machines and installs them in dedicated units it calls MemServers, each of which pairs 768GB of DDR5 with 256GB of recovered DDR4. The operating system sees the DDR4 as an additional memory node and draws from it when the primary DDR5 is running low. Off-the-shelf CXL hardware couldn't do this, so Meta built its own. Existing interfaces bundle their own memory with the controller, which makes reusing old RAM sticks impossible. But Vistara separates the controller from the memory entirely, so Meta can plug in whatever DDR4 sticks it has on hand. Meta plans to deploy the new architecture in hyperscale infrastructure with millions of servers, which should mean that Meta’s AI datacenters will now be more efficient. The company is investing heavily in AI infrastructure, especially with its new AI model, Muse Spark, now widely available. All of this doesn't mean that Meta will exclusively rely on "recycled" RAM, but the company is still looking at considerable savings at scale.

    • I like Tidal, but it still does not control devices from the mobile/app and still no surround support. And yeah re: above comment I still get a lot of network errors and I am on a 4/4 Gbit Fiber connection.
