First map pack next month, 3 maps for $10. Looks like the same sort of crap maps in Reach. Sigh... was hoping for some quality maps. Even Halo 3 had quality maps!

Definitely passing on this. 3 maps that are going probably be forge haven maps? No thanks.

Give me something like the Pit or Guardian and maybe I'd be all over it. Otherwise no wai.

Not to mention, I think all previous Halo map packs were 3 maps and 800ms points, so it should come as no surprise.

Yeah, you're right. I suppose I should have checked this before running my mouth about Activision starting a trend, lol :p .

Heroic Map Pack and Legendary Map Pack. Both 800 points for three maps.

The Pit would be great. King of the Hill on that map was a favourite among everybody in my group. Personally, I would also like to see Epitaph/Epilogue make a comeback as well. I don't know if anybody else feels that way though :).

When I was in my MLG phase, KOTH on the Pit was amazing and intense so I def agree.

And.. yeah I think I'd rather play Headhunters in FFA than have to play Epitaph. I hate that map with a passion. That map + doubles has made me rage more than I ever have in my life.

I wish they add Longest, Damnation, Prisoner, Hang'em High and Wizard with exact same layout and same weapons placement. Screw the weapon balancing and heatmap stuff that bungie likes to boast about.

Those maps were fun then and will be fun now in Reach (especially with fall damage back in gameplay).

What gets me is they only bothered to add one invasion map. I really wish they would add more. Its a good gametype that deserves more attention. Either way, 800 points for 3 maps is borderline an Activision move charging 1200 for 4-5 with 2 being remakes. Too pricey for such little content. Going to have to pass until a price reduction or I just may never get them.

And on a worse note, Bungie will probably pull the same stupid ****ing move making certain playlists unplayable unless you buy the map pack. When that happens, no more matchmaking for me.

First off it has always been $10 for the map packs since Halo 2, and they have always been 3 maps. Not sure why you're comparing that to being an "activision move" when that has been the norm for about six years. Second, the map packs usually drop in price. Last, Bungie always makes a playlist for the first month or so which includes only the new maps and at least keep a few playlists which do not require them. They only become required when a new pack is released and the old packs are shifted from the new maps playlist and replaced with the latest ones. Anyone who has played Halo 2 or 3 knows how this works and it should not come as a surprise in the slightest.

@Dhan - Seeing as it is their last game, they should at least pull 4-6 maps from each previous game to remake. I personally want to see Waterworks and Containment make a comeback as well as Terminal, Headlong, Burial Mounds and possibly Turf. I would also like to see the maps you listed.

Not to mention, I think all previous Halo map packs were 3 maps and 800ms points, so it should come as no surprise.

Entirely IMO: Most of those maps at least had interesting layouts. This seems like the exact same kind of style the other Reach maps have been, and as most of the community agrees, they're not that great of maps.

I always waited for those to drop in price anyway.

So my mate has had his level reset to recruit. It's really funny because he was talking all day about how he won't get caught and getting 60,000 XP in a day 3 days running isn't that bad.

He was on Major Grade 2 as well, haha. I'm horrible.

I'm actually really looking forward to these maps. I like invasion, so adding a new invasion map already makes it a winner to me. I think Tempest looks like it'll be pretty fun as well. The first will probably be cool too. At least they appear to be real maps and not just forged maps (some of which are ok). I just get tired of looking at the same ol' textures everywhere when I play a forge map.

Good god, me too! It might just be my least favorite Halo map of all time, and that is really saying something with how many maps there are for all 4 games.

If it's more rank-based ones, I'll rage. Epic obviously didn't understand that's not what gamers want, so hopefully Bungie gets it.

I'm not too concerned on the rank based achievements it's the competitive mutliplayer I'm concerned about.. lol.. I am just that bad @ Halo

I stand corrected on calling it an "activision move". Even so it is and always has been too little content for too much. Its just much more noticable on Activisions part as they threw up a $15 dollar pricetag when their standard for MW1 had been 800MSP ($10) for 4 maps, all of them brand new. one extra map tacked on doesnt justify the $5 pricetag hike, especially when 2 were remakes from a previous title. The maps may eventually drop in price , as in the past they have, but there is no 100% guarantee they will. And your last point is completely moot seeing how games like Call of Duty can manage to add DLC into the game without completely neuturing the online component for those that choose not to buy it. MW1 and MW2 always made DLC optional and if one person in your lobby did not own the DLC it disabled the maps from even showing up in the playlists. World at War while still optional was slightly different. It would still throw you into games with the DLC maps but it was not required to play. All you have to do is either vote for another map or back out and complete a new search. This wasnt ideal but it still did not force the DLC on you in order to play the online component. I see no reason why Bungie can not implement something of that nature. And if they don't, then I am done with matchmaking. It affects no one but myself. It is just my personal opinion on the matter. I never stated once it was a surprise either, just an opinion on how I disagree with the way Bungie does business on DLC.

At least the community I have been playing with likes these maps more. But I guess that is to be the case, many people play with different people.

Edit: Halo Reach Sales

Halo Reach sells 3.3 million units in two weeks, in just North America

http://www.joystiq.c...reaches-upward/

Must be about 5.5 million worldwide in 2 weeks. blink.gif

http://kotaku.com/5665438/halo-reach-rank-cap-should-be-lifted-in-november

Reach cap will be lifted when 117 million daily and weekly challenges are completed.

Pretty much guarantees the next achievements will be rank-based, IMO, given the DLC comes out in November. Lame.

My group was playing this yesterday, and I noticed that they updated the playlists. This could very well be old news, but I'm quite happy with the changes. Team Snipers, Infection, and SWAT have all been segregated to their own playlists, and now you don't have to worry about getting those modes anymore when you play Rumble Pit or Team Slayer. Definitely a step in the right direction :).

Here are the new playlists: http://www.bungie.net/stats/reach/playlists.aspx

I was playing with some friends (split screen) online yesterday and came across a TON of teams who would just absolutely abuse elements of the gameplay.

In one, the entire team utilized armor lock and hoarded the special weapons (rocket launcher and energy sword, for instance), which was extremely annoying. Armor lock is the cheapest power when used collectively. One or two guys would rush us, armor lock, then the rest of the team would rush us, and armor lock. So you never knew who was going to attack you because they took turns armor locking, and if they were about to die they'd immediately armor lock.

They were up by about 10 points on us, so we just decided to play their game and do the same damn thing. It was annoying, but we won 50-49. It's a shame we had to even resort to their technique -- I wish there was more of a rock-paper-scissors mentality to the power ups.

The spawning in this game is seriously messed up. I'm sick of spawning directly in front of someone in the other team, and it seems to happen a lot. I know it's not just me though; people on the other team spawn behind me and in front all the time.

It really needs fixing.

Could only wish although that'll never happen

Spawning system in halo has always been garbage. Other games get questionable too sometimes, MW and MW2 come to mind, but IMO I have not found one yet that has worse spawns than Halo.

Played this last night with my group. Rumble Pit is a lot more fun now that we don't have to constantly worry about ending up with Infection. Hell, I think Rumble Pit might actually be my favourite playlist, since you don't have to worry about ending up playing against some stacked team that abuses the spawn system for the entire match. Or maybe I'm just anti-social :p .

But yeah, we tried to play Team Objective after that, and the spawn system definitely reared its ugly head in. Nothing like spawning with your back turned to an enemy in one-flag CTF...

    • Linux 7.2's first release candidate gets off to a good start by Paul Hill Credit: Larry Ewing It has been a few weeks since the release of Linux 7.1, and in that time, the Linux 7.2 merge window has been open, where developers can submit their features and patches ready for the upcoming release. That window is now shut, and the release candidate phase has begun so that new features can be tested and further fixes applied. According to the founder of Linux, Linus Torvalds, this week’s release candidate looks “reasonably normal”. Although we are super early in the release candidates, this is a good sign as it makes it more likely that an eighth release candidate will not be needed. Torvalds even mentioned that the update’s stats are only larger than they really are because there was another AMD header drop with a third of the patch just being AMD GPU register definitions, which aren’t big changes but make the code contributed look larger overall. In addition to this, he noted that just over half the patch is drivers, even when excluding the AMD register dump. The rest of the changes are spread out over architecture updates, tooling, documentation, and core kernel updates. In the next week, Torvalds says that he will be chilling out, taking the week “mostly off”. Despite this, he will be reading emails and keeping up with things, so if he is slow responding, now you know why. He said he is hoping for a calm week, but we will just have to see if the second release candidate is actually like that. We should expect seven or eight release candidates before Linux 7.2 is released, so expect it around the end of August. If you missed it a few weeks ago, be sure to check out our coverage of Linux 7.1's release.
