You do know the March release is Japan only, right? Everyone else is getting it in the Summer sometime. But I'll be importing the Japanese one to make sure it's actually good. Even though I don't understand Japanese.

I will probably import, same as I did with the very first one on PS1! Chances are the PS3 version will be cheaper lol

I'd watch this one closely, I think Sony might pull a surprise or two on us. Not do a March global, but possibly a May EU, US late May/April, in which case no I won't import I'll just sit and cry in a corner looking at Japanese videos for a while.

I really do think it's going to be very close releases, Sony are just tight lipped right now as they have so much packing up Q1/Q2 they're marketing teams are taking time to slowly sort out the best solutions for everything before saying.

Look at Heavy Rain we've only just got it's EU release date slightly over a month from release, expect the same for GT5 if not closer to the date. People know it's March 25th in Japan now, that's good enough in the sense they know the game is complete for then, so Sony can take us quite close to the wire for the EU/US date announcements.

Amar's prophecies were made when GT5 was most likely getting a 09 Xmas release, although it conviently works out that March was indeed the other month that it could've been depending on how you interpreted his "12th month" thing.

I really don't think it will be worldwide cause of GoW3 in March, but I do think it'll be a matter of weeks with GoW3 hitting late March, GT5 hitting Mid April EU, late April/Early May USA - I do still think they'll be a wee difference between EU/USA.

Either way sky rocket hardware sales for these months, which will be good for Sony as usually just after Christmas things die down.

The game was actually playable in 3D, confirmed above, just in case you thought IGN just thought holding up 3D glasses to anything made it 3D... but holding them up even to 3D content is bad enough :laugh:

Nice seems to have some long straights to tear the arse out of the car.

Not too fond of it in racing games, driving in a straight line in racing games is not fun because it's ... well, a game. There is no thrill, no real speed sensation to give you that buzz in the stomach. That's where tracks with tricky corners and lots of them come into play because that's the real challenge of racing games, mastering the corners.

The Nordschleife doesn't have enough corners? lol

It does but the overall track is based too much on speed in my opinion and I've never found it that good in the racing games where it has been featured. In a real car, the track is one of the best tracks in the world by a huge margin but in a game, it's a bit bland.

I see your point, in real life, you are scared to go as fast as in a video game. You also need to get in the corners at the right speed to not kill yourself.

Exactly, in real life, the adrenaline when going fast is through the roof and you really fear for your life but you're still on a little pink cloud - It's a fantastic feeling. No game will be able to recreate that, so the thrills are quite different.

Which is why damage, both mechanical and physical is such a large addition to GT5, without it there's no "fear". Okay you aren't killing yourself in any video game, but there needs to be some downsides to your actions.

Kaz said they're still thinking about a setting of 1 hit and your cars totalled, again realistically, 70mph wall hit, you're out, 15-20mph, badly damaged possibly. I really hope even just for arcade/career and not online (probably abused too much), such a setting goes in.

While that wouldn't be fun for many, some of the die hards would love it. I'm sure professional physics/damage won't be far off the above but I still think it'll be more lenient than 1 hit KO.

I think it's alright, in real life - In games, it's like watching an oak tree grow to its full size.

Playing Gran Turismo 5 At CES... In 3D!!!

Sony's CES booth was heavy on 3D content, the current fancy of consumer electronics makers, including a playable 3D version of Gran Turismo 5 for the PlayStation 3. Does the Real Driving Simulator become even real-er when played in 3D? Well, it certainly ups the challenge, as adjusting to a 3D display while coming to grips with Gran Turismo 5's impressive driving physics doubles the learning curve. But it certainly looks 3D with the PS3 game's HUD popping against a cockpit that simulates a real feeling of depth, from the steering wheel and driver's hands displaying in the foreground, down to the 3D vents in the dashboard.

It was impressive. But it was also a little bit disorienting. That may be due to my penchant for oversteering the Mazda that was available to take for a spin. And I mean that literally, as the braking in GT5 and the force feedback from locking up the tires sometimes sent be spinning wildly out of control. Readjusting my eyes to the 3D display afterward took longer than my eyes were comfortable with.

The 3D effect was, for lack of a better word, tastefully done, offering a sense of depth to the road ahead without much in the way of technical gimmickry. But it did have a drawback, as objects far in the distance and shadows cast on the car's interior introduced a more noticeable moir? pattern effect when viewed in 3D.

As a tech demo, GT5 in 3D was interesting, even if the extra visual tricks didn't add much substance to the experience.

Sony plans to update the PlayStation 3's firmware at some point in 2010 to introduce 3D content?reps said "summer"?if you'd like to test out 3D gaming yourself. That is, if you've got the TV and glasses to go along with it...

Seems like GT5 will support it out the box, pretty big for Sony and 3D gaming if so.

Gamespot's posted five off-screen movies of the CES GT5 demo, showing the Nurburgring, the McLaren F1 in action, the Lamborghini Gallardo, Fuji Speedway racing and general cars and tracks gameplay.

The site's embed feature's either broken or it's been switched off, so you'll have to hit the links for the footage.

These videos are shot off the game's CES demo, which looks to be by far the most feature-complete playable version yet shown to the public.

Polyphony's hugely anticipated racer will release in Japan this March. No date has been set yet for Europe and the US.
