[Official] Mass Effect 2

i watched my bro play first without an me1 save and then after and there were quite a few different small things different in me2 if you played a good character in the first one.

having watched my bro play it on xbox and played maybe 1/3 of the pc version myself, i can tell you the game play is much better in me2 than the first one. leveling and gear management is so much better made, powers management and being a biotic is so much funner, hacking minigames have improved quite a bit, even farming planets for minerals has been improved. oh and no more of that god awful 6 wheeled truck(though there is a dlc in me2 with a vehicle, but it handles much better than the truck ever did)

The gameplay flaws are worth playing through for the continuation into the second game, though. It won't take long if he just does the main story, but it will all be worth it for the import.

me personally being on pc if i feel it's worth another playthrough after i finish it, i'll just download a saved game from the internet. but i'm on pc so :p

but yeah on xbox it is worth playing through for the save game import. lots of little things get added, and it gives you at least 2 playthroughs worth of playtime in the game.

I know this is the xbox 360 forum but if you have a decent computer you can get the pc version where you can download tailor made game saves to get the results you want. There might even be some for the xbox 360 for all that I know.

That being said, I still haven't finished ME2, where I played the hell out of the first one.

As long as your computer was made within the last 4 or so years it should be able to play it just fine:

  • OS: Windows XP SP3 / Windows Vista SP1 / Windows 7
  • Processor: 1.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo or equivalent AMD CPU
  • Memory: 1 GB RAM for Windows XP / 2 GB RAM for Windows Vista and Windows 7
  • Graphics: 256 MB (with Pixel Shader 3.0 support)
  • DirectX®: DirectX 9.0c August 2008 (included)
  • Hard Drive: 15 GB
  • Sound: DirectX 9.0c compatible
  • Supported Chipsets: NVIDIA GeForce 6800 or greater; ATI Radeon X1600 Pro or greater. Please note that NVIDIA GeForce 7300, 8100, 8200, 8300, 8400, and 9300; ATI Radeon HD3200, and HD4350 are below minimum system requirements. Updates to your video and sound card drivers may be required.

Thanks for the advice, guys. It never occurred to me that I could just continue with using pre-made save games on the PC version, but I think the real purpose is supposed to be for the story so I might try out the first game anyway.

I just realized that Mass Effect 1 is $29.99 while Mass Effect 2 is $19.99.

What? How is the sequel cheaper than the original?

I never played Mass Effect 1 despite all the good reviews because I never considered myself to be big on RPG games... But I'm having a tough time ignoring the stellar reviews that the sequel is getting. I'm considering picking Mass Effect 2 up (or asking for it for Christmas) but I keep hearing how a lot of the character elements and the decisions you made in the first game are ported over and effect how things play out in the second one.

Do you think I can play Mass Effect 2 without having played the first one, and not feel like I'm missing an important element?

I played ME2 before ME1. After playing ME2 through a couple times, I went out and got ME1, completed ME1 and then imported my character in to ME2. If i had to do it over again, I would of played ME1 first. Just a lot missed if you dont play ME1.

I loved Shadow Broker, thought it was well worth the points I paid for it, but I did wait for the DLC sale a couple months ago.

Are we sure that is it for ME2 DLC? I thought I read somehwere a few weeks ago that BioWare feels there is more room for DLC for ME2 and the upcoming sequel (obviously), but I can't recall where I saw it or if it was just wishful thinking?

I just remember reading somewhere that they said they'd tie ME2 right into the start of ME3 with DLC, now if shadow broker does that or not I sorta doubt it having played it.

Shadow Broker is the final DLC for the game

This will not be the last DLC pack for Mass Effect 2. (Source http://www.gamepro.com/article/previews/216370/mass-effect-2-lair-of-the-shadow-broker-dlc-preview/ )

This is only one source, but I sure hope it's correct.

Hey speaking of ME2 we're not going to get anymore DLC for it? Was the 3rd one the final, I haven't heard anything new but I expected they'd do some more.

nope lair of the shadow broker was the last one before mass effect 3

Quite a nice package for a Demo, gives you two parts of the game to play through, the first bit and further ahead which is nice.

Unless you had the 360 version next to it you generally wont notice a huge difference besides the lighting which is probably one of the few obvious details unless you really get into a comparison between them.

Other than graphically speaking, pretty much everything else is the same game play wise and works fine.

Will pick it up when it goes on sale no doubt.

I finally got a chance to download Lair of the Shadow Broker earlier this week since it was on sale for two bucks and WOW! the DLC is fantastic.

Yes, based on the story this really does seem like the connection between ME 2 and ME 3. It is a great epilogue to what is an already fantastic story. The decisions you made in both ME1 AND ME2 (whether or not you picked Liara as a love interest and what you did with the Collector Ship) tie in to some of the conversations and actions you have in the DLC. I haven't played the game since February and wow, did this DLC remind me that ME2 truly is one of the best games I have ever played.

Some thoughts:

- I guess now we know that Liara will serve as your information provider in ME3, probably replacing the elusive man as your behind the scenes advisor

- Will there be a love triangle in ME3? (Liara, ME2 love interest, and potential ME3 love interest?)

- I picked Sheppard's love interest for ME2 to be part of my squad in hopes that there would be some interaction between her and Liara. It's too bad that whomever you chose as a love interest in ME2 doesn't affect any of the conversations in the DLC, and if you picked Liara as your love interest in ME1, it just focused on your relationship with Liara

- Will the Shadow Broker's ship serve as a secondary or even primary ship in ME3? It contains all of the terminals already found on the Normandy

Bought this game when it was on sale on steam the first time and just completed the main storyline. All the issues that prevented me from playing deep in ME1 are gone in ME2. I absolutely love this game. I have 28 hours played on normal and will check out the unexplored areas and finish the side quests. Cant wait for ME3.

It might, as long as we get to keep the Normandy SR2 this time I'm happy. After spending so much time with the SR1 in ME1, it was gut renching to see it being destroying in the opening act of ME2 and now that we spend time (and effort in upgrading) the SR2, would like to keep it! ME3 is going to be epic no doubt and it's here where we should see resounding effects of the decisions we made in the previous games! saved the Rachni in ME1? they will fight by your side in ME3! depending on how you handled relations between the Geth* and the Migrant Fleet in ME2, will determine if they join the fight in ME3 and many other things...I seriously can't wait to get ME3 not only to finally conclude this epic story but just to see how decisions from the previous games alter the final outcome!

* Not to mention the Geth's strength will be greatly affected by how you handled the issue of the "heretics" in Legion's loyalty mission, plus it can backfire on you....i.e. if you let the heretics live (i.e. you "brainwashed" them) but are unable to stop the Quarian's war on their homeworld with the Geth, you *might* of just handed the Reapers a massive army! the endless possibilities are exciting!
