[Official] Mass Effect 2

I didn't realize that Soldier was such a popular choice. I guess people like their guns more than biotics or tech powers.

And yeah, that stat about people finishing the game 20+ times is pretty nuts. I don't think I would play through any game that many times, regardless of how much I enjoyed it the first time around.

Im shocked by the stat that around 50% of the people who started the game finished it. What about the other 50%? Who can stop playing such an amazing game?

People who dont find it as interesting? I am certain that some people would prefer farmville over mass effect :D

But it's a sequel, I doubt many would pick it up without knowing what to expect.

I am pretty sure there are plenty of people who disregard whether its sequel or not and get something anyway, only later they find it's boring or confusing and leave it alone. And thus we find such high numbers of people who dont complete games.

How long is it?

Can you have Liara in your Squad?

It really depends how long it takes you to beat the enemies and the boss fights etc, around 2hr's or so I'd say? I didn't actually pay attention to the time it took me because I didn't jump right into it (did 2 firewalker levels I haven't done yet, still have a few left heh). As for the 2nd question, I can't answer that without spoiling things for you.

So that means: It depends ;)

Finallyhad a chance to play the latesr dlc. And wow it was good! Me3 will be even more interesting with shadow broker at your side.

Btw is overlord dlc any good?

The other 2 DLC are more "side-missions" compared the the 3rd one. Here's hoping we get more that advance the story as well, since those are the better type to get.

So i tried overlord dlc as well. Loved it's ending.

Stolen memory wasnt bad either.

As for hammerhead missions..wasnt much impressed.

Anyone find it weird 'storywise' that after starting a new game you can do the Overlord DLC before you go and get the Hammerhead

Yeah :D But then again you find it on the planet :D

It's new on PS3, it will be full price. Although I don't care what system they come up with to try and replace it, importing your save from ME1 was a cool thing and it's a big loss for PS3 players, some of the personalizations are minor, but it's still nice.

I never played Mass Effect 1 despite all the good reviews because I never considered myself to be big on RPG games... But I'm having a tough time ignoring the stellar reviews that the sequel is getting. I'm considering picking Mass Effect 2 up (or asking for it for Christmas) but I keep hearing how a lot of the character elements and the decisions you made in the first game are ported over and effect how things play out in the second one.

Do you think I can play Mass Effect 2 without having played the first one, and not feel like I'm missing an important element?

Well, as it's part of a trilogy you'll be missing a fairly large chunk of the storyline. That said, even though I liked ME1, I LOVED ME2 so whatever works

Both of them were finished extremely quickly though. The only thing I really didn't like about ME1 was starting the storyline as a veteran soldier who couldn't shoot, the RPG mechanics just seemed awkward at first.

The storyline in the first one is IMHO better, but gameplay mechanics has been really improved in the second one. You could play ME2 without playing the first one, but I would advise against it (the first one is probably cheap nowadays anyway).

RPG in ME is not really noticeable. I didn't play at the highest diffuculty level, but had no problem in progressing with all characters set to auto-level. Occasionally you have to change armors/guns etc but its not really annoying.

You will get a larger sense of amazement from the second game if you have played through the first. Nothing beats seeing your decisions you've made come back to impact the story. Not to mention some "wow" moments would be lost if you did not know how it tied into the first game. Just give the first a play through (skip any side missions if you just want the save to be completed), it won't take that long.

i watched my bro play first without an me1 save and then after and there were quite a few different small things different in me2 if you played a good character in the first one.

having watched my bro play it on xbox and played maybe 1/3 of the pc version myself, i can tell you the game play is much better in me2 than the first one. leveling and gear management is so much better made, powers management and being a biotic is so much funner, hacking minigames have improved quite a bit, even farming planets for minerals has been improved. oh and no more of that god awful 6 wheeled truck(though there is a dlc in me2 with a vehicle, but it handles much better than the truck ever did)

    • Surprise! We still can't get it right. With the current state of AI, the crappy software, the huge mega-corporations that back all of these idiot things, I think we are a very long way away from SAE Level 5. I, for one, will never get in one.
    • Nice. September/October GA?! I'll keep following it, but won't install any preview or beta versions.
    • Wow, that could have been dangerous, certainly not ready for these things. They have to be 100% or pretty well close to it. Not that I will see one i doubt, never mind ride in one, they may have them in London, but I doubt they will come to where I live.
    • Nothing kills CMF Phone 2 Pro's successor due to rising memory prices by Hamid Ganji Storage and RAM prices have been rising over the past year, leading to a significant increase in the cost of electronics for customers around the world. Many companies are now revising their plans for upcoming devices due to higher component costs and overall production expenses. CMF is the latest company to cancel the successor to one of its best-selling phones due to rising memory prices. CMF is a sub-brand of Nothing and focuses on making budget smartphones for growing markets. The brand launched the CMF Phone 2 Pro last year with some eye-catching specifications and an affordable price. While many customers may have been waiting for a successor this year, one of the company’s executives has announced that CMF will not release a new smartphone this year. And AI is to blame. As Nothing co-founder Akis Evangelidis announced on X, the company has been working on a successor to the CMF Phone 2 Pro, but with current memory prices, it cannot “build a phone that feels like a genuine step forward at a price that makes sense for CMF.” So, no new CMF phone will be launched this year. Meanwhile, Evangelidis said the company still has several new products in the pipeline, including some in entirely new categories. He added that the Nothing brand will also continue launching new products through 2026. Budget smartphones are among the first victims of the surge in RAM and memory prices, as they have become more expensive to build. The sharp increase in memory costs could also reshape the traditional price ranges associated with budget phones. Apple CEO Tim Cook also recently said that price increases for some of the company’s products are unavoidable because RAM and memory have become significantly more expensive this year. Analysts estimate that the base price of the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro could rise to $1,399 due to current market shortages.
    • Nudge me when they bring back hardware audio acceleration so I can get my EAX 5 back. We've evolved graphics to real-time path tracing, but regressed audio some 15 years back in time with this stupid software audio stack.
