I'm the only one who don't like the new theme?

Recommended Posts

From my point the old theme (Finity) has been ten times better.

i'm losing my interest with the new theme.

We appreciate the feedback but it's more helpful if you explain why you don't like the new theme :)

I don't see a big difference between the old and the new one...The only downside of the new overall look for me is there's no thread update on the top of the page...You must open that spy thing to see what's going on...Well, this sucks

I'm reminded of one of Mr. Spock's admonitions to Capt. Kirk in the "original" movie series (now that Star Trek has been rebooted) -

"The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. Or the one."

If a majority like the new theme (and I include myself in that majority), then the few need to accept it. If they can't get used to the new theme, or have some other reason for not liking it, there are plenty of other sites on the Web. Nobody forces anybody to come here.

It's posts like this that put less active members off. The fact that you have a higher post count than another member does not give you the right to talk down to them for doing nothing more than expressing their opinion.

That's the reason why I voted in that poll Neobond posted to remove the post counts and the join date. Too many people get bashed and their opinions discounted because of it.

Read the posts, no one discredited his opinion on the theme - I was making fun of his comment about "interest" which is useless and just a bit of drama.

don't be so butthurt guys :)

I agree. I've learned to accept his want-to-be-witty negative posts. Give him credit for always leaving himself an escape route to take after ever comment. It's only by accepting that, that I'm able to post anything in the gamers forums.

I could see new-comers turning away by the stench of his aftershave. One has to wonder, with this quality of countless posts, how many have turned away already?

It can be quite contagious too. It's no wonder why NW's numbers are down.

Edit: I also voted to hide post counts or anything that can influence an 'e=peen'.

Noo, please don't lose interest - You're such an active member.

Well said Frank! So true!

Back on topic:

I have to admit I really do not like it at all! Perhaps over time I will change my mind. I find it slow and cumbersome, It does not render correctly in Maxthon (IE is OK) I hate using Firefox but I have to use it now if I want to come to Neowin.

I miss quick edit since I always mess up my posts the first time around :)

Also, dunno what multiquote is all about, sometimes I just want to highlight once sentence of a previous post why can't I just highlight a line of a post and press quote and have it start a new post with that line quoted? Maybe it can but I'm too stupid to work it out I dunno.

Apart from that I think it's great, also speed has shot up dramatically in the last hour, indexing all done?

Instead of the distracting red banner I think it should have a tiny green symbol by their name or even just say online under their name in small text. I don't know but I really doubt most people care whether someone is online or not anyway. :)

I'm a bit of a minimalist, so I do miss some aspects of the old theme, such as the more compact look of comments (avatars are a form of bloat imo, despite their uses), simple boxes, and less liberal use of gradients. I'm also not really liking the "Online" strip next to usernames--it strikes me as too invasive, given the dimensions and colour. I also think it's inconsistent to not also have an equivalent "Offline" tag.

EDIT: Ok, after just a few minutes of use, I think the use of gradients is really too much. It gives the forums an unecessarily chunky, rounded, and bloated feel. This is a classic case of "just because you can, doesn't mean you should". But like I said, I'm a minimalist, so you may not agree.

Neowin uses IPB3, which pretty much has 'bulky, bloated and rounded' everywhere you look: http://community.invisionpower.com/

It's just how a lot of modern websites are looking these days. I personally like it. I see Atlas as a more compact, slimmer version of IPB3.

I found the new theme to take up too much space at times, there's a lot going on that I just don't care for. BUT - I will hapilly write that off as "not liking change". I recognise the new theme to be amazing and will hapilly play :)

I do hate the online strip. It looks cheap and tacky, and the red color clashes with the entire site.

Completely agree. Something less evasive and more neutral looks way better.

I made a quick draft of something, and here how it looks like (it works great on all color schemes).

That looks quite good actually. Much more subtle than the current online indicator. You should show that to Timan.

Me too. I'm not a great speller anyway and I always see something wrong that needs correcting. I want quick edit back.

As for the theme, I am not into themes. I really don't care one thing or another.

yea, i prefer finitiy, too...

*sigh*

@meph: IMHO reputation is something else than agreeing.

I think the team would appreciate some feedback though. Cause you never know, you might see a finity redux appearing if theres enough interest.

I have to admit that it's starting to grow on me. My biggest criticism is how the forums fill to the browser window width. I don't run in a maximised browser window now, and still each forum post's text spans too great a stretch horizontally. There are design fundamentals on the optimal number of text characters per line, which the forum design isn't following. I'd suggest running the forum at a fixed width instead.

    • BetterMediaInfo 1.0.0 by Razvan Serea BetterMediaInfo is a modern, open-source graphical user interface for MediaInfo, designed to improve metadata inspection workflows for audio and video files. It extracts and presents technical parameters such as codec profiles, bitrates, resolution, frame rate, stream ordering, and container-level attributes in a structured, readable layout. The interface is built with clarity and responsiveness in mind, supporting drag-and-drop functionality. It preserves the full feature set of the MediaInfo library while making the data easier to parse for users working in media management, encoding validation, or post-production environments. In short, BetterMediaInfo takes the power of MediaInfo and makes it much easier to use. Whether you're checking video quality, verifying audio settings, or just curious about a file's details, it gives you clear, organized info without the clutter. Requires Microsoft Edge WebView2, which is included in most Windows versions. BetterMediaInfo 1.0.0 changelog: Added an Image stream table to the card view and detail view, including type, color space, resolution, and size fields. Added View settings to toggle Image stream tables in card view and detail view. Added BatchMkvMerge to the welcome page with localized descriptions and a GitHub link. Added a portable 7z archive to the Windows release artifacts. Improved first-run language selection by detecting the system language and saving it to configuration. Updated Italian translations. • We wrote about it here https://www.neowin.net/news/browser-vendors-pen-open-letter-to-microsoft-saying-enough-is-enough/ the open letter itself is here https://browserchoicealliance.org/open-letter/
    • Someone forgot to mention EDR in the title ? I think I will not click anymore on the articles written by this author. All are click bait.
    • Browser vendors including Chrome, Firefox, Brave, and Vivaldi have jointly written an open letter to Microsoft saying enough is enough regarding Edge being pushed on Windows users without consent. Microsoft makes it difficult to change the default browser, promotes Edge throughout Windows 11, and has made the uninstall process unnecessarily complicated compared to other apps. Does anyone have more details on what exactly the open letter demands and whether any regulatory action is being considered? Also curious whether this could lead to antitrust investigations similar to what happened with Internet Explorer back in the day. Would love to hear from anyone following this closely.
