Fail.

That had me and all of my friends laughing our asses off. Like really... Seeing the collision from the other side was a better angle, and almost looks like it was intentional, haha. That moment, and Crosby flying headfirst into the net provided a little bit of comic relief to ease the tension. And although Brodeur's actions were stupid, you have to admit that baseball swing was kind of cool. The poke check was utter fail, though. Hell, that's how I play goal, heavy on the insane poke-checks, lol.

The weird thing is, we're not like the Russian team where every one is trying to be a one man star. The lineup chemistry is just horrendous. Some of the team is playing well, but the only ones I am confident in at this point are Iginla and Heatley... Maybe Crosby, but it almost seems as if he is afraid of the puck or something. At this rate, I think we're screwed. The game against the Swiss was a bit of a test to get the lineups working, but considering they are still whacked, I don't believe we have much of a chance against Russia or beyond (because yes, even with Marty in net, the Germans are going to be crushed).

We'll get it together.

I know these last couple games are extremely embarrassing, but I believe Canada will beat Germany and then Russia.

We have the lineup to do it, and this game against the US was a wakeup call. Luongo has to be sharp, he's the man now, these next few games are the most important in his career to date.

That being said, we need to make some adjustments. The 'choke' line as I like to call them, some other people call them the 'shark' line has to either pick it up or sit on the bench. I know Heatley has scored a few but Thornton as always seems lost when it counts and can't bring up his game to a higher level.

Babcock has to shorten the bench, and that means giving Pronger and Niedermayer LESS ICE TIME. They are lost out there too. Crosby is playing fine, he's just getting better as the tournament progresses, but for Pete's sake get him some more playing time! I'll stop being a coach from the couch, but seriously, we need to play with more desperation and drive, because that's what the American's just had, and beat us.

Updated: 8.2 Million Watch USA vs. Canada Hockey MSNBC; A Record For the Network

Definitely the best hockey numbers for a while and better than last year?s Stanley Cup final game 7.

via NBC:

8.2 MILLION AVERAGE VIEWERSHIP FOR WATCH USA-CANADA HOCKEY GAME ON MSNBC: An average audience of 8.22 million watched the USA hockey team defeat Canada, 5-3, nearly matching the best average viewership for a program on MSNBC. (Election Night Coverage, 8.23 million on Nov. 4, 2008).

The hockey game on MSNBC received a national household rating of 4.3, the third highest-rated program in MSNBC?s history behind the Democratic Presidential debate (2/26/08, 4.9 rating) and the analysis following the debate (4.4 rating).

From Fred Farrar in the comments (I can?t explain it since not even any single program had 8.23 million though perhaps some 30 minute period averaged that many?:

Interesting that NBCU is now claiming MSNBC had 8.22 million viewers for its election coverage back on November 4, 2008.

Here are the overnight prime-time Nielsen cable news numbers:

CNN: 12.30 million viewers

FNC: 9.04

MSNBC: 5.89

Update: an explanation of the 8.23 million via Media Week:

MSNBC?s Sunday night delivery marked the network?s largest sustained audience since it launched in 1996. On Nov. 4, 2008, MSNBC drew 8.23 million viewers with its coverage of Sen. John McCain?s 10-minute presidential election concession speech, which aired from 11:19 p.m. to 11:29 p.m. EST.

The game went a lot better. Although a lot can be attributed to Germany just really being a crappy team (they have sadly gone downhill over the past few Olympics), the team chemistry is lowly coming together. I've been wanting that Crosby/Iginla/Stall line since last week to be permanent, and tonight demonstrates why it should stay that way. Offensively, yes, we played very well. Defensively, we are still all over the place. What the hell was up with that 2-on-0 breakaway at the end of the third? Niedermayer and Pronger played better, but still nowhere near their talented legacies. As for goal, Luongo is no more better or worse than Brodeur, he just doesn't make those stupid risks that Brodeur does, which resulted in at least two of those goals versus the US. The first German goal was just a really weird play in general, and blame can't be placed on any one player, just the entire way that line was disjointed and fell apart. The second was not Luongo's fualt at all, and was just a really mistake on the blueliners.

All-in-all, I think we finally have our act in gear, and although I am far from being comfortable to say we will win against the Russians, whatever the outcome, will be a damned exciting, and very close game.

5 minutes in, Canada avoids an embarassing fast first goal like the Americans gave them less than 2(?) minutes in. Instead Canada gave the Russians that same treatment. (Y)

    • +1 for Rufus. I bought NTLite a few years ago to scrape all the bloat out of Windows 11. It is not a perfect solution as there is a steep learning curve if you don't really know what you are doing (me included). I have finally got a Windows install that just works. I only keep things I use and nothing else.
    • Personally ive been using searxng, self hosted, although there are public instances out there too (https://searx.space).  Its shocking when I occasionally go into google or bing and see how bad they've become in the last year
    • You guys claim everyone you don't like is Hitler, so you've already ruined that. Boy who cried wolf and all that.
