The series is called Game of Thrones, the night king is a external threat but the whole overarching plot is who gets the iron throne, if anyone.    The night king was never going to be the final boss.

Spoiler

Fair point. The books are "A Song of Ice and Fire" though, so that kinda forged my expectations. The Night King still kinda went out like a bitch, so it'll be interesting to see them spent the rest of the episodes basically on Cersei.

The books and show are entirely different beasts now.

I was also disappointed with the Night King overall. He really had no substance, just a Big Bad to stab. Not even much in the way of mythos behind him. They could explain more of why he/they want to destroy life, they have very little background, and he just kinda dies, end of story. I thought he might be more involved in the greater story with the Iron Throne... it seemed like the bigger threat to "existence" was the whole "army of the dead from beyond the Wall". So far this makes the entire Watch seem less important. Also, the Dothraki are less than important. How Westeros-centric of them.

... does this mean that Cersei is a bigger badass than the Night King?

Spoiler

Just realized Cersei has green eyes....

Blue eyes- Night King

Brown eyes - Walder Frey

I think she will end Cersei...unless she had already fulfilled the prophecy of killing blue, green and brown eyes.

I liked the episode but kind of lame no main characters died in that nightmare of a battle... Seemed only a few secondary characters kicked it. Although I guess Jorah was kinda big.

Is that it for the whole white walker story line, seemed kind of abrupt.... I think I'll be disappointed if they don't touch on that story more.

Yea, got my characters mixed up.

I think it's clear that the books are going to do their own thing at this point.

Interesting theory, and there are fans who expect it'll be Arya killing her using Jamies face.

Regardless, I heard a pretty good explination as to why they did the Night King now and not for the end.  The way the sides were set before this battle, Dany had way more power, even with the Golden Company she would've won easy in a 1 on 1 fight with Cerseis forces.   By doing the Night King now, her side, is at a dissadvantage, numbers wise.  It ups the drama for the last 3 episodes and makes the "final" battle higher stakes again.   Doing it the other way around would've made Cersei going out anticlimactic like some say the Night King felt in this ep.    I think the fans will get more of a pop from seeing Cersei die at this point compared to the Night King or anyone else.

And come on, how can the fight for the Iron Throne not be the final fight in a show titled "Game of Thrones"?

Definitely. It diverged a while ago. But having the entire structure change is a bit jarring. It is easier to establish things like lore and motivations in books, and easier to do dialog and character interactions in video.

Never read the books so I have no frame of reference to go buy.  I am just enjoying the show.  I am thinking we will see more of Bran in the next few episodes.

I want to read the books after I've finished the show. Not the usual way round to do it.

Spoiler

Anyone else see this theory that I hope is true because it makes things make 1000% more sense?

at the undead dragon to distract it so Arya can run past and kill the Night King. The undead dragon was protecting the entrance to the Godswood.

Watch it again, you can actually hear him scream "GOOOOO - GO - GO".

10 seconds later the scene you can see the hair of a White Walker flying up when Arya sprints past the group of White Walkers.

Jon once again was ready to sacrifice himself to kill the Night King.

Neowin ate my last reply, so this will be shorter

Explains the questions we have about Job being useless, how Arya snuck up, what Bran was doing... we lose track of Jon and Arya between the library and end. We can only assume Bran's powers. If it was foreknowledge or time travel... he may have done what he needed. The entire plan was him being bait. We also don't know what he did while warging.

Yeah, I like that and it would be interesting if they explain events in a later ep.

Spoiler

When Bran was warging at first it looks like he's just looking at the battle to take record but he's doing it up to the very last minute basically.  So I like the theory that there's more to what he was doing than just watching things play out.

^ I don't buy it.

Spoiler

Viserion was busy just destroying everything ... I don't think he was "guarding" the entrance to Godswood.

Arya is a quiet assassin but somehow needed Jon to yell "Go Go" so she could sneak past a big dumb dragon?  I actually think Jon just ran out ideas ... a way out of the situation and was just like "fudge it", yelled out in frustration/anger/etc playing no relevant part in Arya killing the Night King.

Arya's path to killing the Night King started in the first season.  So no, Jon didn't play a role in this ... Bran, Meli, the training and of course the script led to Arya's heroic arc IMO

All valid points.   Arya killing the Night King though IMO probably rules her out of being the one to kill Cersei with Jamies face, as one fan theory goes.  I don't think they can give her two big kills in this story.

I think Sansa should kill Cersei really.  That would be great for the crap she put her through.

Spoiler

As far as Arya and Jon telling her to go go go, I watched YouTube clips and I am not convinced he is saying go at all.  More like Bran did a psychic bond and told Arya where to go.

Spoiler

Poor Gendry. Saw that coming.

Did NOT see the Golden Company coming. Did they regain the ability to instantly travel hundreds of miles again? Some kind of "3 days later" text would help. It is getting lazy.

Everyone is trying to predict who will take the Iron Throne, but a lot of the people predicted don't want it. Of course, that doesn't mean they won't be stuck with it. Personally, I'd like to see Sansa win with Arya as her enforcer behind the throne, but I don't know how likely that is. I really don't get why anyone would think Arya would take it. She'd totally vanish if anyone tried to give it to her. A lot of those people only started liking her recently (specifically, last week), and they'll forget her soon. Sansa is the only person she'd stay for, other than that, she's a ghost. I don't think the end will be Dany v. Cersei, that is too obvious (and I don't like either of them).

Two episodes left. I don't expect a big battle again, despite the armies. People will not be happy about this episode, BTW. We had to say goodbye to a lot of characters and do for episodes 5 and 6 what 1 and 2 did for 3, though. Think 6 will be an epilogue?

Spoiler

When Rhaegal fell I had to pick my jaw off the ground ... was not expecting that.  Was thinking this would be a "reset" episode.  Dany has been a woeful tactician when it comes to her dragons.

Knew Missandei would die once she got captured.

Pretty good episode ...

Spoiler

I woulda bet money on Cersei pushing her off that ledge. She was doomed the moment Grey Worm didn't die.

I'm a bit confused, though. Dany has like 20 Unsullied. She really isn't very good at this. Also wondering how she got there. No one saw her ships coming after Greyjoy teleported back?

yea, they are taking some liberty with timelines and movements.  It was a bit jarring (not in a good way).

I just want Arya to cut Cersei's throat.  Probably won't happen ...

Not really a Dany fan anymore (been making terrible decisions and she thinks to highly of herself) ... I want Jon on the throne.  Probably won't happen either.

Cersei will probably prevail ... giving the ending no one really wants but will talk about.

Arya has played her role. We'll see her again, but not ending the fight. She's just totally not built for court life, no way she'd hang around AGAIN. She's already peace outed.

A spinoff series of Arya adventuring after GoT ends would be cool.

I want Euron to die more than Cersei. She's evil, he's just a dick. Yara will pop up. Good god, we're going to rely on Greyjoys.

Edit

Spoiler

Also, the Cleganes probably need to settle up, so we'll see him and Arya. If the Hound and Mountain don't meet, it'll be a huge letdown.

You have to wonder if they're not doing all this as far as Dany goes so they can get rid of her and the fans won't be up in arms over it?  If more and more people slowly end up not liking her when the time comes etc, they can more easily off her.

    • I use it by choice but only for specific tasks that I have forgotten and it's quicker to ask then spend time wasted finding a decent answer on Google or coding a certain language. I prefer to use it. I do think that as it gets integrated into everything, when we eventually fully rely on it, I'm talking new gens not older gens like me, that we won't think for ourselves, I mean we will become lazy thinkers, lazy logical answer to problem which will go badly. But if we don't become fully dependant, we might be OK but I don't think personally we are going to be OK, not for the newer generations. Unless they advance in that space to the next level of intelligence where it can work out its own problems and create ideas for itself.

Instead of manually rechecking options after every Windows update, users can set their preferred privacy configuration once—or apply recommended settings in a single click—and the tool continuously monitors them in the background.
