I tried DX9 and I seem to be getting better performance with DX10 (DX10.1?). Anyway, does anyone know if the beta supports DX11? I'm interested to see the image quality benefits.

So I went ahead and pre-ordered the game this evening. I told MW2 back and got trade in value @ Gamestop and they have a pretty nice pre-order special.

For a limited time, you can get the Battlefield Bad Company 2 Limited Edition for thesame price as the regular edition. Supplies are extremely limited. (That's why they call it a "Limited Edition.") So reserve it now!

Early access to squad rush? Looks like you get the same things with the Steam pre-order, minus the squad rush MP game mode and AKS-74 assault rifle.

yeah I am wondering what the Squad Rush is all about.

yeah I am wondering what the Squad Rush is all about.

Ok found some info on it.

DICE has provided a bit more info regarding the recently rumored BFBC2 Squad-Rush mode. It's a pretty simple concept, Squad Rush puts a squad of four players versus another squad of four players for 8v8 action with just one crate and two bases in an infantry only version of the Rush game mode.

That's all very interesting but something they tucked into the blog post announcing this is a little annoying and only specific to North America. Gamers in NA only get access to Squad-Rush mode if you pre-order from GameStop because they have a limited-exclusive deal to keep this for their customers only for 30 days.

Of course it gets a bit confusing because if a friend has it they can drag you along with them even if you don't have it. Weird arrangement.

PC gamers can grab Squad-Rush at launch (download) for free and without a GameStop pre-order so that's cool.

Sauce

HOLY COW is it just me or does that map they show in the video look strangely like the main map played in the COD World At War beta/game?

Also, so I can invite you guys who DIDN'T get it from Gamestop into the game with me to play in squad mode.. So thats cool, but uhh whats up with them saying "Squad Rush puts a squad of four players versus another squad of four players for 8v8 action" uh that would be 4v4 action there.. NOT 8v8

This Squad Rush is truly an example of a bad pre-order bonus. To offer an entire game mode as an exclusive for 30 days is just bad, bad, bad. I am glad I will get it on the PC for free, and as you pointed out SMELTN we can join you, but this is just a bad thing (but I do not think you are a bad person FTR, it is not your fault at all, just wanted to state that for sure). Exclusive weapons, etc., I am fine with that, but a whole damn game mode, one I am interested in on top of that, well that is just not cool.

See I agree with you guys 100%, but at the same time whats the difference between this and a release on one console before any of the others type thing? I am against exclusivity entirely, but truth is it works to boost business and until it doesn't companies will continue to do it.

Don't expect the performance issues to be fixed during the beta...

@repi:

@armerius Yeah that sounds quite normal, the CPU is the bottleneck. We have more optimizations coming in after the beta

I may have played a little too much of this beta. :pinch:

LOL Not sure why you say that, but I know why I have not played it since last week myself. I tend to get real burned out on a game if I just play the same map over and over, and since I love the game I did not want to run that risk so I may touch it a few more times before release, but really I am just waiting for the full game. Besides that I have Bioshock 2, Aliens vs Predator and Heavy Rain all coming from Gamefly over the course of this month, so those games along with MAG should definitely keep me occupied until the full retail version of BFBC2 hits.

yeah I quit playing myself just to give it a break so I don't get burnt out now.. I have been playing Tiger Woods Online and :gasp: watching Desperate Housewives with MY WIFE!!! OH GOD PLEASE RELEASE THIS GAME NOW!!!

Same, it's beginning to grate on me now. Stuck at a certain level, people camping same spots and exploiting map terrain. It's a all a bit- Yep. Need retail. Like now. :D

It's a mixture of playing it too much, running into other plays that played it too much (exploits, etc), and just plain boredom. It's the same thing over and over again. I should have paced myself, but it's too late for that. I'm burnt out on this beta. Mass Effect 2 will have to keep me busy until the game is released.

Totally OT, but I am pretty much addicted to Tiger Woods Online right now. I am Level 11 now. I do have some beefs with it, like the fact I will never, ever be good enough to get any piece of the Tournament pot as scores like -22 are just absolutely insane and crazy, but overall I love the damn game. If they make it a reasonable price, I will definitely get it. I play it on my laptop whenever my wife watches something on TV I am not into, I have a bluetooth mouse for my laptop so that makes it so much better. Basically I love it and it is definitely by far my favorite time killing web based game ever.

Sorry for going so OT. BOT, Yeah, I really want the retail version of BFBC2, no doubt about it.

I preordered this game yesterday. It is strange that they will not charge me until the game is released, but I guess I cannot complain.

How long did it take you guys to receive your beta key? I ordered mine from Gamestop and the site says one business day after you order it. So hopefully I will get it today. I want to play! Rawr.

The game seems to be lagging pretty bad on my system. I think it's the gpu that's the bottleneck, but I'd like to get everyone's opinion before I drop the cash. My specs are phenom II x4 810, 4gb ram, 9800gt.

Ya the GPU is the bottleneck for sure on your system since your running a quad. My quad Phenom II 940 operates at about 75% ish while playing & I have a 4870. I would suggest to you and everyone here is to go to your my documents and find the BFBC2 Beta folder and open up the steeings file and change it from Dxlevel=auto to 9 and take bloom off for sure. Just an FYI though when you run dx9 level you are restricted to only running AA at 1x but thats just for this beta build, retail will let you use whatever you want. After I did these 2 things I jumped up 40 frames and the game because much more enjoyable.

Also with dx 9 and running steam you are able to shift+tab to bring up the steam overlay, but DX10 it is still buggy and will just lock your screen without showing the overlay. My opinion is to just run DX9 as it seems for me to fix alot of the bugs.

DICE actually confirmed there will be no AA in the final game for directx9.

Antialiasing in BC2 is only for DX10 & DX11, we won't & can't add it to DX9/XP

Well, the Frostbite engine supports DX10.1/11 so I would assume it's supported in the game (beta) as well. Of course, it'll only work with ATI video cards (unless you're using the few NVIDIA cards that support DX10.1).

    • Spotify really have turned in to a butthole of a company. Assuming this isn't a bug then this is a low act for Premium users. Honestly, YT Premium which includes YT Music is a genuine alternative. In any event, the internet enshitification continues unabated...next up, the banning of VPN's.

    • A 13 billion year old secret about our Universe's origin was revealed by Sayan Sen Image by Pascal Küffer via Pexels Researchers at the Max-Planck-Institut für Kernphysik (MPIK) in Heidelberg had recreated a key chemical reaction from the early universe, producing results that could change scientists' understanding of how the first stars formed. The study focused on the helium hydride ion (HeH⁺), which is widely regarded as the first molecule to form in the universe. Scientists believe HeH⁺ appeared around 380,000 years after the Big Bang, when the universe had cooled enough for electrons and atomic nuclei to combine into neutral atoms in a period known as recombination. This marked the beginning of chemistry in the cosmos. Immediately after the Big Bang about 13.8 billion years ago, the universe was extremely hot and dense. As it expanded and cooled, hydrogen and helium became the dominant elements. Once neutral helium atoms formed, they could react with ionised hydrogen nuclei, or protons, to create helium hydride ions. Although simple in structure, HeH⁺ played an important role in the young universe. It was the first step in a chain of reactions that eventually produced molecular hydrogen (H₂), a molecule made up of two hydrogen atoms and now the most abundant molecule in the universe. Molecular hydrogen later became a key ingredient in the formation of the first stars. At the time, the universe had entered a phase often called the cosmological "dark age." Matter had become transparent to light following recombination, but there were still no stars or galaxies producing visible light. Several hundred million years would pass before the first stars appeared. For those first stars to form, large clouds of gas had to collapse under their own gravity. To do that, the gas needed to cool by releasing energy. While hydrogen atoms can help with this process at high temperatures, they become less effective below about 10,000 degrees Celsius. Molecules can continue the cooling process by releasing energy through rotational and vibrational motions. Scientists have long considered HeH⁺ a potentially important coolant because of its comparatively large dipole moment, a property that describes how electric charge is distributed within a molecule and allows it to release energy efficiently. The amount of helium hydride present in the early universe may therefore have influenced how easily the first stars could form. At the same time, HeH⁺ was constantly being destroyed. Under primordial conditions, its main destruction mechanisms were recombination with free electrons and chemical reactions with hydrogen atoms. These reactions ultimately helped produce molecular hydrogen, linking the formation and destruction of HeH⁺ to the chemistry that shaped the early universe. For many years, theoretical studies suggested that reactions between HeH⁺ and hydrogen atoms would become much slower at low temperatures. Scientists believed there was an energy barrier along the reaction pathway that reduced the chances of the reaction taking place in the cold conditions of the early universe. The new study suggests otherwise. To investigate the process, researchers recreated a closely related reaction using deuterium, a naturally occurring isotope of hydrogen that contains one proton and one neutron in its nucleus. When HeH⁺ collides with deuterium, it forms an HD⁺ ion and a neutral helium atom. This allows scientists to study the reaction in a controlled way while closely mimicking the behaviour of the original reaction involving hydrogen. The experiments were carried out at the Cryogenic Storage Ring (CSR) at MPIK, a specialised facility designed to recreate conditions similar to those found in space. Researchers stored HeH⁺ ions in the 35-metre storage ring for up to 60 seconds at temperatures just a few kelvins above absolute zero and merged them with a beam of neutral deuterium atoms. By adjusting the speeds of the two particle beams, the team measured how the reaction rate changed with collision energy, which is directly related to temperature. The researchers found that the reaction rate remains almost constant as temperatures decrease. In other words, the reaction does not slow down at low temperatures as earlier models predicted. “Previous theories predicted a significant decrease in the reaction probability at low temperatures, but we were unable to verify this in either the experiment or new theoretical calculations by our colleagues,” explained Dr Holger Kreckel of MPIK. “The reactions of HeH⁺ with neutral hydrogen and deuterium therefore appear to have been far more important for chemistry in the early universe than previously assumed,” he continued. According to the researchers, the reaction appears to be barrierless, meaning there is no energy obstacle preventing it from taking place efficiently even at very low temperatures. The findings support recent theoretical work led by physicist Yohann Scribano, whose group identified an error in a widely used potential energy surface, a mathematical model used to describe how the energy of a system changes during a chemical reaction. The error appears to have caused previous studies to significantly underestimate reaction rates under primordial conditions. The new calculations closely match the experimental results. Together, they suggest that helium chemistry in the early universe may need to be re-evaluated. Because molecules such as HeH⁺ and molecular hydrogen played an important role in cooling primordial gas clouds, the findings could help scientists build more accurate models of how the first stars formed. By showing that helium hydride was likely destroyed more efficiently than previously thought, the study offers new insight into the chemical processes that shaped the universe during its earliest stages and helped set the conditions for the emergence of the first stars. • "What an interesting smell you've discovered"
    • It could EASILY be 70 for the base game BUT + lots of FOMO to make it up to 100-120, like a few days Early Access, online money, pre-order bonus cars, weapons, missions, clothing, avatars or profile stuff, etc... And still WAY TOO MANY people would buy those and make Rockstar insane money.
