Well glad to say the new patch fixed my crashes to desktop. Had a massive session last night and I really started to enjoy it. Only problem was the server was being flaky and restarting all the time.

I hate the fact that newbies like me are being owned by guys who are at much higher levels than me. I mean the top most used gun last night on the server must have been that M60. If I was truly a noob to this type of gaming I would be put off and wouldn?t play again.

I have always been against persistent unlocks, and would much prefer a game that rewards you for skill. Not the amount of hours/points you can rack up to unlock the good stuff.

That being said, I intend on logging in tonight and carrying on having fun. At the moment I am still learning the game/ropes. But with all my old fragmates from ET:QW, it has just become like the old times

The grenade launcher is the ultimate avenger in this situation. Learn to aim and pick off targets quickly with it. When I finally got logged in after that launch fiasco I ran in to a number of 10+ rank people already.

Leveling up in BFBC2 is much for a challenge that other FPS's I've played. MW2 is so candied up and such 1-man army type game, there is no 1-man army in BFBC2.

I agree. I've found some old friends in game and we've had tons of fun.

The client update isn't up on Steam yet: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?p=14026311

I just went to the folder and ran BFBC2Updater.exe.

Funny.. I was thinking of getting that exact same processor.

everything i have read on it says it's a great CPU. keeps up with the i7's and when you overclock it (which is does amazingly well on stock cooling) it surpasses them. Stock it's 2.8 ghz, you should be able to hit 3.4-3.5ghz without issues... no voltage modding is needed in most cases too.

Wait, you can do that with the Steam version? I thought the game was updated through Steam. Actually, I'm pretty sure the game is updated through Steam.

EDIT: I was right. The Steam version doesn't have "BFBC2Updater.exe".

Wouldn't be caught with a nade launcher dead - never mind playing with it. I class it as a noob weapon :p

Only thing keeping me playing this is my fragmates. Had a one trying to knife me, whipped round and nailed him in the head. Ahhhhh let the good times roll...
i just bought a q9550 for this game, hopefully it improves the FPS by a nice margin...

I've got the Q9450 @ 3.6 Ghz OC. The Q9550 should OC past 3.6 easy!

I don't supose this game has a ingame FPS display does it? Think I might have to download FRAPS, and what about screenshot taking facility - F11/F12? Or is that FRAPS too?

It doesn't? That sucks. What I originally did was copy the "retail" version to my steam folder so that I didn't have to download 6gigs again, and verified the files.

Nupe, steam will automatically update your game when the update gets pushed to steam. :)

    • Looks like the 7.1 is fake effects, can it at least do real 5.1? It says 'virtual 7.1' in all descriptions.
    • You can't, if you didn't notice, it doesn't support surround at all, it's right in the spec list.
    • Hi — I’m always interested in soundcards. Like displays, I just want to know I’m getting as much clean “sonic juice” into my brain as possible as the years take their toll. I’m not entirely sure what to take away from this review, though. It doesn’t really tell me whether the AE‑X is a good product or who it’s actually for. Most of what I’m getting is: there’s a driver to install, here’s what it looks like, and here’s what’s in the box. There’s a lot of emphasis on the SPDIF input. When you mention not needing to switch headphones between console and PC — does that mean the PC has to be powered on just to pass audio through? That seems like a fairly big waste of energy. Is this more something a streamer would use alongside a capture card? How are you testing the sound? (Also, you might want to clarify that you’re using the headphones in wired mode when you mention they’re wireless.) You mention the lack of EMI shielding — how much real‑world difference does that make compared with typical motherboard audio? On multi‑channel: what exactly isn’t supported? Does this mean Windows spatial audio (Dolby Atmos for Headphones, DTS Headphone:X, etc.) won’t work, or just that the card itself doesn’t decode surround formats? And are there any true multi‑driver “surround” headphones left that would even use that? You also highlight support for high‑impedance headphones — but what does that translate to in practice? How does it compare to driving the same headphones from a normal device, and does it make any difference for everyday, lower‑impedance models? In short, who is this card actually targeted at?
    • Yes, THIS is wordart, not the styling that can now be done. Wordart was all about those curvy words, that you could change the path of, like making words go around a circle. I don't think it can be done now, right?
    • Just saw a news report of a Waymo driving into a flooded road.
