Scorbing
As much as I like Apple, I think these prices are absolutely outrageous for the hardware you are getting. gdodson
They're not that outrageous if you price out a similarly spec'd business level machine from any other leading OEM. Also consider the premium placed on the unibody casing and the very large capacity batteries. -KJ
You buy a Mac for the software, not the hardware. It's funny, because I really want the MBP for the hardware. Absolutely beautiful and solid machine. It's a joy to work on. I don't care for their OS, though, and I don't feel the hardware alone is worth the premium in price... then again, I'm a frugal guy. You are paying for the engineering. No different than lower-powered Mercedes Benz being priced higher than a top of the line Hyundai. Both have an engine, a steering wheel, four wheels. The latter might even have more bells and whistles. But you don't question why the Benz is more expensive. So why question the Mac? Tech Star
It was recently shown that a PC with the same specs as a Mac would cost about the same price. So no, it's not "outrageous and simply out of order". Do it for yourself if you don't believe me. Spec a Dell to the same specs as a MacBook and see what the price difference is. So no, it's not "outrageous and simply out of order". Must be comedy night; lots of people making funny posts. I once saw the above comparison, but it was comparing dual-processor Mac Pros to similar-configuration Dell Precisions. Not exactly the right way to do it. It's a simple fact that Macs are more expensive. Quillz
If you don't want to pay the price for Mac hardware, don't buy it. Simple as that. Complaining on a message board won't lower the price. If you wanted to get the OS, you get a hackint0sh, and as a bonus beable to get a much better system plus Mac OS software for alot less. There is no excuse for such stupid prices. zhangm Supervisor Posted April 28, 2010 Supervisor Share Posted April 28, 2010 How about inferior specs for a 40% increase in price? I specced out a highest business-grade machine to the same price (1792$). Better screen. Better warranty. Better build (yes, it is a Precision). Higher weight. Thicker (it is beastly). On top of that, you can get a 12% educational discount, so in the end it turns out to be a fairly decent deal that is guaranteed to work for the next three years. If it breaks down, a tech will arrive within 48 hours and replace things until you're back up and running. No offense but you call my comment BS and then talk about Hackintoshes? OSx86 is illegal, too hard to set up for average users, requires constant tinkering and can stop working altogether with every little update. Some of us don't use computers to surf porn in our mother's basement. We work for companies where things have to be legal, have to be stable, and ideally require as little time for maintenance as possible. Apple thinks everything is illegal nowadays. http://lifehacker.com/348653/install-os-x-on-your-hackintosh-pc-no-hacking-required - Installing it pretty as well, if you print out a tutorial and know what a "BIOS" is. They are pretty stable as well, just watch what you install.. it doesn't even require much maintenance as well. For home users and about 70% of business users, hackint0sh's are a better choice then buying Mac Hardware. Neoauld
My buddys hackintosh costed half as much as a mac, runs just as fast. Id rather run linux than MacOS myself anyways. Theres absolutely no value in a Mac imo, its all about looks and 'coolness'. That and, i think just about anyone in the IT world just laughs at them due to the ripoff they tend to be. Oh and, theres always a catch with them. From a moral standpoint to, Apple is easily 2x as evil as MS ever was, and the fanboys love them for it. LOL.. let's get real here I specced out a highest business-grade machine to the same price (1792$). Better screen. Better warranty. Better build (yes, it is a Precision). Higher weight. If it breaks down, a tech will arrive within 48 hours and replace things until you're back up and running. Why are you pricing business class laptops? I don't understand.. you are trying to pump up value on top of it.. Go and get XPS laptop from Dell and see how much it costs you. That Dell will be the same quality as Apple laptop as they use the same parts. With business laptops a lot more goes into the price that has nothing to do with hardware. They install certain things, they give you much different support, warranty and so on.. you have them 24 hours on call and they come to your house etc etc..not to mention that laptop has FREAKIN 800-series QUADRO FX in there. That thing costs an arm and a leg. That's why businesses buy these laptops not individuals. Mac Books and Mac Book Pros are nothing but regular cheap laptops with some gimmicky unibody thing that does more harm then good considering you can't replace batteries and so forth. Don't be silly.
