McAfee have fixed the issues in the new release, Mozilla has blocked everything older than the latest release.

the mcafeee bug has been reopened.. apparently it isnt blocking a certain version.. the wait for release continues..

DirectWrite isn't disabled by default, unless there's an issue with drivers or such causing Firefox to blacklist your hardware.

As for DirectWrite and Direct2D, eventually every browser will be using it, the benefits far outweigh personal opinions against it.

You're right. In turns out that all Catalyst drivers before 10.6 have been blacklisted. It's unfortunate for me because I can't update my drivers past 9.7 on my Dell Studio 15. I guess I could manually enable Direct2D font rendering but I'd hate to run the risk of crashing my browser.

Yeah, try the "reference" drivers, I never bother using the drivers provided by the manufacturer.

I've been using Chrome since it's conception and have been dealing with the poor LogMeIn plug in support. I have tried Firefox 4.0 RC with IE Tab 2 and it works great. Now that I am using Firefox, and having been used to the easy transitioning from non-Incognito to Incognito in Chrome, it is unbearable and borderline unacceptable that when you enter Privacy Browsing in Firefox that it converts every tab and window to Private Browsing reloading all the pages. I can be listening to Last.fm and suddenly want to start a private session. Now I actually start up Chrome's Incognito so I don't have to reload Last.fm. Unacceptable if you ask me, what about everyone else?

Also I completely agree with one of the links on the front page:

When closing a tab, other tabs should not resize until the cursor leaves the tab toolbar.

I've noticed that for quite some time while using Firefox 4 betas (and now the RC), that when I open a PDF in the browser, I lose the ability to type or perform certain actions in the browser. I cannot type in the address bar, search box, or in any other text field that may be available in another tab until I close the PDF tab.

Is anyone else experiencing this or is it just me?

I tried running with addons disabled and the problem still exists.

I'm guessing it's a problem with the Adobe Reader plugin and the new version perhaps?

Do not. I repeat do not use Adobe Reader to view pdf files. Use a better safer alternative like Foxit , PDF-XChange, or Sumatra PDF. The lightest of the bunch would be Sumatra PDF but you don't have to use it.

Yeah, bummer. I always have at least to profles (I have 3 now, RC,Nightly,Test). Based on what I need to do privately, what I do is to fire up one of my two profiles and do private browsing there.

Personally, I like how Opera handles private browsing. Just put in on a single tab.

Yup, try other pdf plugin. I have foxit and I don't experience that problem. Just read the installation carefully to avoid installing that nasty ask toolbar (do they still have that 'uncheck and decline to avoid' crap?).

I don't know, I think it's based mainly on user's experience. Something does not feel right with webkit. Don't me wrong, I do think it's the fastest (haven't tried IE9), but for some reason, I find gecko faster.

So far Firefox 4, with PDF-XChange to open pdf files in the program itself, is the fastest for me out of Chrome 10, Opera 11.01, and IE9 not that it matters though. All of the latest browsers feel very close in speed so no matter which one someone chooses to use you never loose much speed. Chose is all about the features and look you want now.

I don't know, I think it's based mainly on user's experience. Something does not feel right with webkit. Don't me wrong, I do think it's the fastest (haven't tried IE9), but for some reason, I find gecko faster.

Well it's definitely down to preference I guess. I dunno, FF used to be really great, but I feel it's fallen behind everyone else now. The UI is looking pretty dated as well. I hope they can make a comeback with the next one, but this release just isn't doing it for me. At all.

Opera 11 is my #1 BTW.

What I like about firefox though, is that even if they put up a horrid UI, they allow you to customize it through userchrome.css. But yeah, some users aren't into tweaking and would want an out-of-the-box perfect UI for them. That's not gonna happen, I think opera and firefox is fine for those who want to customize.

I think the new UI is awesome, and probably won't change a thing from default. Sorry you don't feel the same way =/.

i think we misunderstood each other. i like the new ui, and what i meant to say is that even if firefox, for some reason, releases a horrid ui, as long as it's customizable, i'm fine with it.

I have issues with the font on the firefox ui. It looks like crap - font smoothing all over the place. I've tried with and without hardware acceleration, as well as trying the direct2d force trick in the about:config but it doesn't make any difference. What gives?
