[UK] iPhone 4 Handset Prices Announced PAYG

Recommended Posts

  1. Apple didn’t manufacture Apple A4, it was Samsung who manufactured it. Apple designed it (source). Also, Apple haven’t said exactly what clock speed the A4 is running inside of the i4. It may have been down clocked to extend battery life.
  2. This is a curious one, as I have only seen the screen pitted against the 3GS. I can read sites fine on my Desire.
  3. Coming to the Desire, and I do believe the Nexus One already has it (via hack). But can see it coming officially.
  4. And what exactly? I have seen nothing that says that this will improve the phones reception & maintaining signal.
  5. HTC Desire has 5 MP camera…? AFAIK neither have released more details on what the lens or sensor is.

I don’t say what I say to be ‘edgy’ and ‘cool’. I say it because it my opinion. And never once did I say I was right.

I do give credit where credit is due. I give credit to the fact that Apple has pretty much imploded the smartphone market. Without the iPhone I can’t have seen the plethora of smartphones we have on the market now. Same goes for tablets devices (iPad) and media players (iPod).

What I do hate (and no I don't hate Apple as you imply) is that all logic and sense of reason go out the window when Apple are involved.

1. Thats what i meant Apple designed, its their own CPU

2. So you can read websites with small print zoomed all the way out?

browserportrait_2.png

I can barely read that on my 1920x1200 monitor let alone on a 800x480 screen. On the iPhone 4s screen text on websites zoomed all the way out are clearly legible.

3. It should be designed for 720p video capture from the start not patched in half assed later on, from what little information ive gleaned this is totally my own opinion but the iPhone 4 will have a better CMOS sensor than any of the HTC phones out now from my experience of HTC phones going all the way back to the HTC Canary in 2001/2002 with its add on camera dongle.

4. So you dont think an external antenna that runs the whole way around half of the phone wont boost reception compared to an internal smaller antenna?

5. Again in my opinion the iPhone will have a way better CMOS sensor than anything HTC has.

What vacuum of logic, sense or reason have i displayed in this thread?

Im going off hardware facts not some silly fanboy loyalism, the iPhone is more advanced than any phone on the market no matter how much you try and justify the money you spent on the clearly inferior Desire.

1. Meant and said are two different things ;)

2. In landscape mode yes, perfectly readable. Portrait no. But again, I have only seen the new "retina display" compared against the older 3GS. Nothing newer.

3. Samsung Galaxy S ;)

4. My original statement still stands, I haven't seen anything that says it will improve reception. Anything I or you say is purely opinion and guesstimate, untill we actually have facts.

5. Exactly, your opinion. Considering we don't have any hardcore facts to go on.

And I chose not to answer your last sentence/statement, because it says more about you than me :)

Edit* Forget to say, I never said you personally showed any lack of reason, sense or logic.

I dunno, what's weird is that they've pretty much stopped talking on Twitter. At least Vodafone are still talking (allbeit giving the "We dont know when" line).

Hang on, there is this page if that is what you are looking for?

Edit* No it isn't. Just a very generic table of price plans. Nothing in-depth like Orange's.

http://iphone.orange...ans/#iPhonePAYG

So £480 on Orange PAYG.... that's not £450.

Considering you have to buy £10 top up with the phone that means it's £490 and then another £10 charge on top to unlock the phone straight away and it's £500. So it makes sense getting it from Apple.

I don't think you have to top up £10, looks like it's included to me.

Also is the 'Monkey' tariff new, it gives free streaming music & texts.

Has to be said: told you so :p O2 will no doubt have a P&G price up today or very soon too.

If they ask me to buy another sim with it though I'll explain I'm already an O2 customer and they can phone to check with them  Either that or I'll make sure I buy from my mate in the Apple Store :p Also, with Simplicity on O2 you can unlock iPhones for free using their request site

Oh no, you've saved a whole 10 quid buying a locked payandgo from orange :p >.>

O2 prices are much better than Oranges (contract) - especially on 18 month tariffs.

Agreed, Oranges 18 Month Contracts are shocking! I went into my local Orange Shop this afternoon (as I have a contract with them at present) and asked them about what the situation is with the iPhone 4 on the 24th with them, can I pre order one on PAYG?! Will they even have any PAYG handsets in?!

All I got was that they are opening at 8am and probably best to come in then as they don't know anything at this moment in time........

Btw, I have decided I'm buying a PAYG iPhone 4.

Pay & Go tariffs

You may know this, but you don't need a monthly contract to get an iPhone. iPhone 4 will be coming soon to Pay & Go but it won't be available at launch. When we have more information on pricing we will let you know.

    • The memory and nvme can be swapped and upgraded with standard parts. But the GPU cannot, which is the weakest part of the box. It's a dead product at these prices.
    • Sounds like the debloated build you are running is missing some components that the Photos app and Snipping Tool rely on.
    • Apparently, Microsoft doesn't use water in their taps, washrooms or clean their facility. /sarc
    • Wow, throwback.  VERY VERY briefly - but realised that it wasn't the language I needed for the tasks I was taking on.
    • Apple and Tesla trade secrets reportedly exposed following a Tata Electronics cyberattack by Hamid Ganji Image via Depositphotos.com Tata Electronics has confirmed that it detected a cybersecurity incident in some of its systems. The Indian company is a manufacturing partner of both Apple and Tesla, and the incident may have exposed some trade secrets belonging to the two American companies. The World Leaks ransomware group is said to be behind the attack, and it has reportedly posted up to 200,000 files on the dark web, including component designs and specification documents related to Apple and Tesla products. Tata Electronics told Reuters that its response protocols were deployed immediately and that the “incident has had no impact on our operations across businesses, which remain unaffected.” The ransomware group reportedly sent a ransom demand to Tata Electronics, while Apple has launched an investigation into the incident. World Leaks claims it stole more than 200,000 files totaling over 630GB from Tata Electronics. Some database files on the ransomware group’s website are titled "com.apple.factorydata," which could refer to Apple’s iPhone production operations in India. Moreover, some documents reportedly contain material specifications and quality inspection standards for iPhone circuit board components. However, Apple is not the only affected company. A folder found in the World Leaks database is titled "NV36 Chargeport Controller - North America," which may refer to Tesla Model Y components. Additionally, other files in the database reportedly contain drawings related to Tesla’s Project Highland, the internal codename for the EV maker’s updated Model 3 sedan. To support the authenticity of the stolen files, World Leaks has published documents containing footers that read: "This document contains proprietary and confidential information of Apple Inc." and "information contained herein is deemed confidential, proprietary, and a trade secret of Tesla Inc." Cybersecurity researcher Rajshekhar Rajaharia told Reuters that the database also contains emails, event logs spanning several years, and passport copies of employees, including foreign nationals. Both Tesla and Apple have declined to comment on the scale of the incident.
