I'll admit that the PC version looks the best, but that is supposed to make me want to get into PC gaming? Or negate my choice in console gaming instead?

Neither :)

I just downloaded and played the Xbox 360 version. Boy am I disappointed. I really feel like it's an unfinished game. The amount of screen tearing and jaggies is horrendous.

I have to admit though, the art direction is pretty good, and it does take away from a lot of the graphical blemishes. Based on the comparison vids, it looks like the ps3 version isn't much different.

Aside from the graphics, my biggest complaints are

1. The camera is just way too close to your character and really gets in the way when there's a lot of action on the screen

2. You can't just move back to get out of cover mode and you actually have to hit the cover button again

Aside from those two, the gameplay seems really smooth

I am still excited to play the full game though. I've been waiting for this game for quite some time now

----------------

the "simulation" mode for car is fun :D

My likes:

  • the bribing system :p
  • cops going after other peds
  • cops giving warning for small fights, instead of straight to - arrest.
  • nice big city :D

Dislikes:

  • still no swimming, well atleast he doesnt drown :p
  • no horn :o
  • very limited camera views :(
  • not happy with combat mode (its more like batman AA), should'nt go into 'always locked-on' mode in fights.
if not for always locked-on mode, we could create a riot by beating peds

Press E for Horn

And I agree with your likes & dislikes. :p

lol, they've added the GTA SA's feature

if you bump a ped car onto cop car, the cop starts chasing the ped. lol

too bad, the peds in car dont die when crashed head-on at high speeds :p

I also noticed while robbing the diner, that when the police came they attacked those who protected the diner and not me, that came to rob that place; Which left me a clear escape route

Hmm, I wonder if there will be a release with all the packs? I've got mine on pre-order from Steam (Mafia II: Digital Deluxe Edition) which has the Man Made Pack.

Which is just one of many:-

Not to mention the DLCs:-

  • The Betrayal Of Jimmy (PS3 Exclusive)
  • Jimmy's Vendetta

I really want to pre-order this game but the ridiculousness of all the different game versions with different extras is really bloody annoying!

Why can't they just put all the damn extras into one box and be done with it? Just means I'll be waiting for the goty version or whatever, so can I have the game as it is supposed to be.... Without bits cut out!

Anyone download both demos (PS3 and 360). Holy crap the PS3 version got the shaft. The damn grass is missing too!

I think both consoles got screwed. I've played the 360 and PC demos now and it's clear that this was designed for PC then poorly ported to the consoles, it's just not optimised at all. I'm no graphics ###### and I gave up on PC gaming long ago for the convenience of consoles but the technical issues with this game are really bad and distract from the gameplay. The low res and jaggies, the tearing, the poor frame rate and textures, etc just put me off completely. Mafia is my favourite game of all time and I'd preordered the 360 SE version but thats now cancelled and I'll go the PC route.

My PC isn't great but it stills runs perfectly smooth at 1080p with everything high (Physx off).

I've been reading that the console demo's are really beta versions of the game, that were before E3. People are saying that in the final version, there is grass on the consoles. They are saying that the 360 is a little more smoother, where as the ps3 has more defined textures.

It looks DAMN nice on my system and runs like a dream..

what are you specs and settings?

downloading the DEMO :D

i hope the physx tweaks work for me.

i wana run it on 1920x1080 with physx got a GTS 250..

my system runs batman AA WITH EVERYTHING FULLY MAXED about 35 fps.

http://www.nvidia.com/content/DriverDownload-March2009/confirmation.php?url=/Windows/9.10.0513/PhysX_9.10.0513_SystemSoftware.exe〈=us&type=Other

is supposed to help the game with physx on, as well as there is an update to the game that's supposed to help physx performance.

i'm going to try these later tonight before i reduce settings further, both with my ppu on and off.

based on my small amount of time with the game, it doesn't seem very well optimized for PC either, at least with physx on. will try the physx update and game update tonight and see how it runs.

Graphically it SHOULD be:

1. PC

2. PS3

3. XBOX

In that order, but instead Xbox looks better then the PS3 version imo.

this isn't the only game that looks better on the xbox than the ps3. i'm no expert but i believe it has to do with the APIs available to either console, not so much how their respective hardware performs on paper.

Why should it be in that order?

Should be:

1. PC

2. Xbox/PS3

The PS3 is the more powerful system, along with Blu-ray it can have higher res textures on the disc.

The 360 does have some advantages but looking at exclusives for PS3, (Uncharted 2), this game should look brilliant, but it doesn't even have grass.

there is no way this could be a final or even a almost complete demo lol. If it is, the ps3 is getting horribly shafted. Everything was a horrible undetailed mess. I can see this being a late alpha or early beta, but nothing close to what the final will be like.

And I agree on the camera. Way too close. I couldn't find the phone for a good minute because I was always 1 foot away from the back of my head and running into walls trying to dodge items below my view point.

I will wait for the game to come out and see what reviews look like. But I just really doubt this is a close representation of the final product.

    • Waymo recalls self-driving software after cars enter closed freeway work zones by Paul Hill Waymo, the self-driving car maker owned by Alphabet – the parent company of Google –, has recalled some of its fifth-generation Automated Driving Systems (ADS). It did so after some of its cars drove through closed construction zones. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the affected vehicles were capable of driving through a closed freeway construction zone and continuing to drive at speed. The listing on the NHTSA website says that Waymo is currently developing a solution to fix this issue, but in the meantime, freeway driving is being restricted. Waymo will update its ADS software so that vehicles can detect when they can avoid entering construction zones. According to the Safety Recall Report, on April 20, 2026, Waymo’s Field Safety Committee began meetings reviewing an event from April 11, 2026, and five events from April 19, 2026, where Waymo’s autonomous vehicles didn’t recognize and drove past ramp closure signs into the pre-planned freeway construction zones. This took place in Phoenix, Arizona. Separately, on May 18, 2026, seven Waymo vehicles entered freeway lanes with active construction in the San Francisco Bay Area by driving between cones that were placed to show the lane was closed. On the back of both of these events, Waymo restricted freeway driving until it could address the issue. In June, Waymo’s Safety Board reviewed the issue and additional information related to ADS performances around construction zones; then, as a result, it decided to conduct a recall. This development is not good for Waymo as it adds to a growing list of technical hiccups its cars have experienced. Ultimately, it will lead to more scrutiny from lawmakers around the world who will be more cautious about letting autonomous vehicles on their roads without tighter regulation. For readers in areas where Waymo operates, does this news make you more wary about stepping into one of these vehicles?
    • I'm still on Windows 10 22H2 because I didn't want to deal with all the issues in Windows 11, so I waited almost a week before installing the latest Patch Tuesday update (KB5094127), I went ahead and did it, and it was a huge mistake—ever since then, my File Explorer has seen a performance drop of about 30% when transferring large files... Once again, Microsoft has outdone itself! This update cannot be uninstalled, either through the Control Panel (via Settings) or by accessing Advanced Startup Options. The only possible alternative would be to use system restore points, but I’d have to reinstall all app and driver updates (and there’s no guarantee it would work). Or there’s the “nuclear option” of a in-place repair without losing files or apps, but even then, all my customizations would be lost! Microsoft just can’t help but mess everything up! Way to go, Microsoft! But I still don’t want your c****y Windows 11!
