Just tried the demo on PS3 and I may pick this up. Never played Mafia and I wasn't expecting it to be like GTA (which I love) but I'm def. digging it. Debating on this game or just picking up the liberty city stories now, because I need some off-line enjoyment titles.

wats the patch??? nvidia one?

any links?

i have deleted the effects folder and all the cloth stuff except VIC..

now the main character has all the awesome soft cloth movement and no framerate drop :)

http://www.nvidia.com/object/physx-9.10.0513-driver.html

i also read on the evga forums that applying the physx patch found in the 3rd subfolder of the mafia 2 install under steam manually works.

apparently the physx patch the game comes with was not installing automatically when installing the game through steam, and so physx was using the cpu instead of the gpu or ppu. and ofc physx runs horribly on the cpu so yeah.

hey guys, try this -

1. go to any store or diner or car wash office

2. point the weapon at clerk, DONT KILL THEM, rob the cash counter.

3. after robbing the store/diner, GTFO that area quickly. coz cops will be arriving soon.

4. go back to the store again (weapons hidden), & listen to what the clerk & cops are talking.

5. If you stay near the door, the clerk will whisper, if you go near, they .... find it out yourself

really cool stuff.

Also, if you kill the clerk, get out of the area & come back, you'll find the shop has been closed for CSI :D

Quite enjoyed the demo. Weighing up the different pre-order options. Think I'll go for the Game one. Got a ?25 Amazon voucher incoming early September, so I might hold off until then (this is also dependant on me not wanting to get something else from Amazon I've got my eye on though :p).

Thanks a lot for this. (Y) Hoping it will also help me out. When I enabled PhysX on Medium, frame rate went from around 30-40-24, so I disabled it, although my card supposedly supports it. So will check it out.

PC versions looks great though, and the game-play seemed really damn good. I was actually a fan of the first one, also played that on PC, so this game is definitely now way big on my radar when before it was just a blip, and I am pretty sure I will be opting to play the PC version. Basically if I can have better looking visuals, why wouldn't I. I am the first to say visuals do not make the game, but when the option is there to have it look better, then why not.

Took some screens as a friend was curious to see how it looked compared to the console version...

How much does having physx even effect the graphics in this game? Once again it seems mostly a gimmic. I have an ati card and have it off and it looks amazing, and the explosions and stuff look like the promo screenshots and vids I've seen, and the pillars break apart in gunfights and such.

Doesn't effect the graphics whatsoever, it adds some minor physics based features like your coat moving 'realistically', an explosion will blow it aside and objects with interact with the cloth. Also, there's added

debris when shooting out glass and other objects, although that looks like the typical PhysX debris; crap. It doesn't do that much to the game actually and it's just a big gimmick - I genuinely believed with all the PhysX hype

and talk it would be a significant change but it's just the same useless crap.

In the trailer they focus on the glass shattering etc. and that's not even a PhysX feature - You get that with PhysX turned off, it's just the ugly looking debris on the floor that is part of PhysX.

As others have already pointed out, it really has no bearing on graphics overall. It has everything to do with the objects, and more importantly the calculation of those objects (how they break, move, etc.), which is why it affects performance pretty dramatically.

So it turns out I already had the latest PhysX installed, so it does indeed have a pretty negative impact on my rig, so I just will not be playing with it enabled.

When will publishers start using and open stadard for physics such as OpenCL?

Open CL is not a physics engine like physx or havoc. it's a gpgpu api. it;s certainly possible to develop a physics engine using OpenCL, and last i heard iirc amd was doing just that, though we'll see how far that gets or long it takes and how good it ends up being.

Finally got a chance to play the demo over the weekend. It is very short, but very immersing and bring back the good old days of Mafia #1. It has really captured the same old feel of the world. I loved every second of it.

Just submitted a ticket to cancel my Mafia 2 pre-order with Steam.

Edit* Is it me or is there no Collector's Edition for the PC?

There doesn't seem to be a Collector's Edition on PC in the UK. Sucks. :(

    • KillerPDF 1.5.1 by Razvan Serea KillerPDF is a lightweight, portable PDF editor for Windows built for users who want full control without subscriptions, installers, or telemetry. It runs as a single executable, making it ideal for USB use and field work. You can view PDFs with smooth PDFium rendering, navigate quickly with thumbnails, zoom, and shortcuts, and reorganize pages using drag-and-drop. It supports merging multiple PDFs, splitting documents, and extracting selected pages. KillerPDF also allows inline text editing with font matching to preserve the original layout, plus annotations like text boxes, freehand drawing, highlights, and reusable signatures. You can search full text, copy content easily, and print documents with flattened annotations. Designed as a free and open alternative to bloated PDF tools, it works fully offline on Windows 10/11 x64. No runtimes install. Everything needed is inside the EXE (targets .NET Framework 4.8, which ships with every supported Windows release). KillerPDF key features: High-quality PDF rendering via PDFium Edit PDF text inline (double-click to modify text) Page thumbnails and fast navigation with zoom and shortcuts Merge multiple PDFs into one Split PDFs and extract selected pages Drag-and-drop page reordering Font matching to preserve original document appearance Text boxes for notes Freehand drawing tools Highlight overlays with adjustable color, size, opacity Undo actions and clear per-page annotations Create, draw, and save reusable signatures Click-to-place signatures anywhere Full-text search with highlighted results Drag-select or Ctrl+A to copy text Print with annotations flattened Portable single-file app (~10 MB) No installer, no admin rights required No account, no telemetry KillerPDF 1.5.1 changelog: Performance Save Flattened PDF now uses multiple CPU cores. Page rasterization is parallelized (PNG encoding runs across cores; the PDFium render step stays serialized since the library isn't thread-safe), so large documents flatten significantly faster while the UI stays responsive (#68). Fixed PDFs that failed to open with "Unexpected EOF" now open (#72). The failure was PdfSharpCore's Flate inflater (SharpZipLib) rejecting the FlateDecode cross-reference stream on multi-revision PDFs - files that open fine in browsers, Acrobat, and Foxit. KillerPDF now detects this and re-opens the file losslessly through PDFium, preserving selectable text. Thanks to @javajon for the report and a detailed reproduction. Grid view renders every page. It was capped at the first 26 pages, so longer documents stopped loading partway through. Tiles also stream in progressively now instead of blocking until the whole document is rendered. Grid Ctrl+Scroll no longer reloads every page when the zoom is already at its limit and nothing would change. Removed a stray horizontal scrollbar (a thin green line) that could appear across the bottom of grid view. Files on UNC / network shares (including the WSL \\wsl$ filesystem) are copied locally before opening, avoiding partial-read failures on network filesystems. Changed Minimum zoom lowered from 10% to 5%, so grid view can pack more columns (helpful for wide/landscape pages) and single-page view can zoom out further.
