Was hoping it wouldn't be over a year each. Blah. Oh well, I've waited 11 years or so, I can wait a few more. Blizzard has yet to disappoint me.

I was just guessing, looking at WoW as an example. They said they were aiming for a year-by-year release of expansions for WoW, but when you look at the release dates, its closer to year and a half (more or less). Blizzard will probably do the same with Starcraft 2, its best to "allow" people to gather money again and get familiar with the base game before releasing any expansions.

ok so i played the beta and was placed in copper

after launch i played one of my friends who has NEVER played before and after i let him have some fun i steamrolled him

i was away on vacation for a couple weeks and last night i logged on and i saw that he placed in platinum league for 1v1. i was pretty shocked considering he had like zero experience playing SC2

so i thought either someone played his placement matches for him or he got really good really fast

so i played him a 1v1 last night and i smoked him (and i still suck btw)

so i wonder, is it just that the pool of players in the beta was a lot better?

or the pool of players now is just so big there are a lot of noobs?

i mean... if he placed platinum i should be able to place diamond?

or none of these Blizzard rankings/leagues matter?

/confused

The Beta's players were a lot better.

The player pool is now bigger, so there are a few more million noobs playing it.

Don't worry, he'll drop out of Platinum soon. :D

Blizzard's rankings matter if you wanna play the game for money. :D

I'm getting absolutely raped online, and in the Practice League at that :pinch: I'm 5 and 23 right now in 1v1.

StarCraft is the only RTS I've ever played, and I haven't touched the game in 8 years. I'm finding it really difficult to compete against others who have a lot more experience. Kinda irks me that some people, who clearly aren't beginners, stick to playing in the Practice League.

The game is great (I'm enjoying the campaign), but it's hard to have fun when you spend 30 minutes playing only to have your entire army decimated in 2 minutes... over and over again.

That's Starcraft. If you want an RTS with long lasting units try SupCom, RUSE or even C&C. Difference is that those games aren't as micro oriented as SC2 is. One of the things that irks me about SC2 is that you have to do a ton of stuff manually, like the queen's spew larva ability. Why can't I just repeat the dang order and move on with my life? In reality if you order someone to do something you wouldn't have to shout it at them every 30 seconds.

My biggest hate/love about this game, however, is its simplicity. While on one hand it allows for a far easier learning experience the game is extremely limited in terms of how things play out. Strategies are pretty simple as well and I can already see that this game will usually come down to who's faster and not necessarily who is better. This was one of my big problems with SupCom. When the community had exhausted most strategies and boiled down to one strategy per faction the game became incredibly stale. Hopefully this doesn't happen with SC2.

Blizzard's games... Easy to learn, hard to master. ;)

he might had gotten lucky in the placement matches. my friend is a noob too and he got lucky and won all 5 placement matches and placed him in the platinum league. Ever since, he had lost all the game and he finally dropped back to gold league.

So noob question - Any 'micro' tips or good videos? I keep getting zonked by the harder AI and humans but when I watch the replay I'm usually ahead on econ and units are usually close. My fav RTS (usually prefer turn based) is the Kohan series and micro in that game was all about cycling units and specials. In SC2 specials seem more of an annoyance and any retreat seems to be treated as a route. Maybe I just miss a morale system.

For example, the harder AI absolutely rapes me with his 4x4 marine/maurader inital rush. With even forces I need a pill box to survive. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong and both units have same upgrades. Just like the enemy SCV can take down multiple units but I'll easily sacrifice 4x as many to get the same damage done.

I usually don't like vikings very much and used them purely for air defense but I decided to go offensive with them ina match today (since I had a bunch for fending off a battlecruiser attack) and they wtfpwn buildings pretty damn fast if you get a lot of them, and you can pump them out superfast with a reactor starport.

you need to concentrate fire at single unit or two and not many targets at once. you need to decrease their units, not damage them and kill later.

With ranged units, you'll want to attack the enemy units one by one. With melee units, you'll want to surround the enemy units. Also, little things like weapon/armour upgrades go a long way. In most games, people don't even get 1 upgrade for anything (armour/shields/weapons).

Free character name change / Creation of additional characters for a fee coming soon!

http://eu.battle.net/sc2/en/blog/407872#blog

The way I read it, the first name change will be free and any additional name changes will cost you a fee. Basically, it'll be like World of Warcraft.

I'm not one to usually play these types of games, but I got it due to my friends are playing multiplayer, I thought I'd join in. I'm actually really enjoying it. Terren its not to bad. I still need to get the hang of zerg and protoss. :) "well butter my biscuit!"

    • Onkyo Dolby Atmos AV receivers are really solid deals by Sayan Sen Recently we covered great deals on several soundbar models from the likes of Sony, JBL, Samsung and others for really good prices (the lowest in several months). Aside from that we also reported on the Edifier S3000MKII, a hi-fi two-way bookshelf monitor that's available for only $800. Today we bring a list of AV receivers from Onkyo that are available at great prices including the Onkyo NR7100, RZ30, and 8470 (purchase links under the specs table down below). The Onkyo TX-NR7100 and Onkyo TX-RZ30 are both 9.2-channel AV receivers designed for immersive home theater setups but they occupy slightly different tiers within Onkyo’s lineup with the RZ30 positioned as the more advanced model. The TX-NR7100 is a THX Certified 9.2-channel receiver offering up to 100 W per channel (8 ohms, 2 channels driven). It supports Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, and IMAX Enhanced formats, with flexible configurations such as 5.1.4 or 7.1.2 speaker layouts. A key highlight is its built-in Dirac Live Room Correction which should help optimize sound based on your room and its acoustics. In comparison, both models share several core capabilities though the RZ30 is geared toward enthusiasts seeking more precise calibration and system flexibility, while the NR7100 is positioned as a slightly more accessible, value-focused option with strong all-round performance. • A different thing with Russia. When you say is it better, depends on things. It is better that we don't have the E.U making rules and laws that have nothing to do with them. Is the trading part better? No, that is really mucked up, but then we knew that was going to happen and we would have make agreements, like we do with other parts of the world. Freedom of movement is certainly better, but could be improved, we still need more control over our borders. do you live in the U.K?
    • So what am I quoting from them? I never listened to what Farage or his cronies said. I wanted the U.K to leave the E.u years before the referendum and it had nothing to do with Farage and his cronies. So what country do you live in? Did we work much better together? We were always at logger heads with the E.U because we disagreed with them so much. Maggie was always on at them. I would have thought the E.U was glad to get rid of us as we stopped the integration or made it a two tier. Now without us they can integrate more. I would not have voted out if it was just a trading block and we can still work together on somethings.

    • Apple reportedly looks to blacklisted Chinese memory chips as RAM prices climb by Karthik Mudaliar Image via Apple Apple is reportedly trying to get a clearance from the Trump administration to buy memory from ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) to get some relief from soaring DRAM prices. As per a report by the Financial Times, Apple approached the Commerce Department more than a month ago and also spoke to other officials and allies in Washington. For starters, CXMT is a company that's already been placed on the Pentagon's list of Chinese military companies. The Chinese company is the country's top DRAM maker. For Apple, the timing is certainly awkward but not surprising. Tim Cook had recently warned that Apple would have to raise prices because AI companies are buying up large amounts of memory for data centers, and just like that, Apple raised MacBook and iPad prices. Micron also recently revealed that customers have committed billions of dollars to secure memory supply years in advance, which shows us how aggressive securing infrastructure has become. This gives suppliers such as Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron more leverage, while pushing hardware makers to look for alternatives. CXMT is one of those alternatives, but not the simplest one. Apple has spent many years trying to diversify parts of its supply chain away from China, especially for final assembly, while still depending heavily on Chinese manufacturing and suppliers. Even domestic brands from China are moving towards CXMT and YMTC instead of relying on Samsung, Micron, and SK Hynix. For Apple, though, it would invite more scrutiny than local Chinese companies. For now, this is more like a lobbying effort rather than a confirmed supply deal. There's no official statement from either of the parties. What is clearer, though, is the pressure behind such a request. AI demand has certainly made hardware a bottleneck, and companies are trying everything they can to bring things back to normal, even if that means making politically sensitive choices.
