Has anyone had any success in maintaining a high K/D ratio? I was at 1.84 and I dropped down to 1.77. My excuse is lag. I'm usually put into a laggy game where the enemy seems to see me before I see them. Also, rubber-banding is possibly the most annoying aspect of this game (aside from the bizarre spawning system).

I seem to be a natural at this game. I usually finish with a 3.0 + KD

What guns have y'all been using. I've been using the AK74u with a grip and a red dot site and it's extremely accurate and doesn't kick very much. I like that black ops lets you buy only the perks and attachments that you want so I don't have to spend countless time upgrading through a gun to get the things I want from it.

M14 with grip for mid to long range maps, I like the AK74u for close range.

I'm usually a shotgun kind of guy but haven't found one i like yet.

Doing fairly well so far

But that's bound to change  Luckily I'm not having many problems with the game, especially since the Locale region searching has started to work, I'm on 4 bars in 98% of my games and it definitely helps.

Oh and notice how many of my friends play HC ... >.>

FAO PC Users:

Care to post your button config?

I'm really struggling to find a comfortable setup

WASD as normal with Q+E for lean left/right

Mouse button 5 for special grenade

Middle mouse button for lethal

C for toggled crouch

space for stand/jump

Cntrl for prone

left mouse button - shoot

right mouse button - ads

Mouse button 4 - melee

5 for grenade laucher etc

6 for killstreak

Edited your quote to reflect my key settings :) this is how I play most FPS's that allow it.

I've decided to break down and go pick this up this evening. I really wasn't interested in another CoD game (skipped WaW and MW2) but truth be told, Bad Company 2 let me down so much - that was supposed to be the MP game to last me a long time. But DICE, in my opinion, fubar'ed BC2 big time. So, I'll give Black Ops a go. A few of my friends bought into CoD this time around so that will be cool to have some people I know to play with. Hopefully, the MP won't be too much of strain for casual gamers - something Battlefield has always been pretty good at and is what drove me nuts from MW1.

Ars' PC review (my fave site for vid game reviews)

Call of Duty: Black Ops PC review: CPU bound, broken online play

The Good

  • Good length for this sort of game
  • Many varied locations and weapons
  • A spot of the ol' Ultraviolence
  • Deep multiplayer options
  • A top-down shooter? A zombie game? Zork? All included
  • Solid voice acting
  • Surprisingly intriguing story
  • The many different variants of the weapons are fun to use

The Bad

  • So you can say curse words, but you can't put them in the subtitles? I'm afraid people with hearing disabilities will think people are saying %*#%& when they're actually saying (*&%@(%
  • Multiplayer on the PC is a bit of a mess at the moment
  • Still heavily scripted
  • The helicopter scenes are tricky to control
  • The plot twist is pretty easy to figure out
  • The PC version seems to be CPU bound. If you don't have a fast system, wait a bit

The Ugly

  • Kennedy always saw the Zombies coming
  • The game basically, you know, doesn't work at the moment

Verdict: Skip, and wait for news of patches

-------------------------

everything i am reading online says pretty much if you are running a core 2 don't even bother until a patch comes out. this game is HEAVY cpu bound. I personally haven't had any troubles in SP (running a q5550). haven't played MP yet though...

probably already mention, this link has some good tips

I've said it before and I'll say it again, the game is just awesome. For the first time in over a year, I'm finally having fun playing HC Search & Destroy. There's no grenade launcher use whatsoever, no cheap RPG kills, no insane quickscoping it's just pure gunplay! Oddly enough, I'm starting to finish on top in many of my matches as the power has been given back to the player instead of game mechanics. What is even more puzzling, the new claymore sounds more frustrating on paper with the instant explosions but the range seems to have been reduced and the map layouts have improved so much, the few 'hiding' spots for claymores are easy to spot.

Now they just need to fix matchmaking and the killcam, then this is above and beyond what MW1 and 2 was.

I'm absolutely **cking loving this :D

Ironed out the stuttering by enabled multithread in config and I've found my new favourite custom class :ninja: Dual Scorps with ninja, lightweight and steady aim :ninja:

I'm only level 17 though.

Only downside has been the prevalence of dropshotting :/

Oh and killing people with a remote control car will never ever ever ever ever get old.

    • Bluesky COO warns social media regulations could destroy competition from small startups by Paul Hill Fears that increasing government control of social media risks regulatory capture by the biggest social media firms were raised again recently. Bluesky’s chief operating officer said in an interview that social media bans for children and tighter regulations for social media firms risk creating a world where there are only a few social media platforms run by companies with the deepest pockets. Regulations on social media firms have been very lax since they appeared for mainstream users in the 2000’s. This gave Meta, Snapchat, and Google time to build up their user bases and get entrenched, with Meta being the most successful. Now that Meta has succeeded, it has been attempting regulatory capture. By pushing for more regulations of social media, Meta hopes to make it more difficult for rivals to challenge it. For its part, it doesn’t need to worry about the cost of regulation because it has a lot of money to spend, whereas startups do not. Speaking to CNBC, Rose Wang, Bluesky’s chief operating officer, said: “I support the protection and the safety of youth, the question that we have then is at what cost, because essentially what I’m scared of is in the long term, we’re headed to a world where there’s about three to five platforms, and extreme heavy regulation of those platforms, and basically the whole compliance teams of these platforms are 10 times the size of our entire team. So, basically, we’re living in a world where it’s almost impossible for smaller entrants to come in and build healthier spaces. These platforms have led to a place where the bottom line is the thing that drives what they do... so I understand why governments have to step in and regulate, because the platforms have done nothing right.” She said that while she is not against regulation, there needs to be more channels between the small to mid-sized players and regulators to help protect them. She says that big tech players, on the other hand, “who we know are circumventing regulation,” need to be regulated. Essentially, the Bluesky position is one of nuance, rather than absolutes. While Bluesky’s proposal may preserve competition in the social media space, it still doesn’t address the massive privacy implications these age verification measures introduce, such as handing over sensitive identity documents to access age-gated content.
