PS3 finally hacked?

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "typical calculator." If you mean it isn't a simple arithmetic calculator, you're right. But this is the same kind of calculator I used all throughout high school. The only unique thing about it is that you can use a rudimentary form of basic programming on it, using a programming language that is specific to the calculator. Having written basic programs for it, I find it extremely amazing a PS3 was jailbroken with it.\

Its not written in basic. Its a flash app.

Its written in assembly language.

Its a regular ti-84+ calculator. No modifications.

(Pretty damn sure its impossible to interface with usb from basic.)

Its funny because you can jailbreak a PS3 with just about anything now.

You're not reading my post correctly. "Basic" is a description of the type of programs (as you can't get too complicated with them), not the language (although a variation of BASIC is utilized on TI-84 Pluses, and I suppose the use of "basic" in my last sentence could have a dual meaning in that regard). It's surprising regardless of whether or not it was written in BASIC or Assembly.

So, a USB drive, a phone, and a calculator. Yup, definitely has been jailbroken with anything now!

The only devices I've seen are a USB drive, a phone, and a calculator. Am I missing something?

The calculator is the only unique device to me, because it generally doesn't hold the same kind of data you'll see found on a computer/phone, as it's almost never compatible (and, thus, never able to be uploaded). Is that not unique?

No, not really.

There's progress being made on the DS3, PSP, Gp2x Wiz and even the TomTom One.

Dingoo has already been completed.

Basically anything with a USB port & flashable USB memory is capable (within reason).

I'm failing to see why its important that its a calculator... It's a pretty damn advanced calculator to be fair but all its doing is injecting a package

Exactly, as Munky says, anything that can output via USB is most likely going to be capable of this if they can flash the hack to the product.

So much for the magical USB device that enables you to play backups on PS3, oh wait............

Just because its not here doesnt mean its not real, you dont have to be an arse about it.

Excuse me but what crawled up your ass over my frustration at the Spanish (?) website that reported this news? blink.gif Chill pill dude.

Its gone all quiet on the hack front as i thought it would do once new firmwares start to come out, unless they find an exploit in the dissasembled firmware they have then this hack is dead in the water.

Apparently the exploit was introduced in FW 2.01, and runs right up to 3.41.

    • This is exactly why I keep saying we are not ready for human free self-driving. These little "bugs" are may seem like random one-offs. There was also the Waymo that drove between police with drawn guns and the suspect they were pointing them at. From a software perspective it is easy to understand how those extremely rare situations may not have been programed for, but that is the point. If AI needs to be told to watch out for every possible contingency, then it can never be successful. There will always be the possibility of a first encounter that the AI needs to understand to avoid.

    • Recycle Bin has been broken for literal YEARS now. The setting to delete files older than 30 days from the bin which is on by default doesn't even work. I have files older than 4 months in it and they are just there still...
    • They’re really desperate to ingrain AI into society hoping to tug the heart strings of public to jump unto the boat of destruction to humanity’s individualism.
