Saturday. Thompson will get a title shot if he beats Henderson. Which is weird, since this fight was going to be for the title against the Human Glass Cannon, Anthony "Showtime" Pettis. As for Henderson, nobody cares. Dana loved when Pettis beat him so they could finally market the LW title. He has the personality of a box of chalk.

As for the card,

Fox main card:

Ben Henderson vs. Josh Thomson - Lightweight
Stipe Miocic vs. Gabriel Gonzaga - Heavyweight
Donald Cerrone vs. Adriano Martins - Lightweight
Darren Elkins vs. Jeremy Stephens - Featherweight

FS1/Fight Pass prelims:

Alex Caceres vs. Sergio Pettis - Bantamweight
Eddie Wineland vs. Yves Jabouin - Featherweight
Chico Camus vs. Yaotzin Meza - Bantamweight
Junior Hernandez  vs. Hugo Viana - Batamweight
Daron Cruickshank vs. Mike Rio - Lightweight
George Sullivan vs. Mike Rhodes - Welterweight

Facebook Fight

Walt Harris vs Nikita Krylov (LOL)

Cant waaaaaait! Are we ever gonna see Benderson finish a fight in ufc?

Thompson has only been KO'ed once, by beast age Yves Edwards. So... no. Hoping for a Thompson win or else the LW division is going into a tailspin because Pettis is made of glass and T.J. is still FUBAR.

He almost lost to a guy with a completely broken thumb. Not sure why I am surprised though because all of his fights are close (and not in a good way).

Also, I have always thought Stipe Miocic is very underrated. He has great boxing and movement for a heavyweight. I cannot wait to see who he fights next.

Absolute shocker Pettis fight

He should've remained at Flyweight. Campuzano was close in size but Caceres was way bigger than him. Maybe making the jump into the UFC was too much too soon.

His "new" style (post first Pettis loss) is built around outscoring and taking the safe decisions. Notice that he doesn't throw headkicks, happily stays inside the guard throwing shots and never pursues. That's his thing, much like Dominick Cruz has his. And that's why Dana was so happy that Pettis beat him. The problem now is that he's 0-2 against the LW champion but can decision every contender to death.

As for Stipe, he performed well but couldn't put away an extremely gassed Gonzaga, a guy who's known for getting KO'ed in brutal fashion. Since the HW division is a mess right now, he'll probably have to fight someone coming off a loss. That opens up the door for fights against JDS and Hunt. Or they can provide him with a sidestep and have him fight Brendan Schaub. Another option is Ben Rothwell, but I don't know if he's fit to fight.

Indeed. He was definitely harder to market than Anthony Pettis is. Part of it could be his boring (and often annoying) personality, the other part is the whole Christian deal which people will look down on him for. I personally would not look down on him for that, but I am just being honest as to why some people dislike him. *Shrug*

Stipe definitely needs to work on his strength. I do not think he lacks the strength it would have taken for a knockout, but he kept holding back. He was probably scared that Gonzaga was going to unleash a big hay-maker (not knowing that Gonzaga also supposedly broke his hand). I would definitely like to see him against Brendan Schaub. If there is one fight I would beg for a KO, it would be against that guy.

Did you know that Chris Weidman is an extremely devout christian? No? That's because he doesn't try to shove religion down everyone's throats. Benson needed to tone it down a bit. Thanking Jesus for your win? OK. Trying to lead a full stadium in an amen? Not so OK.

As for Stipe, he's fine. He doesn't have 1 punch KO power but people aren't really looking to him as the next champion. Gaining strength is generally done by adding muscle and that brings cardio problems, something Stipe needs to work on despite being a bit "flabby" at 245lb. He also learned from the Struve fight, where he was trucking Struve left and right until he got starched. He paces himself, uses his range, and gets the win. Could he be more exciting? Sure. But he hasn't faced any "gimme" fights.

I like Mir and I want to see him win but I don't think he's got what it takes to beat Overeem.

If Mir plays to his strengths, he could win. Get a sneaky sub locked in from guard. But since Overeem is probably going to rush him like he did Browne, eh, he's toast. He still claims the Barnett stoppage was early. Sure, 30 more seconds of Barnett raining bombs on his skull would've been fine.

I do not personally like Overeem, but I was anxious to see him plow his way through the division and fight for the title when he first got to the UFC. I hope he can win a few and face some higher ranked guys to see if he still has a glass jaw. Granted, this is the heavyweight division. Nobody hits softly. In a video I saw yesterday on UFC's YouTube page, it said he went back to his roots and was training in Thailand. He kind of has a douche-like aura around him, lol. I like Mir. He has received a lot of criticism in the past but he seems like a good guy. I do think his time has come though, and this is probably going to be his ticket out.

Everyone goes back to their roots, it's a painful clich?. Didn't he also said he was in the best shape ever?

The HW division is paper thin currently, with almost no interesting prospects outside of the UFC or nowhere near UFC ready. Mir would still get another fight with a loss, barring a catastrophic loss and/or massive damage taken. As for Overeem, he just hasn't been the same since going off the steroids. Granted, he was crushing cans in Strikeforce, but he did dispose of Lesnar. A post-diverticulitis Lesnar yes, but he cracked him in half. A loss to Mir would likely see him cut and re-hired with a much lesser salary to fight the Krylov's and Jordan's of the division. If he wins, it's easy: book him against Junior dos Santos who's currently without a dance partner.

Julianna Pena suffers severe knee injury, withdraws from UFC 171

The TUF curse strikes again. She tore her ACL, MCL, LCL and meniscus, brutal injury. She'll probably be out of comission for a year, right after winning TUF. That's a massive blow.

Would like to see Overeem win and then JDS beat him down. :D

Tomorrow! Everyone made weight except for regular weight-misser John Lineker. If he wins, there's a 50% chance he gets cut. If he loses, he's getting cut. He still has an hour to make 126 but there is no way the UFC is giving a Flyweight title shot if he can't make the weight.

PPV main card:

Renan Barao (135) vs. Urijah Faber (134.5) - Bantamweight championship
Jose Aldo (145) vs. Ricardo Lamas (144.5) - Featherweight championship
Frank Mir (256.5) vs. Alistair Overeem (257) - Heavyweight
John Lineker (127*) vs. Ali Bagautinov (126) - Flyweight
Jamie Varner (156) vs. Abel Trujillo (155.5) - Lightweight

FS1/Fight Pass prelims:

John Makdessi (155) vs. Alan Patrick (155.5) - Lightweight
Chris Cariaso (125) vs. Danny Martinez (125.5) - Flyweight
Nick Catone (185.5) vs. Tom Watson (185.5) - Middleweight
Al Iaquinta (155) vs. Kevin Lee (155.5) - Lightweight
Clint Hester (185.5) vs. Andy Enz (184.5) - Middleweight
Tony Martin (155.5) vs. Rashid Magomedov (155) - Lightweight
Neil Magny (170.25) vs. Gasan Umalatov (170) - Welterweight

Right to the moon.

They took full advantage of their circumstances. All of the previous 7 fights went to decision. 3 bonuses were up for grabs and they sure as heck weren't going for Submission of the Night.

As for the rest of the card, it sucked. It was so bad. Aldo, like almost every other UFC champion, has perfected point fighting to a new pinnacle. Nobody cries robbery in an Aldo win as if it was a Benson or GSP win. But it still sucked that he didn't finish an opponent that was CLEARLY outmatched. Heck, even Mighty Mouse has finished his last two fights. When Mighty Mouse is finishing more fights than you and you were a straight up killer in the WEC, there's something seriously wrong.

Bar?o, on the other end, got a raw deal. He pushed for the finish like he always does but the early stoppage didn't help him gain fans. Faber was going to lose that fight, especially since he had an injured hamstring, but that's no way to finish a PPV headliner and gain fans.

Overeem refusing to put Mir away was also pretty terrible. That card SUCKED. I hope UFC 170 can redeem the UFC for February... but it isn't likely.

Aldo didn't want to drop the belt and wants Pettis at a meaningless catchweight. HA!

Uncle Dana says everything has been sorted out (read: PPV points) and it's probably going to be Cub Swanson vs Chad Mendes for the 145 belt and Aldo vs Pettis for the 155 belt.

    • Apple reluctantly forces strict new age checks on Texas users starting today by Paul Hill Apple will begin enforcing the Texas Age Assurance Law (SB 2420) following a recent court ruling that lifted an injunction on SB 2420. Starting June 4 (today), Apple will enforce strict age-verification and parental-consent rules for new Apple accounts created in Texas. This move will affect children under 18 who go to download apps or attempt to make in-app purchases. Apple previously expressed privacy concerns related to this law, but compliance is now mandatory for the company, nevertheless. Apple will use several APIs to follow the law. Principally, the Declared Age Range API will fetch the specific user age bracket (Under 13, 13-15, 16-17, or 18+) and a verification method. The Significant Change API (PermissionKit) will trigger a system dialog for parental consent if an app gets a major update or an age-rating shift. There is also a new property type in StoreKit that allows developers to automatically check when their app’s age rating has changed on a user’s device and then use the Significant Change API to request parental consent. Finally, App Store Server Notifications can be configured to tell developers when a parent revokes consent, blocking app launches. To ensure they are ready for these changes, developers must immediately use Apple’s sandbox testing environment to validate these APIs in their apps. For any developers out there finding this to be inconvenient, get used to it. Other regions, such as Utah, Louisiana, and Brazil, are looking at, or have implemented, similar rules.
