Mac OS X Lion Discussion

Okay, that's a bit non-intuitive, don't you think? I've found that Lion does have some neat new functionality but it's currently not documented or hidden in such a way that it just feels awkward to enable.

Not really no. It's the first thing I thought on my own of when I saw the preference pane doesn't have a dropbox per Space.

True you have to know that this is possible in the first place, but I find the execution quite logical. Doesn't it work the same way if you want to change a desktop picture on a second monitor?

Four finger pinch in will show Launchpad

Four finger swipe up will show Mission Control

Four finger swipe left/right will scroll Dashboard (left of desktop) < - > Desktop < - > full screen apps

Pretty cool once you get used to it.

you can change all that in magic mouse or using magic pref to tweak things a little bit to serve your comfort. the app also work well with Lion.

there's nothing conflicting about it? it tells you to install another version of xcode, one that works on 10.6

It says that Xcode needs Lion, yet then also says that you need to install a version of Xcode that supports Snow Leopard. Does seem a little odd.

How on earth do you do that?

I'm not running Lion, but don't see how doing that is possible lol.

put four fingers on trackpad, such that they are not touching. Then drag them all together.

Gotta love the new tab styles with the active button/tab sliding around. (Y)

The only thing I don't like is that windows don't animate consistently. Some have that new zoom open effect (only document based applications as it seems), while some don't. And sometimes a dialog window will animate on open, and sometimes I doesn't. I'm sure this will be fixed though.

Mac OS X Lion definitely does a lot to give Aqua its coolness back. It almost feels like running Mac OS X Cheetah for the first time again. Almost. :)

does anyone have issues with wi-fi on lion? it run very slow...compare on snow leopard. Big issues here!

When I was running from an external hard drive, I had a ton of WiFi issues. Since I installed it directly onto to MBP, it's been very smooth. Don't ask me why that worked, but it did.

I've been doing some digging on how to change the background of the Dashboard desktop and I've figured out how to do it.

Step 1: Navigate to System/Library/CoreServices/Dock/Contents/Resources

Step 2: Find the file called pirelli.png and drag it to the desktop

Step 3: If you want to use the background found in Mission Control, copy the file called default desktop.png in the same folder to the desktop and rename it to pirelli.png

Step 4: Drag that file you just renamed back into System/Library/CoreServices/Dock/Contents/Resources

Step 5: Launch Terminal and type in the following command: killall Dock

Step 6: Check if the background of Dashboard was changed

NOTE: If you just remove the pirelli.png file from step 2, the wallpaper of your first desktop will be used as the background for Dashboard.

Any questions, just reply back.

Neat tip! Thanks!

You may want to use a darker version of that image:

You're right. It looks better. Also, I found an issue where, if you're using an external monitor, the background of the dashboard will still be the dots on the external. Looking into why.

I'm sure you've figured this out already, but you need Xcode 4.1. :p That is a funny dialog, though.

Yea figured it out, I just though it was a funny error. :p I hate the fact you always have to download the entire Xcode image over and over again with every update. Why aren't these things pushed through Software Update as well?

I'm surprised that the background image for Mission Control is only 1920x1200 or something like that. :/

wi-fi issues on lion is really ****ing me off..the speed is so damn slow.logging back to snow leopard fast like hell, what's going on?? OMG!

Don't tell me you expect the first Mac OS X Lion Developer Preview to be without its issues?

It's been going pretty well here. I've only managed to crash Disk Utility so far (by trying to get the SHA1 checksum of the InstallESD.dmg). This crashes it straight away.

It looks like there's no way to enable FTP sharing though. Even with the server components installed.

BTW the App Store in Lion detected updates for some apps on my Snow Leopard drive. Even without logging in.

So I just (accidentally) discovered the two-finger page navigation in Safari (and I assume other applications), and it has a neat effect, but is there any way to edit it? I can't find anything relating to it in the Trackpad/Mouse preferences.

    • Microsoft released new Defender update for Windows 11, 10, Server ISO installations by Sayan Sen Microsoft releases new Windows Defender update packages very frequently to protect against various newly discovered malware. Once a while every three months or so, the company also pushes out these updates to Windows images (WIM and VHD) and ISOs, that are used to install Windows. Hence with the newest Windows 11 update available via the official MCT tool, you should get these definitions. This update package is necessary as a Windows installation image may contain old, outdated anti-malware definitions and software binaries. Aside from better security, these updates can also provide improved performance benefits in some cases. When a new Windows installation is set up, there may be a temporary security risk due to outdated Microsoft Defender protection in the OS installation images. This happens because the antimalware software included in these images might not be up to date. Thus Microsoft says that these updated definitions essentially help close this protection gap. Microsoft delivered the latest security definitions for Windows images via security intelligence update version 1.445.323.0. The Defender package version is also the same. It applies to Windows 11, Windows 10 ESU, Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021, Win 10 Ent LTSC 2019, Win 10 Ent LTSB 2016, Windows Server 2022, Windows Server 2019, and Windows Server 2016. Microsoft writes: "This package updates the anti-malware client, anti-malware engine, and signature versions in the OS installation images to following versions: Platform version: 4.18.26040.7 Engine version: 1.1.26040.8 Security intelligence version: 1.447.236.0" From Microsoft's security bulletin, we learn that the security intelligence update version 1.447.236.0 was released early last month and adds threat detections for various malware like trojan, backdoor exploits, ransomware, stealers, AutoKMS, and more. For those wondering, the latest intelligence update is version 1.451.297.0 at the time of writing.
