Hey, how does this testing works ? You have to send back device after some time ?

not being mean however, if you read either the website or this very thread you would know they give it to you for FREE however, you are obligated to write up reviews and send feedback on the device and future updates on the software.

And if you dont? Google shows up at your frontdoor?

Basically it is a contest.

If I haven't gotten an email yet and I signed up a few days ago does that mean I'm out?

They did not send out emails they just arrived on folks's door steps this morning. Also as stated before there are only 66k of them and they did not ship them all out at the same time.

I got mine today and clicked on the box on Chrome. It was a very short signup (nothing like the link that asks you what you'll be using it for, etc.) I believe it only asked for my mailing information and e-mail address (I used my GMAIL.)

To the people who have them: Did you sign up with the webpage or did you click on the box that Chrome had?

EDIT: Saw Spork did. Anyone else?

Most people appear to have used the chrome box. I signed up on the site and haven't gotten one yet.

Someone who has received their Chrome notebook, look for a reference number on the package. It would be on the shipping label as REFERENCE 1 or REF # or REF 1. If it's not on the box, try to enter the tracking number on the FedEx or UPS site and then it may display a reference number on that page.

Once we have the reference number, anyone can go to the FedEx or UPS website, enter their zip code, and then it will tell you if you have a package coming from Google. The website for searching them is https://fedex.com/AltRefTracking if it's shipped FedEx (which I think it is) or http://wwwapps.ups.com/WebTracking/reference if it's UPS.

So, if you have received a Chrome notebook, please post the reference number for the package. I'm really hoping I get my Chrome notebook... I first filled out the form in a link from Chrome but then did the "advanced" survey. I hope that didn't disqualify me.

It's probably a unique reference number for each one?

No idea.

Now that I'm really thinking about it, if I do get one, I'm not sure how much I could use it. I mean I'm a student, so I "should" be able to use it, but without Microsoft Office.... Ive never used google apps, but a lot of things we do require powerpoint, and I do use OneNote on a every day basis.

Wonder if it is possible to replace the SSD with a 32GB one (or even a hard drive) and put Windows 7 on there and dual boot somehow

Ahh I really hope I get one of these. I didn't even see the Chrome sticker thing on Facebook until after they'd announced it... really should pay more attention to things like that.

Even if I don't... I'll just keep running builds on my netbook... but as this thing is faster and has a longer-lasting battery than my netbook I'd love to have one.

I've made a program that checks each reference number on the UPS site with a zip code to see if a package is coming. The last four numbers start at 1000 and increment from there. I probably won't release this publicly but I could scrape the city names from the pages to make a list of all cities receiving them. Would that be helpful or not?

Came home after work today and didn't have a package waiting for me. Figures.

That would be cool.

    • How backwards can you have it? Yes, Linux was gaining because of Linux handhelds and the push for gaming compatibility, but that's not desktop users, it barely converts anyone who owns a SteamDeck, though it helps for those who wanted to do it, but anyways, the AI+RAM debacle helped Linux because people can't easily upgrade their PCs easily and many hate AI so they'd be incentivized to try Linux.
    • 🤦🏻‍♂️ No, expected because 10 EOL
    • Dude, it's a .reg away from a permanent modification. If you're a power user, look it up and keep the .reg and stop being a crybaby expecting MS to include customization for everything on a generalist OS. The default is what's the best UX for the majority of the userbase, non techie people.
