The link that you get on a new tab in Chrome that asks to apply now.

I was thinking of doing that but decided against it - I'd say a full form that asks you for more information (and that you find by going to the Chrome OS website) is more likely to get you accepted than a link that seems to be showing up in everyone's Chrome browser.

It does not show in everybody's browser. I believe they make Chrome track your web activity including what websites you go to and how long to determine if you would be a good tester. I didn't get the option until I went to several tech websites and browsed for a couple hours.

It appeared for me immediately when I installed the developers channel on a fresh Ubuntu installation (was trying out Natty alpha).

Did not for me. And I installed it on several computers. Then I decided to use Chrome Sync/Autofill/Themes, and on one of my computers it popped up on the new tab page after several hours.

Odd. I didn't do any customizations to it. Just showed up immediately after installation and first launch.

Probably because it detected you on a Ubuntu alpha install...it probably automatically assumed you were a power-user. I'm just on Windows 7 and Chrome Dev Channel.

That is a pretty big assumption. :(

I'm on Windows 7 and Dev Channel and got the device from the drop down button. It appeared right after the webcast finished. I had closed the window, opened Chrome up 5 minutes later, and there it was.

Or it shows up if it detects you're using the Dev Channel maybe? (Or, in my case, the Chromium daily builds in the chromium-daily PPA.)

Who knows. I use the dev channel on all my PCs yet my laptop is the only one that gets the prompt.

It only works if you have Ubuntu installed =S

What? no... where do you see that in the 3 steps. For standalone, you don't need ubuntu. Dualboot? maybe... but if you know your way around a boot loader, you can make it work without.

After I filled out the form & survey it just sent me back to the "Test drive a Chrome notebook" page, was that it...?

Anyway, yea hope I get one! :)

That's probably because you went over the 140 character limit in the little blurb part.

If done correctly, it should say something like "This page confirms that we have received your application, thanks..." etc.

I re-did it and got the confirmation, thanks :)

I think I did go over the 140 characters the first time.

Does this message mean i will get one? It's the message I received after applying.

Thanks for submitting your application! This page confirms that we've received your application, and we're looking forward to reading it. We'll contact you if you've been selected!

I used this page in Google Chrome to apply:

Doesn't mean you'll get one 100%, but at least they have your application for sure. Now you can join us and see if any tracking numbers are going to your zip code once they ship the next batch :p

That message just means that Google got your completed form and if your lucky you'll get selected for a Cr-48.

EDIT:

Beat me to it. :p

    • OpenAI is rolling out a major upgrade to ChatGPT memory by Pradeep Viswanathan OpenAI is rolling out a major upgrade to ChatGPT's memory, making the system more capable, current, and scalable across long-term use. Memory allows ChatGPT to remember useful details about users, including their preferences, projects, and constraints. Instead of starting every conversation from scratch, ChatGPT can use this context to provide more relevant responses in future chats. OpenAI first launched saved memories in February 2024. That feature allowed users to explicitly ask ChatGPT to save information into its memory, such as travel plans or writing preferences. However, this system had limits because it depended heavily on users giving clear instructions to remember something. Additionally, saved memories could become stale over time. In April 2025, OpenAI expanded memory by allowing ChatGPT to reference past chat context outside the saved memories list. This was powered by a background process called “dreaming,” which automatically curates memories from chat history. This made ChatGPT better at learning from natural conversation without requiring users to manually save every detail. Today, OpenAI announced a more capable and compute-efficient memory architecture built on top of dreaming. This new system improves ChatGPT’s ability to carry forward useful context, follow user preferences, and remain accurate as time passes. According to OpenAI’s internal evaluations, the new system improves factual recall from 67.9% in 2025 to 82.8% in 2026. Preference adherence improves from 55.3% to 71.3%, while accuracy over time improves from 52.2% to 75.1%. The best part of this new system is a new memory summary page where users can review ChatGPT's memories. Users can even update details, correct information, or give instructions on what topics ChatGPT should bring up and when. This new, improved memory system is available to ChatGPT Plus and Pro users in the US starting today. It will roll out to more countries, as well as Free and Go users, in the coming weeks.
