I hope the style of the cover is one of only a few things it takes from BF BC2(along with frosbite 2 of course)

TRAILER

From GI

Most of the hard information is being kept under wraps for the cover story, but here's some declassified intel for you: Several standout features that defined Battlefield 2 return to the fold, including 64-player multiplayer on PC, jets, and the ability to go prone. What other features do you hope to see in Battlefield 3?

A new engine? I hope it's better than Frostbite... I really wasn't impressed with that tech, except for Battlefield 1943, simply because it was an XBLA/PSN game with fairly good graphics. I look forward to seeing this. Given that DICE canceled the PC versions of Battlefield 1943 and Bad Company 2: Onslaught to focus on this, it better be impressive.

It's not technically a new engine. It's Frostbite 2.0. BC2/Vietnam run Frostbite 1.5.

Am I the only that's disappointed that they're making a single player for BF3? Just focus on multiplayer DICE..

executive producer Patrick Bach dubs Frostbite 2 "the best piece of technology on the market when it comes to building games."

If he read what the developers have said about their engine and how they have to go about patching their game and delivering updates and whatever else he wouldn't have said that. Maybe it has changed in Frostbite 2.0 but I really doubt it.

So How about modtools

Software engineering, file formats, and build process packaging

I quite like frostbite. Some things need work like the netcode and how the player movement feels, but in many ways it is still extremely impressive. BC2 has some of the most immersive graphics and sounds I have ever seen in a multiplayer game.

Wasn't this what happened with Battlefield Bad Company 2?

well BFBC2 sold over like 6 million units so it managed to do a respectable amount considering. Alot of the press think that BFBC2 is the better game and the best mutliplayer shooter to come out last year. Frankly IMO the only thing that allowed COD to get so big in the first place was DICE taking so long with BF3 and neglecting the consoles for so long.

The most logical assumption of BF3 is one I came across on the BC2 forums. BF3 will most likely share a lot of mechanics of BC2, but stuff like the upgrade system and other non-in-game mechanics would be in the vein of BF2. I have to admit I jumped straight from BF1942 to BC2, so I can't make any personal opinions. But BC2 was a pretty solid game (aside from horrendous net code), and I would not mind at all if BF3 did end up borrowing heavily. As long as the game stays away from being a CoD clone. I'm sick of that crap.

I've always loved the Battlefield franchise over Call of Duty or even Medal of Honor. Just something different about it that I really like. Looking forward to the next game. My wish is a more realistic environment and even more destruction. Maybe more player classes would be nice. While I think people get these games for online only. I hope they put more effort into the single player campaign.

Am I so old that I still prefer single player action , I mean yea Multiplayer is great but what if you don't want to play with screaming 10 yrolds online all the time. Ugh I'm old.

While I tend to agree, 90% of the time I also prefer a solid SP experience, when BF is the game, to me it is what MP is all about, and the SP detracts from what the game is truly about. Through the release of 2142, BF was always about the MP, and it showed. While I thoroughly do enjoy the MP of BC2, the addition of a SP experience has no doubt detracted from the overall MP experience. For a series to get dumbed down over time is just ass backwards, yet BF has managed to do just that, and while it is still solid, BF2 is still the best of the series, at least IMO.

Also you may want to try playing it on the PC, no screaming 10 yr olds whatsoever, at least in my experience.

You sir, are amazing.

I haven't changed my desktop in years and I finally found a wallpaper besides my default(a central view of the golden temple, at night, its beautiful) to replace my desktop for awhile. Atleast until the game comes out.

You my man, have done a very good job.

Ontopic; I agree with Dirty. BF has ALWAYS been about Multiplayer. The single player i really dont think takes away because i jumped straight to BC2 Online. I dont generally play Single Player when theres Multiplayer available and most FPS's have multiplayer so me seeing the single player is rare.

Anyway, Im hoping this is BF2 but frostbite graphics, I will be in heaven and I will find my next 2-3 years worth of good quality PC gaming if thats the case!

I'm actually with you on that. Either do a single player right, or don't do it at all if it's going to make the multiplayer worse. The Bad Company games weren't horrible in singleplayer, but they just weren't very good, and there was no point to do them, really. If they can make a good singleplayer campaign, then by all means, do it... but don't forget about the multiplayer. Same thing happens with the inverse a lot of times: adding multiplayer and making the singleplayer worse.

    • Yeah, this is absolutely nothing new and EA have done it before. Burnout Paradise, released in 2008, had dynamic advertising billboards that were updated via the internet and targeted people based on location and what EA knew about them from their profile. It was particularly notable for the fact that the Obama presidential campaign ran ads in the game, in an attempt to reach a younger audience who didn't watch broadcast TV any more. It was by no means the first though. Battlefield 2142 from 2006 had the same thing. In fact, Neowin wrote a story about it back then. https://www.neowin.net/news/ba...-in-game-ads-clarification/
    • This is obviously aimed at the education where Apple has lost so much ground to Chromebooks in the last few years, but unless they come up with a comparable management system for education why would anyone switch back?
    • Here's how we arrived at that claim: Note that this is just Play Store downloads. The app is also available on the Galaxy App Store
    • Google Play states the app had more than 50 million downloads. What other metric do you suggest should be used?
    • MSN defined our generation in some ways, kind of like Snapchat and TikTok have done for future generations. I have great memories of the MSN era in the late 90s / early 2000s. In the UK everyone seemed to come home from School and go on MSN for the evening. We didn't really have mobile phones then, so other than going and knocking on your friends door it was a totally new way of interacting with people. I also loved how I could talk to people I’d met playing online games from around the world. Inviting people to NetMeeting and messing about with the shared white board and webcams was pretty fun, even if webcams only ran at a couple of fps over dial-up. All the random things you could do with MsgPlus! were really fun - I suspect that made a few people jump with /shello randomly blasting Mr Hankey out their speakers! Maybe I’m just nostalgic, however I do feel the internet and computers were more fun back then.
