is it only my pc or is it the theme itself...

the taskbar buttons do not flash very visibally.

for example. while working if a yahoo chat window is on, the flashing caused by new messages are not exactly apparent... any ideas?

You got an old version then.

Navigate to the first post and click on the download link. You will be transfered to DeviantArt where you can download the latest version with better flashing buttons on the taskbar.

i hear about colors... i hear about colorschemes.. i hear about ideas for the vs

but i don't see a shell32.dll guyz (dazzla that one goes for you? )

ps: just kidding.. it's perfect!

ps2: would like to see the icon .dll set though

Wondering that too. Hope Dazzla didn't give up on it.

If he did I will do it myself. IconPackager set that is. I'm not gonna hack Shell32.dll files.

thanks mate, the latest one fix my problem. love your theme...

also logon screens now!:DD

Well, I got ticked at having a gorgeous visual style and a slightly buggy Winamp (ok, it was an XMMS skin) skin. I've corrected/edited (easier to read fonts) the skin and e-mailed Jimmac earlier today. Once I have permission (if I have permission) I'll upload. Btw, the library looks sweeeeett....

Awesome! Hopefully everything will go smoothly and we will see it soon.

Would this happen to have support for the Video window and Library window as well? I used 2.91 for the longest time (running 5.0 alpha now), and not having these windows supported by must skins almost seemed... yucky. 5.0 has increased support and it is now my default multimedia center for most file formats, so I would love to see these windows supported by the Industrial Ximian WA skin. Just a thought...

Reguardless, I hope you get permission :)

Yep, I've created skins for all windows in stock Winamp 2.9x - Main, Playlist, Equalizer, Library, Minibrowser, and Video. Still waiting on Jimmac to allow me to upload.

really really really nice!

love the theme.. and the wallpaper (using the 1337 haxor one)

and now... we need some icons :)

great job.. schmoove

In the meantime, I'm using Korilla off wincustomize (iconpackage). Looks good.

oeh... oeh.. link pls pls ... cuz wincustomize can't find, korilla or Gorilla

Vidar: look forward to it!

Schmoove: is there any chance you will change the log off and shutdown buttons? imho the log off is getting repetitive because its already next to the words "Ximian Desktop" in the start menu. especially in the compact version, it looks too crowded with the same thing. is there a way to get the actual Ximian log off and Shutdown buttons and use those? gracias ;)

Just to say a great theme keeps getting better (heck, it replaced watercolor lite as my theme of choice).

But I have one question: Any other color schemes planned for the future? I love the Industrial blue, but I was just wondering if other options would be available.

Vidar: look forward to it!

Nope no chance.

The thing is that the buttons have to be as small as possible because the small startmenu has limited space.

Anyways. I did thave a version with the original Ximian icons on it, but I hated it. It stays how it is right now (well for now that is), since I really like it this way. Right now it has a uniform look. If I replace it with some icons it will look weird and out of place, well that is my view on it.

The thing is that you always have to make a choice, I can't please everyone... I made this choice and I will stick to it.

BTW, Vidar, I'm looking forward to that Winamp skin!!!

This desktop is free to download & use ?? how to use it ?? if it's of that much fame...i've heard about this a lot.

For Windows or for Linux??

For Windows, you can check the first post for a download link (you need a patched UxTheme.dll or StyleXP ofcourse).

For Linux you can get it at http://www.ximian.com , it is a webinstall though so you need to install it in Linux, you can't download a package or something (at least not that I know off)

It was done on purpose. It can only be fixed by:

1) changing the color of menu selections. Not gonna do that, this is how it is supposed to be so that stays.

2) changing the color of the small icons on mouseover. That is something I could do indeed.

3) changing the whole startmenu design. I'm not even considering that.

So I will try to find something to fix this (although it doesn't really annoy me).

This topic is now closed to further replies.

    • UK funds £60M AI labs to challenge US tech dominance with open-source models by Paul Hill The UK government has awarded £60 million to Oxford University and University College London to help keep the country in the AI race by focusing on open-source, low-hardware alternatives. This is in stark contrast to the expensive, closed-source, and high-hardware-requirement models being created in the United States and elsewhere. The money will be shared among two new academic research labs over six years to help them redesign the fundamental mathematics and architectures of AI to help the UK reduce its reliance on a handful of US tech firms. Commenting on the development, AI Minister Kanishka Narayan said: Initially, the government planned to fund just one lab with a £40 million investment, but with this update, two labs will now get access to a larger pool of funds. The labs are expected to invest in the top AI researchers at every career stage, with £2 million per lab being set aside for hiring at least ten doctoral students. The government hopes that this will grow the UK’s talent in the field of AI. The labs are also expected to work closely with the leaders in British AI research, such as the Alan Turing Institute and UKRI’s AI research hubs. This will allow the various teams to collaborate and create new solutions faster than they could alone. This development is pretty interesting for a number of reasons, chiefly that it could create a long-term challenge for US tech firms if these labs successfully scale these open-source architectures that bypass the proprietary ecosystems. It could also give British businesses and public sector organizations access to AI features without paying high licensing fees to foreign providers or needing to invest in specialized server infrastructure.
    • If I were them, I'm gonna hold out until the prices of these semiconductor parts normalize. $1,049 for a ~5 year old hardware is DoA, more so for gamers. On a deeper note, if Steam Machine is priced like this, we are soo effed up for the next gen Xbox console and PS6. With great AAA titles releasing at the end of the year, this just creates more demand...and more tears for me. Lol.
    • I suspect one reason its hard to justify subsidising is that it's not a locked down device like a traditional console is. In this climate sadly if it was a "good deal" you'd get people hoarding them for anything but gaming. The Lenovo Legion Go 2 with the Ryzen Z2 Extreme is £1300 here ($1720) for some context on how other SteamOS like devices are now priced. I got the older Z1 Extreme model for £300 with a dock, just shows how insane prices have got recently.
