Xbox 360 System Update Preview

Recommended Posts

So the only people that should get bricks are people that shouldn't have the disc anyway right? Also, is it actually "bricked" or just cannot connect to XBL?

They can't connect to XBL until the update is released to general public. Limited bricks if you will :p

I don't see any difference, does anyone can confirm that the update was on the disk. And just for curiosity what did the update do??

I didn't notice anything either. The Beta tab is still there but is just info nothing else. Plus... Halo:Reach... for the 30 minutes I played it, kind of sucks. :pinch:

You don't get banned, you just won't be able to connect to Xbox Live until the update goes public.

Yeah, seems to me they have a backend authentication when connecting to XBL and unless your console is on the approved list, XBL can't connect with the newer software.

Yes the update was on the disc. You won't notice anything as its a firmware update to allow the Xbox to read the new format. That's all we're testing.

If you were a disc tester, then you would have gotten a full system update when you put in the disc, and it would be very noticeable. It doesn't change anything about the look and feel of the system other than the beta tile, but you would certainly know that it had installed because it would take several minutes to update, as well as restart your Xbox.

Well, we don't really know for sure... we could end up testing more, but it's doubtful.

yup.

last helo I played was ODST and it seemed better than this...

So the "all we're tseting is this" part isn't quite true. There's two differences off the bad that I've already noticed.

1. The Recover Gamertag option now requires that you enter both your gamertag and your email address, whereas before it was only email address (and password, obviously)

2. Progress bars are now charcoal gray rather than the old flat green that they were before.

Not sure what else there might be that I haven't noticed, but yeah. Just those so far.

That used to always be the case, I think they changed it to just email / password when the dash was updated for Kinect.

I did like it better been just been email / password, I see no reason why you would need to enter the gamertag as you can only associate one per email address.

I still have not gotten anything from microsoft and I'm in the program. Which department of Microsoft would I contact about this? XBL or connect?

Neither.

If you have not received the disc, please be patient. Distribution dates will be provided as part of the program announcements.

That's in the FAQ - Console Management on MS Connect

Is it just me, or does Reach seem to now take an incredibly, incredibly, super long time to load. I had never finished the SP campaign, so I put the disk in and went to play it, and it literally took over 2 minutes to create the SP game? That one screen where it shows the lobby, game type, and basically creates the SP game for you. I am wondering if it has something to do with the new disk format, or if it is just an isolated incident on my end and no one elses?

And FTR, I thought maybe it was just a first time thing, so I quit the game completely, restarted the 360, fired up the game, and same deal. Took over 2 minutes to create the SP campaign game.

I also noticed I still had the same issue I always had, which was just specific to reach. Sound cuts out completely for a second or two randomly. Does not seem to be any specific sound that causes it to happen, just now and then sound cuts out completely. No rhyme or reason either. Can go 10 minutes without it happening, then it will happen 4 times in a minute, then 20 minutes without it happening, then 1 time in 10 minutes. Just weird. I will pay more attention, maybe it is a specific sound.

SP always took quite a while to load for me. Dunno what to say about your sound issue.

    • Microsoft admits one of the most crucial Outlook features is currently broken by Sayan Sen Microsoft is making some decent progress when it comes to Windows 11. Recently we have confirmed reports of some rather useful improvements landing in the next version of the OS, 26H2, wherein GPU driver TDR crashes may finally be fixed, plus the company is also allowing users to disable web content on the Search. On the Outlook front though things have not been so rosy. Last month in May we reported several problems affecting basic functionalities on the app. These included a problem where documents would open blank or corrupt themselves. Following that, Quick Steps, a very useful feature, would no longer work correctly, and finally, Microsoft acknowledged a problem wherein images would fail to load up properly inside the email. Microsoft had resolved those bugs later and almost exactly a month after we reported on them, the company has now admitted a new similarly basic issue, this time on Macs. Users recently started noticing that Outlook would no longer display email threads properly as the original message itself was not displayed. An affected user Tsoumpas, C (ngmb) nicely described the problem in a forum post they made on Microsoft's site. They wrote: "Description of the issue: After updating Outlook for Mac [Version 16.110 (26061317)] on 18/6/2026, replying to any email no longer includes the original message in the reply window. Prior to the update, replies correctly contained the original email text below my response. Expected behavior: The original message should be included in the reply, as in previous Outlook versions and according to the configured reply settings. Actual behavior: The reply window contains only a blank composition area (or only my response), with none of the original email text included." Obviously this must be a highly frustrating for users as noted by several in that thread. The post, at the time of writing, has also been upvoted by more than 40 users indicating that is a fairly widespread bug. Thankfully Microsoft seems to have acknowledged the problem right around that time as it opened a new issue on its official website. In the support article, the company recommends switching to Outlook for Mac from the legacy app, where the problem appears to be happening.
