lol... Again Penny Arcade has their finger on the pulse of Audioboxer

I think there might be too much information about the PSN Incursion now, apparently there?s something going on with SOE now, and there was a press conference or something. At this point, I already shredded the card; they can?t really get my goat, as the goat has been obliterated. Unless another shoe drops in the form of a comma delimited file full of plaintext credit cards or something, it may be over as a news concern. I want to give you a heads up, though, for the next round of Sony defense material which is typically indistinguishable from what they?d buy from a PR company.

- On the collapse of the Playstation Network:

?I?m a PS+ subscriber, and I don?t even care about this. I?m too busy enjoying the richness of this incredible, exclusive single player content.?

- On the revelation that the Playstation Network had been cracked open and the guts slurrrrrped out of it:

?What. The. ****.! Just move to a new city, cancel your credit cards, and then form new social bonds, beginning life anew in a faraway land!!! This is a gift.?

- On the discovery that the intrusion has resulted in the dissemination of an infectious Hrungnir neocyte:

?All you people who wont submit to the mindpulse are f?ing morons. It?s like one parasite and you guys are talking about it like it?s some big thing or like ?oh i don?t want to be a subjugant.? FFS, you guys. Just quaff the ****ing Dominus Flask. Yield to Her. Yield, and be whole.?

Sony?s Response to the U.S. House of Representatives

Today, the Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing and Trade of the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Energy and Commerce held a hearing in Washington, DC on ?The Threat of Data Theft to American Consumers.?

Kazuo Hirai, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sony Computer Entertainment America, submitted written answers to questions posed by the subcommittee about the large-scale, criminal cyber-attack we have experienced. We wanted to share those answers with you (click here).

In summary, we told the subcommittee that in dealing with this cyber attack we followed four key principles:

Act with care and caution.

Provide relevant information to the public when it has been verified.

Take responsibility for our obligations to our customers.

Work with law enforcement authorities.

We also informed the subcommittee of the following:

Sony has been the victim of a very carefully planned, very professional, highly sophisticated criminal cyber attack.

We discovered that the intruders had planted a file on one of our Sony Online Entertainment servers named ?Anonymous? with the words ?We are Legion.?

By April 25, forensic teams were able to confirm the scope of the personal data they believed had been taken, and could not rule out whether credit card information had been accessed. On April 26, we notified customers of those facts.

As of today, the major credit card companies have not reported any fraudulent transactions that they believe are the direct result of this cyber attack.

Protecting individuals? personal data is the highestpriority and ensuring that the Internet can be made secure for commerce is also essential. Worldwide, countries and businesses will have to come together to ensure the safety of commerce over the Internet and find ways to combat cybercrime and cyber terrorism.

We are taking a number of steps to prevent future breaches, including enhanced levels of data protection and encryption; enhanced ability to detect software intrusions, unauthorized access and unusual activity patterns; additional firewalls; establishment of a new data center in an undisclosed location with increased security; and the naming of a new Chief Information Security Officer.

We told the subcommittee about our intent to offer complimentary identity theft protection to U.S. account holders and detailed the ?Welcome Back? program that includes free downloads, 30 days of free membership in the

PlayStation Plus premium subscription service; 30 days of free service for Music Unlimited subscribers; and extending PlayStation Plus and Music Unlimited subscriptions for the number of days services were unavailable.

We are working around the clock to have some PlayStation Network services restored and we?ll be providing specific details shortly. We hope this update is helpful to you, and we will continue to keep you posted as we work to restore our network and provide you with both the entertainment and the security you deserve.

Woah, this wasn't known till now was it?

Could just be the hackers looking to throw investigators off the trail.

Rather smart actually. They know that Anon has been doing attacks on Sony. Perfect time to jump in and steal some credit cards will all the focus is on Anon.

After all, it doesn't sound like Anon's MO to steal credit cards. They've always been focused on attacking corporations, not stealing consumer data.

they said it'd be back up this week...it's already Thursday, where is it? better tell people you have no idea when it'll be on then surprise them for the better. it's preferrable to promising stuff you can't keep, and keeping promises is apparently problematic in this situation.

They said it would be this week on Monday which was the 1st, which means it could be till Sunday before we get anything to fall within a week, and they also said it would be done by region, for all we know they could start with just Japan this week and everywhere else would follow in the following days.

During the press conference in Japan today, Sony executive Kazuo Hirai told gaming customers that that they would be able to enjoy their online games by Friday of this week and apologized for the down time.

The improvements to the site will require Sony PlayStation 3 customers to accept a system software update to their console, and will require them to change the password on their accounts as well. These and other internal layers of enhanced security are designed to prevent future breaches of the company?s network and keep customer information safe.

There are rumors that when it comes up, additional features will be present, such as cross game voice chat and such... any confirmation on this?

I would say absolutely false.

I think the last thing on their mind has been adding new features. Hey, maybe I am wrong, but I myself am skeptical it will even be back up tomorrow.

I've given up my daily morning, lunch, and random night checks lol. I am on the same page as you. I'm expecting more delays til mid to end of next week.

I think if Sony wanted to develop x-chat they would have done so a long time ago. I don't think it's ever coming (or mkv support, or PS2 games on PSN etc etc the list goes on).

Not sure about natively, but PS3 media server plays literally 98% of all of the mkv's I throw at it, you might want to check it out if you have not already.

I think he wants native support.. Sucks having to run a server..

I personally broke down and bought a WD Live Hub.. no more problems with media files/conversions/muxing and 11 watts running 1080p mkvs with dts/ac3 sound :)

Not all games, but the re-releases are coming out on PSN, I know the God of War and Prince of Persia ones are out.

Important Step for Service Restoration

Today our global network and security teams at Sony Network Entertainment and Sony Computer Entertainment began the final stages of internal testing of the new system, an important step towards restoring PlayStation Network and Qriocity services.

As previously mentioned, we?ve been working around the clock to rebuild the network and enhance protections of your personal data. It?s our top priority to ensure your data is safe when you begin using the services again.

We understand that many of you are eager to again enjoy the PlayStation Network and Qriocity entertainment services that you love, so we wanted you to be aware of this milestone and our progress. We will provide additional updates as soon as we can.

    • I know I won't ever be using it to make my game. I'd rather pay humans.
    • Nah. For every indie dev that needs to create code for "stuff" or textures, it's a godsend enabler to possibly tackle a project that you may not otherwise. The end result and testing will tell the truth if everything works or doesn't, or a game is just mediocre slop, but now these tools are now there and it's the developer's duty to judge the outcome, and even more so for pro studios. And you gotta remember that they will be at an early stage.
    • whoosh my comment went over your head. Enjoy your notchless 3:2 OLED device
    • As a game dev, today was really depressing. They announced that Blueprints will be deprecated in UE6 to be fully replaced by their sh**ty Python-like Verse language... They also announced that 5.8 will be the last version of UE5 until UE6 comes out in MID 2029!!!! They have completely lost the plot.
