A new Xbox One update is rolling out to the public

A new Xbox One update is being pushed to all consoles, implementing general bug fixes and tweaks to applications and improving stability when using the New Xbox One Experience. The update is now being pushed to users worldwide, and is required to access the Xbox Live service.

The update doesn’t bring any new features or major changes, and instead implements minor tweaks to the Microsoft Edge web browser, and system wide bug fixes. These fixes mostly relate to the New Xbox One Experience, a large-scale overhaul of the Xbox One’s operating system which rolled out to the public last month. The latest version of the Xbox One operating system is ‘10.0.10586.1024 (th2_xbox_rel_1510.15203-1909) fre’, which is a slightly different version number to the latest Windows 10 build on phones and PCs. The update has previously been tested by members of the Xbox One Preview Program, which means the 373MB download won't be offered to those testers.

Users who utilize the Xbox One’s ‘Instant On’ mode will automatically receive the update, which will be installed while the console is in standby. For those who do not use the feature, the update can be manually triggered via the Xbox One settings application. To start the update, navigate to Settings > System, where the console will check for updates, and download the latest update.

This is expected to be one of the last Xbox One system updates of the year, as preparations are made for the first major update of 2016. In the early months of the year, we can expect Microsoft’s personal voice assistant ‘Cortana’ to arrive on the console, alongside more Windows 10 related features.
