Saber Interactive is perhaps best known now for its hugely popular action game Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, letting players wreak havoc wielding massive armor and weapons. Today at the State of Play showcase by Sony, the studio had a different kind of announcement, one that will be taking a certain high-profile movie character and moving him into a video game. John Wick is officially getting a AAA game.
Saber says that it has not attached a name to the project yet, simply calling it the "Untitled John Wick Game" for now. The studio is teaming up with Lionsgate for the project and promises a mature experience that will be single-player and feature third-person action gameplay.
“John Wick is one of the most iconic characters in action film history. Saber is honored to be working alongside Chad, Keanu and the Lionsgate team in a true collaboration to bring the world of Wick to life in a AAA game,” said Matthew Karch, CEO at Saber Interactive.
The studio also promised that Wick's iconic “gun-fu” fighting style will be featured in this experience. John Wick franchise director Chad Stahelski and actor Keanu Reeves are both involved in the game’s production as well, with Reeves already set to voice his character.
"Saber’s authentic design will deliver on the signature style and unique elements fans expect from a John Wick mission, including a hard-hitting gun-fu combat system, jaw-dropping camerawork, intense driving experiences, cinematic storytelling, and a bold range of atmospherically immersive environments, all crafted to make players feel like they are in a John Wick movie, playing the role of the Baba Yaga himself," adds the developer.
As for the storyline, the game will be a canon experience but a prequel. It will follow Wick's adventures before his "Impossible Task" mentioned in the movies. Alongside fresh roles, other characters seen in the movie franchise will be appearing in the game too.
The "Untitled John Wick Game" will be released across PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. No release time frames have been announced yet.
