Aliens: Fireteam Elite, the 2021-released cooperative shooter set in the Aliens universe, delivered players a horde-slaying experience that had them going up against the dreaded Xenomorphs from the movies. Five years later, fans finally have a new entry coming their way, with original developer Cold Iron Studios returning with a sequel announcement.

Taking the role of colonial marines heading into a rescue mission, players will find that their mission is changing into a survival operation quite soon. Xenomorphs will be trying to ambush, swarm, and take out members of the team as they fight through corridors and rooms. The classes system is also being overhauled for the sequel, according to the developer, offering team-based mechanics and rewards based on coordination if they strategically take down the incoming threats.

Watching the announcement trailer below, fans of the original may have already realized that there is now a fourth member accompanying the standard three-person squad. In addition to bringing four-player support to the sequel, the developer will also be introducing the Specialist Class as a new option to take on runs. Players are able to mix and match abilities from other classes when building their Specialist for a completely custom loadout.

However, to make up for this extra firepower and coordination possibilities of the humans, the Xenomorphs, pathogen horrors, and Weyland-Yutani combat synths will be harder than ever to take down. The studio is promising a large variety of foes that will take the squad's entire long-range and melee arsenal just to not get overwhelmed.

“With Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2, we’re doubling down on the action and the terror, delivering an experience worthy of the Alien franchise,” said Chris Cross, Game Director of the new project. "We are all massive fans of the franchise, and we're thrilled to have the opportunity to craft a sequel to Aliens: Fireteam Elite, a game that successfully brought to life the fantasy of colonial marines facing off against the iconic and terrifying xenomorphs."
