AMD "now number two to Intel"

In revenue terms, AMD has always been number two to Intel. Senior executives at Intel have called AMD the "imitator" to us, and certainly it's been through periods of just mopping up the wake left by Chipdolla.

But there's a piece on emulators.com which reckons that by backing DDR alone, and because it's lagged behind in the megahurtz race, it has become number two to Intel in just a matter of months.

Darek Mihocka is going to be an unpopular Darek for saying it, but he adds that like Mr Kastner at the Aberdeen Group, the "performance rating" is so much smoke and mirrors.

That he describes as "sleazy marketing targeting stupid people".

He asks where the .13 micron XP is, and says that 64-bit chips is all so much hype, pointing out that the switch from 16-bits to 32-bits took long enough.

He is neither an Intel nor an AMD fan-boy, because, he claims, as recently as six months back, AMD held the lead.
