Angry Birds Space gets 50 million downloads in 35 days

The Angry Birds phenomenon continues to grow, thanks to the recent and highly successful launch of the latest game in the arcade series, Angry Birds Space. The game's developer Rovio announced today that the game, which launched on March 22nd, has now been downloaded 50 million times in its first 35 days of release. Rovio claims that makes Angry Birds Space " ... the fastest growing mobile game yet and breaking all our previous records. "

The company didn't reveal a breakdown of how many of those downloads happened on each of its four platforms (Android, iOS, PC and Mac). It also didn't disclose how many of the downloads were of the free ad-supported version and how many were of the paid but add-free game.

Rovio released a new and free update for Angry Birds Space a few days ago for iOS and Android platforms that added 10 new levels and today's announcement said that the company has " ... plenty more surprises in stock."

There's still no word on when the promised Windows Phone version of Angry Birds Space might be released. Rovio has already announced that it plans to launch several more Angry Birds games by the end of 2012.
