Apple's Chrome extension for iCloud passwords is now live

A few days ago, Apple prematurely announced iCloud Keychain support for Chrome on Windows on its support page. At that time, the URL for the Chrome extension was met with a 404 error because it hadn't been made live yet. This changes today as Apple has officially released the extension for Google Chrome.

As spotted by The Verge, there is now a page for the "iCloud Passwords" extension on Chrome for Windows and Mac. What the capability allows you to do is essentially use your strong Safari-generated passwords on Chrome as well. Similarly, passwords that you create on Chrome will now sync with iCloud so that they can be used on Apple devices as well. The description for the listing reads:

iCloud Passwords allows you to use the same strong Safari passwords you create on your Apple device, with Chrome on Windows.

iCloud Passwords is a Chrome extension for Windows users that allows you to use the same strong Safari passwords you create on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac when visiting websites in Chrome on your Windows PC. iCloud Passwords also saves any new passwords you create in Chrome to your iCloud Keychain so that it is also available on your Apple devices.

The launch of the Chrome extension will undoubtedly be welcomed by users who switch between Apple and Windows devices frequently and use iCloud Keychain as their primary password manager. On the other side of the fence, Microsoft is hard at work trying to get iOS users to transition to its two-factor authentication app. The company keeps emphasizing from time to time about how it wants to kill off passwords altogether.

However, until that happens, you can download the iCloud Passwords Chrome extension from here and view the support page for it over here.
