Asus Sells out of Eee Box in Taiwan Debut

Typhoon Fung Wong failed to spoil Asustek Computer's (Asus) plan to launch the mini-desktop version of its Eee PC in Taiwan on Wednesday. The company sold out of the Eee Box due in part to a surprisingly low price. One thousand Eee Boxes were offered to Taiwanese consumers for NT$7,988 (US$262) through several retailers, including an e-store run by PChome Online. The e-tailer also offered the Eee Box with a 22-inch LCD monitor for NT$15,988.

"It's an amazing price, a very economical price," said Davis Tsai, general manager of Microsoft Taiwan, during the launch ceremony. Jerry Shen, CEO of Asustek, said his company expects to ship 100,000 to 200,000 Eee Boxes this year.
