Asustek may give up network IC business, says paper

Asustek Computer is currently in talks with US-based Agere to dispose of its 65.25%-owned subsidiary, Attansic Technology, which has suffered losses for two years, the Chinese-language Apple Daily cited sources in the Taiwan network-equipment industry as reporting today. Attansic, which was founded in November 1999, specializes in network chips. Asustek announced through a filing with the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TSE) that to date, the company does not have any concrete plans to sell any of its invested subsidiaries.

Asustek chairman Jonney Shih stated in an interview that the company, through its subsidiaries and affiliates, has been developing a product diversification plan covering the 3C (computer, communications, consumer electronics) market, with deals including the company's announced strategic alliance with Advantech and acquisition of WLAN specialist Askey Computer.
