Battlefield 6 now has a 'relaxed' game mode that's mostly populated by bots

If the standard multiplayer modes of Battlefield 6 have been too hectic for you, the title now has a casual game mode to slow things down.

Battlefield is not a franchise known for offering any relaxing gameplay. The series' multiplayer is centered around its massive battlegrounds with combined arms action involving at least 64 players. However, it seems Battlefield Studios wants to try something new with the most recent entry. Now, the developer has introduced a new casual mode for Battlefield 6, which replaces most players in the server with bots.

Dubbed Casual Breakthrough, this mode still offers XP gains for players that are jumping in, but a majority of the 48-player server will be made up of bots.

"We understand that sometimes you want to jump into Battlefield but without the intensity of a full PvP lobby," said the developer in a social media post, describing the new addition and where to find it. "To create a more relaxed way to play while still earning progression and completing challenges, we’re introducing Casual Breakthrough and this new mode is now live in the main menu under the Multiplayer tab."

Only the Siege of Cairo and Empire State maps will be running this mode for now, with more possible being added later, depending on player feedback. While most features from standard multiplayer sessions will still be available in Casual Breakthrough, dog tags and accolades collection, as well as career stat updates, will be disabled.

The key features of Casual Breakthrough are these:

  • Smaller player teams: 16 real players (8 per team) with 32 bot teammates/enemies (16 per team)
  • Progression: Earn Career XP, Weapon XP, Battle Pass XP, and complete Challenges
  • Balanced XP: Full XP from real player actions, reduced XP from bot actions
  • Maps: The initial maps available in this mode are Siege of Cairo and Empire State

"Let us know what you think of the new mode," the studio adds. "We’ll be monitoring your feedback to determine if further adjustments are needed in the future."

While this covers players looking for a more relaxed shooting experience, for those that want even more mayhem, don't forget that the standalone, 100-player battle royale Battlefield REDSEC just released as a free-to-play experience too.
