Fans of The Witcher franchise will probably be waiting at least a few more years for the next mainline entry to drop. However, developer CD Projekt RED has hatched a plan with indie publisher Devolver Digital to give fans something to play with in the meantime. Today, the duo announced Reigns: The Witcher, a spin-off experience set in the fantasy universe featuring the familiar characters.
Fans of development studio Nerial should recognize that name, as Reigns has been a strategy series published by Devolver since 2016. So far, it has seen five entries, including a Game of Thrones-themed edition. Now, it's The Witcher's turn.
"As Geralt of Rivia, legendary monster slayer, you will navigate the moral maze and fight for survival through the drunken ballads of the bard," says the developer, describing the new game. "Will you hunt monsters, upset the locals, or run a hot bath? Compose an inspiring epic to perhaps, one day, claim immortality."
This isn't a sprawling fantasy RPG like CD Projekt's games, as Reigns: The Witcher will have players swiping left and right on cards to make decisions in the storyline with an element of randomness. Instead of witnessing Geralt's own version of events, it's Dandelion that's orchestrating the storyline, meaning some facts may be a little altered. Check out the gameplay trailer above.
Across the branching storyline that's said to contain thousands of events, players will be meeting characters like Yennefer, Triss, Vesemir, and others, though all with some comedic changes thanks to the bard. Also, unlike Nerial's previous games in the series, there will even be a combat minigame for when Geralt needs to get his hands dirty.
"Perform polished retellings of Geralt’s greatest hits away from the tavern to solve puzzles and unlock new deeds and characters," adds the developer. "Level up the bard’s career to create ever more epic plotlines and ultimately achieve legendary status."
Reigns: The Witcher is coming out on PC (Steam and GOG), Android, and iOS on February 25, 2026, with a $5.99 price tag.
