Today tech giant Facebook announced new features which will integrate the messaging experience on two of its social media applications, Messenger and Instagram. Users of both platforms will now be able to communicate with each other without having to switch apps. The new features enable cross-platform messaging as well as audio and video calls.
Users of both apps will get to decide whether or not they want to connect Instagram with Messenger on their phones. Aside from integrating the communicative features, the Menlo Park-based social media goliath also introduced a couple of more features. Messenger and Instagram users will be able to send each other a 'hybrid of Boomerang, emojis, and selfies' called selfie stickers which can be seen below.
Another new feature which will be available to users who opt for the interconnected messaging option across Messenger and Instagram is Watch Together. Users will be able to watch video clips from IGTV with their friends on video calls. A new chat mode called Vanish Mode as also been introduced, allowing users to send disappearing messages across platforms once opened or when the conversation is closed. Users will also be able to customize the chat windows by changing the colour scheme, a feature which is already available on Messenger.
Other features include enhanced chat controls such as blocking people, deciding who can message you and reporting users. Users will also be able to decide where messages from strangers should go, such as message requests or the main chat list. The new integrated Instagram-Messenger messaging update is currently rolling out to users in select countries. Facebook has promised that the rest of the world will receive the in the near future.
